A Bone to pick with alcohol and pot.

Alright here is a question. Since alcohol and cannibas are depressents they are supposed to ruin REM sleep and your dreams for that night. But a coouple of nights ago I (may or may not have) had both and I got my 3rd Lucid. Very vivid. Please explain. Is it because I take melitonin to treat my insomnia?

I really don't believe any of that junk people say. The night leading up to my recent lucid dream I smoked two joints all to myself.

None of what anybody said has been researched. If it is, with a credible source, I would like to read it. Then I can give you my story of how I smoked everyday and still seem to remember dreams pretty good and (New to LDing) I am improving very much.

I won't forget the first post I read on this subject here. Don't remember who wrote it, but they said (paraphrasing) "I have no proof for this, but all illegal drugs will harm your ability to recall and lucid dream.”

That has got to be the most ridiculous thing ever. Legal drugs, very safe and no drawback. Illegal, they will harm your dreams!

You can believe anything you want. I can too. You have reasons for believing that and I have reasons for what I believe. Until I see credible scientific studies done on marijuana and dreams (Don’t hold your breath for studies to happen) none of our beliefs mean anything.

You were on your REM rebound.

Pot does not suppress vividness, it removes your recall.

I usually fall asleep pretty baked and I can recall my dreams on awakening probably 80-90% of the time.

All I can say is I used to smoke pretty frequently - almost daily. My dream recall wasn't bad, but I've noticed that it's increased significantly since I stopped smoking so much. I've limited myself to maybe once a week or less.

However, it could just be a state of mind because I stopped smoking so much about a week after I got into lucid dreaming. So perhaps the only reason my dream recall and lucids have improved at all is because I've invested my time and thought into it.

Maybe I'll start smoking a lot again and see what happens. Hee hee.

Well there's a very simple solution, you just have to move to the Netherlands and you'll be LDing like a pro in no time.

wtf?! hahaha I couldn't stop laughing when I read that thing about illegal drugs... good god

in my experience smoking doesn't change anything about my recall or my dreaming.

Try some angels trumpet and you can have awesome lucid dreams and be awake at the same time. It's like and upside down bell shaped flower. Maybe your neighbor has a plant?

Looks like there's a lot of weed-proponents out there.
And I'm another. Back before I was The Man's dog I smoked everyday/night and also recalled the majority of my dreams, and LD's were just as periodic.
Methinks booze could be a bit of a deterrant based on how trashed you are.
As far as weed being a depressant, I beg to differ. But with anything, its who's doing what and how it affects them individually.

im pretty sure legal drugs like ibuprofen and other related drugs cause just as much health problems as illegal drugs
by illegal drugs i mean pot not ecstacy ,coke, and other heavy shit
at least we know pots been used for thousands of years dating back to ancient egypt but pain killers are relativly new and we know little of the side effects in the long run
theres way to many factors at play to even make a coherent judgement
personally i stopped taking all synthetic drugs for 6 months now....a joint will usually calm a headache anyway

My first lucid is when I was drunk :S

I had no control in it, but it was lucid.

For me, alcohol totally screwed up my dream recall. I wouldn't recall a damned dream the next day.
Don't smoke pot anymore and don't know what it'll do to dreams. In my case I'm guessing it'd eff up my recall as I was incredibly forgetful and had no attention span whatsoever while high.
