REM isn't important for dreaming. You dream during your whole sleep, no matter what sleep state you're in and there is no question if you dream or not, the question is if you remember it.
I believe psy...I can fall asleep for 5 minutes and have a dream. Of course the chances are very much increased if I fall back asleep after awaking from a dream.
It's like when my dream runs it's course I wake up, think about it, then fall asleep and dream about something else.
No, everyone dreams.
If you have no REM period you'll simply die of sleep deprivation sooner or later.
Since REM sleep is when you have your mose vivid dreams, and REM sleep is when your brain decompiles your days worth of memories, I would say that if you couldn't achieve REM sleep you'd go insane, then die. Delta sleep heals the body, REM sleep heals the mind.
I read somewhere that there is this guy in Asia who doesn't sleep at all. He just has hallucinations every day for a few minutes or something like that.
