      Places in Dreams

I am posting here because I would like a variety of opinions on this subject, if possible.

I have been looking through my dream journal, and I find it interesting that I have very few dreams outdoors. Almost always, my dreams are in "rooms", and they are rarely in rooms I recognise.

The thing is, I ususally know where I am. I'm at my friends place, or at a concert, or at my childhood home, for example. But it doesn't look like the real place at all.

What would be the reason for that do you think? Do other dreamers have this experience? just wondering ...Thanks to any repliers.

Maybe it's much easier for your mind to create a room with barriers, as opposed to a large, outdoor landscape with trees, mountains, sky, etc. If you want to dream about the outdoors more, maybe look at some landscape pictures before you go to sleep? Or if you're already proficient at LD'ing then the answer would be imagine an outdoor landscape, and boom, you're there.

perhaps you spend most of your time indoors. I know when I'm inside a lot I dream about being inside.

I too have been in places that didn't resemble places in waking life, but in the dream I "knew" where I was. I don't know why I do this.

Accepting familiar indoor environments in dreams despite prominent differences from reality used to be very common for me. I don't know why it happened and I don't know why it stopped.

I experience that all the time. I always thought everyone does, but now that I think about it I guess I wouldn't really know. Anyway, knowing where you are when the scene doesn't look at all like it (like knowing you're in your room when it doesn't even look like your room) is just what your subconcious does for the sake of the plot of the dream. At least that's how I think of it. I dont really know why it happens though.

There was an infamous (now banned) member whose name was Beautiful Dreamer; hence seis's reaction

      thanks over and over

Right. I appreciate the input into my navelgazing.

And thanks so much Ninja for re-locating me. But where am I? I am directionally challenged, and having trouble choosing forums, or even finding them! I am appreciative to anyone who can send me in the right direction. I guess I can plead newbie-ism, but I'll probably always get mixed up! I get lost at the local mall, and need my GPS to get to work!

Do you think the subconscious may dress up the environment in a dream (yet while the dreamer "knows" where she is) in a way of disguising or camoflaging what is real?

Aha...so I have chosen an infamous moniker! Seismosaur...don't hate me because I am "Beautiful"...

that's interesting about always being in rooms/indoors. my dreams are pretty balanced when it comes to location, indoors and outdoors, but even when i'm outside in an expansive location there's always this strange "feeling" that i'm in a small, enclosed space, like the environment is contained in a room.

I am always at my childhood home when at a home.

and I mainly go futuristic places.. or more natural surroundings.

Mainly outdoors. Can't recall many indoor.

      BD,

If you start with the assumption that everything in a dream is meaningful then you can read your dreams much more easily and effectively. For instance; if you dream you are in a room you have never seen before but you know it is the room of a friend, then whatever happens there will relate somehow to that friend.

I would say that the subconscious dresses up our dreams to reveal what is real - it's up to us to work out the symbolic language of our own subconscious.

I think I experienced something like this the other night. I was in a room that initially seemed unfamiliar. However on waking I realised that it was exactly the same as my bedroom.

I have many vast and expansive outdoor locales. I dream of Temagami, a place in Northern Ontario a lot and it's huge, but never the same as in real life...little things are askew.

I have seen so many amazing places..

one of my favorites was a world which was like Ratchet and Clank if oyu have played the game

big futuristic buildings and bridges I just flew around and some dude was playin elvis outside a flower shop..

I went over and opened a suitcase and some dead dude was in it

I started bringing him back to life.. I was chanting and his head shrunk until it was tiny then it turned into an ant.. this ant ran around and I kept chanting at his head... then all these other ants came and all joined in on a big dance and then formed his head.. when it was complete the dude breathed in and looked at me

      was crazy

that was an amazing dream world. :]

Though I really get frustrated knowing no matter what I can never put down in words the things I have seen. What I would give to just share.
I hate not being able to show people the amazing things I have seen. I just get worked up and end up giving up.. knowing only I will fully understand and appreciate.

      nevermind :[
