Giving up on WBTB and WILD.

I think I give up on WBTB and WILD from now on, all they do is mess up my sleep. I went to bed at 10:00pm last night thinking I would be able to get up at 3:00am, read stuff on the computer. But I ended up staying up untill 1:30am (still in bed), sweating (from overheating I think). This is happened every time I've tried to WBTB, besides only some cases where I've finally gotten sleep at 2:00am and woken up at 6:50am.

This is why I think I can probably only do DILD's and maybe DEILD's if I'm lucky. It's the fact that you have to induce the lucid dreams or tell your subconcious you need to do something.

So yeah, I'm just going to ignore everyone who says that I must WBTB, because it just wrecks my sleep to be honest. These are basically how to get DILD's naturally, correct?

• Realty Checking
• Spotting dream signs
• Keeping the dream journal
• Studying the dream journal
• Eating or drinking stuff to make you lucid easier
• Possibly Subliminal Messages on the computer

For me, this is the most comfortable way to get lucid.

What age are you?

Im guessing 17 like me.

Why give up? We both have our whole lives to keep trying =]

I'm 16. Turning 17 in May 9th. :)

It's the fact my body doesn't like WBTB or WILD, it makes me feel really uncomfortable. :(

Oh i see. Well maybe you should cut back to say...1 attempt a week or somthing.

Up to you, didn't fully see where you were coming from there.

If I do once maybe next week I'd need proper preparation, but not too much, because that would make me not sleep. My sleeping style is strange like that, following tips for sleeping makes me not sleep. And the only way my body can sleep is by going into real routine, so maybe I'll try getting back on track with that one.

It sounds to me like your either doing it wrong, or trying to hard.. You say you are unable to fall asleep untill 2 am? That should have nothing to do with WBTB and WILDing... the point is to fall asleep REGULARLY and then wake up a few hours later, so you are closer to your better REM periods.. and already in a "tired" state, so it makes it easier to fall asleep/make the transition.

You shouldn't be following tips to fall asleep at first at night.. try reading some more tutorials a bit more thoroughly. You should be going to sleep the same way you would if you were not trying to do a WILD.. The technique comes midway through the night.. not when you first lay down. (You CAN do it right away, its just much, much harder)

Wilds are only hard if you think they are, they are not complicated at all.. your over thinking it, trying to hard, defiantly why your having problems. Also if you find yourselves getting hot while trying to sleep at night, its because you have to many blankets or are focusing to hard again... any irritations will become much more vivid as the night goes on (before you try to fall asleep), so make sure you are comfortable..

If your having trouble falling asleep at the beginning of the night, that has nothing to do with wilding or WBTB not working for you, at that point it wilding/wbtb hasnt even come into play.

How do you think you enter a DILD or a DEILD? By falling alseep first... your not even doing that when attempting a WBTB or wild. Stop focusing so hard on trying to fall asleep, just relax and go to bed the same way you always do, once you wake up mid way though the night.. THATS when WBTB and WILDing comes into play.

WILDing doesnt always work for everyone, but I defiantly dont think you should give up yet.. it'd be like giving up on riding a bike because you cant walk yet.. if you cannot get to sleep how to you expect ANY lucid dream technique to work? Get back to the basics, dont force it to happen... you will keep yourself to preoccupied and never fall asleep, which is what it sounds like is happening.

If you think your body is the reason you cannot fall asleep at the beginning of the night because of a wild, your silly lol.. Your body is doing the exact same thing it does every single night, your mind is trying to concentrate to hard on inducing a wild, before you should even attempt it... People combine WBTB and WILDs for a reason :), it seems to me like your not doing either ><

I've never tried o: it always just happens tbh :x although more often if I wake up around 3-5 and fall back asleep knowing I've got a few more hours till school (vomit) you shouldn't try as hard, although that's easy to say if they come without trying, they never come without trying for you?

Ok if your not trying at night then why is it only when "attempting a wild" that you cannot go to sleep? But apparently normally you can? Because deep down you know you want to wake up for a specific reason to have a wild, nothing more, nothing less.. You just need to not think about it, theres nothing wrong with you, your just experiencing something almost everyone does... subconsciously you know what you are trying to do, just let go, forget about it. check out some relaxation techniques.. whether or not you physically think you are trying to have a wild at the beginning of the night doesnt matter, your just over thinking the part of the process that just requires you to go to bed regularly, like you have done every night for 17 years.

Like I said before, theres no difference between going to bed normally, and maybe having DILD, verses going to bed, and just having a brief awakening mid night.. the starter steps are the exact same.. You just thinking to much about it. If on the other hand you were having problems falling BACK asleep mid night once you have done your WBTB, THEN there may be a real problem with your personal wild technique, But again.. theres not. Just go to sleep :), maybe have a friend/family member suprise you one night with an alarm clock that they sneak in your room after you fall asleep on a random night... Maybe that will help, but I think your just trying to hard man lol

Hmm, ok then, next time then, I'll use the other room and use a real alarm clock, maybe that'll help me forget about it. And I don't think it will wake my dad up. :lol:

Maybe I'll try meditation sitting down instead of lying down. I'll try it again next week. I'll just not bother for a few days for my own comfort. ^_^

then just go to sleep expecting not to do WBTB and WILD, but if you happen to just wake up at 3 am then why not just get up and do some reality checks for a while? If it's the fact that in the back of your head you know you're going to try WBTB or something and it's keeping you from being able to relax, then just forget it and go with the flow. If the opportunity comes up, take advantage of it. If not... no big deal

Save it for the weekends, or maybe summer vacation, and plan on either being able to sleep in rather late or going to bed early.

That's actually why WBTB's are a problem for me :lol:

yea summer is ideal.

falling asleep with no intention of trying WBTB and falling asleep with a intention of trying WBTB shouldnt be differant. like everyone else said go to bed relaxed. o by the way my coach used to yell at me for not stepping outside my comfort zone, he said I wouldnt get anywere if I didn't. Now I know he would of been right. Now cross country isnt like lucid dreaming at all, but I think the pratice rules are the same.

Yea, try setting a reoccurent alarm, so you don't need to worry.

Do you have a normal bedtime. Or does it vary night to night? If so this may not be helping your situation.

Yeah, I have a similiar problem, because I can't ever get to HI when trying to WILD. I just sit in bed forever and get really hot. I just try WBTB with MILD, and I get a DILD. Also, Dizko, your avatar pic is from Interstella 5555? I just watched that yesterday...
