Mirrors freak me out!
I am scared to look at mirrors in my dreams, because i am afraid of what might happen if i go into one, or what i might see if i look at one. It makes me think of that Bloody Mary thing, ever since i heard that story i have been afraid of mirrors.
Do any of you have phobias in your dreams? and how did you overcome them?
and what has happened to you when you entered a mirror
i once jumped into a tv and saw a bunch of stormtroopers that woke me up

bloody mary? i haven't heard of that since like 3rd grade! lol :chuckle:
yeah my friend and I decided to try it one day, because everyone claimed that it really worked.
hey, i was like, 8 years old
but i guess there's just something creepy about mirrors, seeing as though they keep showing up in horror movies when something scary is going to happen

Hercuflea,
I wont say I have a lot of dream phobias but I can say I fear many things when in the dream state.
In dreams, we are led by either the sub-conscious mind, or a weakened form of sub-conscious and conscious mind mixed. The sub-conscious mind is the meanest, nicest, scariest, happiest, most creative thing in the world. Most likely when we are in a regular dream state, it is our sub-conscious that controls everything that happens. When we are Lucid, the sub-conscious is mixed somewhat with the conscious mind.
With that being said, here is my theory on handling bad things that happen in a normal dream and in a Lucid Dream:
If you are in a normal dream and you go into a scenario that usually scares you (i.e. your scenario would be walking or looking into a mirror) then the sub-conscious will rapidly and randomly do what it sees fit. Most likely in your case, bring up some sense of fear because thats where your brain goes naturally when you think of mirrors.
However, if you are in a Lucid Dream and you see a mirror it will be different. In this instance you are in full control. You can do whatever you see fit once going onto the other side of the mirror.
What I would do if I were you is face your demon. Call out bloody mary as many times as you would like. Make your dream room dim lit and scary and be sure you are alone. When the demon faces you....talk to it. Ask it not to bother you anymore. Kick its ass if you have to (its what I had to do to my dream demon.....he was so stubborn :)).
In dreams we sometimes have no control at all but never forget that in a Lucid Dream the world is yours. You have full control and you CANNOT be harmed.

Remember that show, Are You Afraid Of The Dark?
I remember one episode where there was a mirror land inside this one dudes mirror he had up in his attic. Mirror people were trying to cross over and replace the other guy when he walked through it, it was trippy.
-
Yeah, actually, once in a non-lucid dream, I looked into a mirror and felt an intense fear that something bad would happen, and I woke up. Also, in a lucid dream, I felt that same vivid fear when I looked into a mirror. Kind of weird, seeing as nothing bad ever did happen to me.
-
not the same dude!
Whenever I look into a mirror in LD I never see my real face, its always whatever character I am in the dream narrative plot line. Pretty trippy sometimes! I guess I never tried walking through one.... do you use it just to change the dream scene, or to try exploring alternate realities (in the dream)?

my idea
I think we become afraid when we see mirrors in dreams because it realizes that the image in the mirror isn't right, its inverted

Well, the thing i've found is that if you expect something to happen in a dream, it will. I dont have 'nightmares' or really any fears in dreams anymore, but I used to.. Its really all about your frame of mind.
That is to say, if you see a mirror and go "Oh shit when I look in that mirror something bad will happen", it usually will. The first thing in your head after that is usually an example of what it could be. (This is when it gets scary because whatever your afraid of will most likely be the first thing). I mean this is kind of a weird example, but maybe you dont like camels.. well that will be the first thing in your "head" because quite frankly thats the one thing you dont want it to be. For whatever reason usually as soon as you look at the mirror a camel will be jumping out or w/e. :)
So.. best thing you can do is just take a different approach to it. I would say one of the best things you can do is... when you pass a mirror in real life take a glance, it should become kind of natural, and it shouldn't make you feel uncomfortable. In time this should relay over to your dreams and hopefully make you realize that nothing bad will happen. I realize its easy for me to say something isnt scary because I dont share the same fear as you do, but Im telling you honestly... Mirrors are not going to hurt you. :) Take a step back and look at the big picture.
No bloody mary bullshit is going to happen in real life from looking at a mirror, and eventually your subconscious should just ignore or dismiss the old "fear" you had. For me being lucid took over like 90% of the fear, because you know its not real.. but the odd time I get spooked, really situational. Honestly because of how rare they are for me nightmares and the like are kind of a nice change.. Unexpected results are a good time in dreams :).. mirrors are fun imo.

Oh man, that 'bloody mary' thing is bringin me back to elementary school....*L*
I have these dreams fairly often where I'm looking in the mirror shaving or doing something with my hair. WHat's funny is I usually have a shaved head or very short hair, so in the dream, it's like this big deal to be styling my hair. It doesn't often lead to lucidity. Sometimes it does though - I recall a lucid dream where my glasses looked all crooked and I looked kind of retarded and wah-lah, Ir ealiezd this must be dream, and a fun lucid thus began...
I wish I looked into mirrors more in dreams. I don't think I've ever walked through one. Sounds fantastic.

I wouldn't say I have any real phobias in my dreams, besides being chased. In fact, I find it somehow scarier when I can actually see what's pursuing me, rather than just some unknown, unseen force. In the latter case, all I get is a generalized sense of anxiety. But when I can see what's after me - examples that come to mind include zombies and a wampa ice beast from Star Wars - I'm like...damn. [In fact, in one of those dreams where I was being chased by zombies, I heard horror music playing as I was trying to make it to my getaway car.]
Another thing that kind of freaks me out upon waking is when the dream abruptly ends with a loud sound or something. In the ice beast example, the beast was gaining on me (barely a few feet away), and it sorta roared or something - that roar kind of echoed right as the dream faded, with me waking up abruptly and thoroughly freaked out.
