Conducting a Lucidity Survey

I'm conducting a survey related to lucidity. For the sake of an unbiased survey, that's all the information you'll get now.

I'd also want people taking this test to have a basis of lucid dreams, and at least a few recent ones of their own. By recent I mean anything in the last year, but not one you had when you were 7.





This is a simple survey - just post a reply to this thread answering the following questions. Also, feel free to add any comments you may feel like.

Male, 15

I am around 5. My right hand is used for all lifting if I do not need to use my left. In swimming if I swim with one arm I can only do it at a decent speed with my right. I obviously write with my right hand also.

Are you a natural Lucid Dreamer or a learnt one?

This is tough to answer. I have had numerous (above fifteen) lucid dreams throughout my life and did control them by flying. When I started wanting to lucid dream I found I needed little effort to DILD two times a week minimum. I suppose that makes me "learnt" though I am better at getting lucid than most.

From what age have you been lucid dreaming?

I think I had some at young ages, such as six. At least I remember some from that age.The lowest absolutely verified age is ten (as in I know I was ten).

Can you have lucid dreams at will? With which technique (or is it spontaneous)?

I can WILD, so technically I can lucid dream at will if I really want to, though I'm too lazy to do it. My DILDs are spontaneous, though I have more on Friday and Saturday nights when I get to sleep in.

It told me I scored a 62 or auditory. I thought I was visual, but the description was actually realistic. I mean I talk to myself a lot in my head, so I even imagine speaking...

Which is your lucidity frequency? Is it spontaneous, or do you have to work on it? What do you do to keep/increase that frequency?

My lucids are spontaneous. I do not have to work for them to happen, but to increase the frequency I usually autosuggest or perform more reality checks.

Do you consider yourself creative? To what degree?

I wouldn't say I'm creative artistically, but I have some degree of creativity since I'm decent at making Rube Goldberg Machines. I also am good at visualizing things, and the way people would react to situations.

Do you consider yourself critical-thinking (rather than feeling-guided)? To what degree?

Oh yes. I think about everything I see. I have so much thoughts always going on about the world around me if that's what you mean...

Can a dream you had influence you, even if you don't actually remember it? How deep can dreams influence your mood?

Well, I've found that since I started lucid dreaming I've been remembering the emotions of a past time. I don't know if this is tied in. I don't know if dreams influence my mood if I don't remember it, because obviously I wouldn't know what mood I'm "supposed" to have. If I do remember the dream and have a happy one, I don't feel so bad getting up. Sad or angry dreams don't do much to me.

A combination of both. When I did have a crush I had both dreams where she liked me and dreams when she hated me.

Speaking in lucid dreams is just like real life. Writing and reading is also easy. The only difference is that the words might change. So rereading may be harder. I cannot usually remember exact words I said though.

I haven't tried to draw much, but when I tried to draw a cube I found it somewhat difficult. The first cube was flat, and I haven't been able to recreate it in real life. My actual dream sight also varies. More often than not it is slightly blurred and colors are saturated and distinct. When the dream starts fading the world tends to have a light blue haze about it.

How good is your dream control? Do you find it hard to control your dreamscape in a lucid dream? Can you do things by will?

My dream control is average. If anything I'm an excellent flier, but who isn't? The dreamscape is harder for me, but I'm starting to get it. Last time I was able to "spawn" a bungee cord under the overhang of a roof where I expected it to be (passive control). Everything I do is willed.

Do you tend to dream of something that really happened to you, or something fictitious (including games, films, books and etc)?

I dream of fictional things, but usually the story isn't like being IN a book, game, etc. I do play video games quite often though.

I am a 4.5. I write with my right hand, but I play hockey and baseball (batting) with my left side. I throw with my right hand.

I am a learnt one, for sure. I only had a few before I worked at it.

Since I first had one, at around age 8 or 10.

It is usually spontaneous in the dream, but I train using reality checks (DILD.)

I have 2-8 LD's every month. If I want to have more, I work at it. If I'm too lazy, I have less.

I think I'm pretty creative. I am a good writer, but I'm not so good at comedy or drawing.

No, I'm not really a critical thinker. It takes me a while to figure out problems, and I am terrible at word problems, or thinking outside the box.

The day after I have had a lucid dream, I feel refreshed and happy. The day after I have had a vivid, good non-lucid dream, I feel a deeper sense of happiness.

My vivid non-lucid ones do consist of me kissing my crush, or something similar. That's why I feel so good, as though it actually happened (although I feel disappointed upon waking.) My other dreams are either lucid or completely random, not nightmares or fears at all. Just hopes, lucidity and randomness.

When I focus on myself speaking, it sounds distorted, but when I am just going with the flow, it sounds normal. I can speak just fine. I have never tried to read or write in dreams. Usually the exact words escape me, but not if I write it in my dream journal quick enough.

I have never tried to draw in a dream. I have also never tried to increase the vividness of my lucid dreams, because I find no need to. They are perfectly vivid enough as it is. All colours look normal, and I see a normal view, so it looks a lot like real life.

Frankly speaking, my dream control is absolute crap. I can't control a damn thing, and I have even tried moving bottles and such by telekinesis, and failed. I can only control my actions, and nothing else. Not that I find this bad at all. At least my lucid dreams last for a long time, and I don't wake instantly, like some people.

Well, as I said, my dreams are very random and have nothing to do with what I'm thinking, but they all occur in real life, and real life events happen to me, not something out of a book of video game.

I would say 3. I write, eat, brush my teeth and draw with my left hand. I bowl, play guitar, use a mouse, use scissors and play most sports with my right

I've had a few when I was really young, but I just started lucid dreaming more or less regularly about six months ago.

It's usually pretty spontaneous, but I find I have them more often when I think about them often throughout the day. The technique I use most often is DILD.

You live in a world of sound. Music is something you can't do without and you are constantly humming to yourself or tapping a rythm on something. When listening to someone talk it is hard to stay focused on people with monotone voices while someone with a particularly squeaky or grating voice can drive you crazy. You don't talk much but when you do your voice is clear and sure. Why waste good words when you can save them up and use them when really needed?

I work on it, but it also comes in spontaneous bouts. To keep a steady stream of lucid dreaming, I try to think about it a lot, especially during the day.

Well, I'm a full-time graphic designer and I got to school full-time with a major in Digital Art an Design. I have to be creative pretty much all day, every day.

On a scale of 1 to 10, I'd give myself an 8. I'm very critical most of the time, but as a female, I tend to get emotional every now and again.

I often have dreams that I don't remember, but I know I dreamed of something. The feeling is kind of hard to explain, but it's like when I first wake up, I still "feel dreamy," if that makes any sense. It usually wears off once I'm more thoroughly awake though. Only lucid dreams have the ability to change my mood throughout the day - always for the better. :)

My dreams are most definitely hopeful.

That's usually contingent on a number of factors. I have no trouble speaking in dreams. I'm not sure about reading or writing because I haven't tried very much. I often remembers specific words and conversations I have in dreams, especially if I write them down as soon as I wake up.

Not sure about the drawing - I haven't really tried. I can increase the vividness, but it's usually pretty spontaneous. I always see distinct colors when I'm dreaming. My dreams are typically well-defined.

I'm still working on my dream control. I can usually decide what I want to do, but I haven't delved into changing scenery or situations very well.

I have a pretty good mix of both during most of my dreams. When I read through a dream I've written, I can pick out various things that have happened to me lately in real life as well as things I've seen on TV, movies, etc.

4. My right hand is far better, faster and stronger. I write, throw, etc all with my right hand. I'm also a juggler and my right hand always picks up tricks faster than my left. Wehn it comes to eating however, It doesnt matter which hand my knife and fork is in, it feels comfortable either way.

Lucid dreamed as a child, and have had many scary SP encounters and natural WILD's since i was about 13. These episodes are no longer scary and i try to WILD all the time now. If i had to name it, i'd say i was a learnt lucid dreamer.

I've had lucid nightmares as a child for as long as i can remember. Around the age of 8 i started controlling my dreams - sometimes lucid, sometimes not. I only really became interested in it since joining the forum.

Not always spontaneous. I do reality checks all the time and wake up at 5am alot to WILD. However each saturday morning when i get to lie in, i WILD spontaneously quite often.

2 a week? More if i really focus on it. Its not spontaneous. I keep a dream journal and do reality checks a lot to keep/increase the frequency.

Not really. I'm pretty good at editing videos and adding music, but i don't do that often. I juggle if that counts, thinking up new tricks and such. I used to make up stories as a kid and i was told they were good. Maybe i should start that again..

Happy dreams make me happy for a few days. Sad dreams and love dreams can really hurt, forever - everytime i remember and think about them.

Lol. Em...My dreams are mostly weird. When they make sense they are mostly about either normal boring day-to-day things, or something way out of the ordinary happening - like someone from a movie coming to my house.

Sometimes i speak. Sometimes it's just a sort of telepathy thing where i go by feeling. Reading and righting is perfect in dreams. I remeber one dream, where after i woke up i was able to write a whole instruction plan thing that my DC dad gave me in the dream. It had small pictures, times, scentences etc.

Sometimes blurred, sometimes perfect, other times better than perfect. Some colours look more than vivid. They look alive and deep. My dreams are always coloured and well defined.
