Scared to WILD...

I've recently ended my dryspell in LD'ing, and by recently, i mean last night :P

Having that LD made me realize just how fun this really is, i even flew, you've probably all had one before and after all it isnt really the point of this post...

The real point of this post is with my next undertaking...WILD... Its a tremendously exiting prospect, as im sure you are all aware, being able to jump almost directly from waking to lucidity makes it well worth the effort... So for me, that isnt even the problem, the real problem for me is the fear of both SP, and the effects (especially the noises) that are generated.

Right now your probably asking, "well yea me too, Why is it any worse for you? "

My answer, I have an extremely overactive (and violent) imagination, I spend just about half of my life playing video games that involve explosions, bullets, and death, which i suppose is to fault. I've never actually attempted wild before and i'm very afraid that for me, it wont be "tearing metal sounds" or "nothing at all" ,

Im extremely scared of what my imagination is capable of producing...take the worst thing you can possibly imagine...multiply it by 3, then you'll probably have one of my nightmares....maybe im making a bigger deal out of this than its meant to be, but you can tell im scared, and that im sure ill just panic as soon as i hear something, and either pass out or just wake up screaming...i dont know what you could offer me that could help....but im holding out that somewhere on these forums there someone who could say something to me to get me a little more relaxed about this...

Well the humming noise is pretty standard. I think everyone hears the humming, which isn't scary really. It's awfully abrupt and sudden, and your ears feel plugged like you're underwater (for me anyways), but it's not really scary. I heard a woman screaming once and the screeching/tear metal is pretty freaky too, but you get used to it quickly. The initial experience with SP is frightening because it may be more intense than expected (maybe not for you because you're already expecting something intense). But after you've gone through with it, it's not nearly as bad the second time. Remember that absolutely nothing can harm you. You're perfectly fine and it's all in your head and it will pass soon. And remember that you're doing it for the ultimate LD, so it's worth it and you'll be rewarded for going through with SP! :)

Also, I have a pretty active imagination too, and I think of a lot of morbid and violent things. I'm surprised that my SP isn't incredibly frightening. I'm sure you'll be just fine.

I once heard a baby crying during my period of being in SP. It felt as if it was real and apparently I felt its presence in my room. It was very intense but as long as I knew that nothing could hurt me, I kept fear away and had Wilded successfully. Don't let fear ruin your chances of Wilding because that would be very dissapoiting.

alright, thanks, ill give it a shot tonight i think...although i think i would wet myself if i heard a scream :P . as long as i can manage to force myself to remember that nothing can hurt me (which it probably will feel like it can)

The scream was actually pretty faint and only in my left ear. It was interesting but a little freaky nonetheless. It sounded so real but I just ignored it.

I'm like you a bit.
I'm still scared of LDing and WILDing most of the time. However, once the opportunity arose, I just jumped in and braced for the scary, wild experience. It was strange and a bit frightening at first (I even saw the old hag I was expecting), but then I saw 10 orange kittens so it was all good in the end.

If you decide to do it, don't worry about your imagination and possible bad scenarios. Focus on having fun.

Everytime i try to reassure myself that the vibrations/noises are harmless they stop. It's so frustrating because i can never get past that stage!

You hear a humming noise? What? I don't think I've experienced that.
As for screamin, loud cracks, voices and the like is something I often get.

Well ... for me it's been radio noise, voices, deafening tearing sounds(sometimes quite painful), symphonies I had never heard before and things like that.

Some of these things might have been scary at some point but if you are conscious that they're only in your mind, thei're even interesting.

I've sometimes been more interested in these than the LD itself. There was a time when I wanted to make money out of transcribing the symphonies I heard in this proces:P. It didn't work, the more I tried to hear the symphonies the less I heard them. So now I just enjoy them as some kind of pre Lucid Dream soundtrack :D

i just laughed at the idea of a "lucid soundtrack" im going to try next weekend since i havent slept for about 24 straight hours right now, and WHEN i lucid (every bit of self-convincing helps :P) ill probably try to induce my very own soundtrack....and if i ever hear screaming or tearing ill probably just deal with the scaredness and wake up with wet pants :P

When I had my first LD a couple nights ago, I WILDed. For me, it was like a falling sensation, and my mind was really fuzzy, and I felt very heavy. I heard a few screechy sort of sounds and that was about it for me.

I was scared to WILD aswell. What i do is change the fear into aggression. The same thing i do if I'm scared in a nightmare or in real life, for example going downstairs at night for a midnight snack. Its like I'm thinking, "Sure, you can jump out and scare me but the real scary thing is what I'm gonna do to you with this fist". =P

Also, once i learnt about WILDing, even though i was scared, i just had to do it, because I was more scared of the unknown. Plus I had always woken up during sleep paralysis and i was really interested in leanring about it and mastering it so i could use it to my advantage rather than be scared of it. Now when i heard a scary noise during SP, i enter a lucid dream, and run it and show it who's boss. ^^

Hey I was wondering...
How do you guys get from SP to LDing? I have no problem reaching the state of SP , but I always wake up from there.
Any suggestions?

start visualising things. I recently was in SP and started visialising myself driving in a race. After a while the car race became a bike race and some dream characters were laughing at my rubbish bike. I was about to get upset and then it clicked with me that i was dreaming.

Also try thinking about what it would feel like to get up or fall out of bed.

Thirdly, if you are 100% sure that you are in a hardcore SP state, then just get up. I find that during SP i can just get out of bed and im dreaming.

I haven't tried visualizing things...maybe I should do that.

But I have tried getting up during SP, which I'm sure most people have tried to do once entering this state. I've only succeeded a couple of times...but during the times I have gotten up to walk around, I still feel this "presence" bearing down on me. I feel like someone is watching my every move and is waiting to attack. During the times I've successfully walked out of bed, I have actually spotted a beastly figure in my kitchen, sitting on my chair in the computer room with the lamp turned on, and in the bathroom. Kinda freaks me out to be honest. :P

I have seen the hag too, but only when I'm totally immobilized in my bed.

Exactly what happened to me when I WILD'ed! I wasn't visualizing or anything, just opened my eyes, and it was very bright and hazy, felt like morning.. and when I tried to get up, I just couldn't, and got halfway up and fell down and woke up. I felt something there, too, though.

I'm always worried that my imagination will conjure something really frightening...

and i'l have a heart attack.

Well, the most cliché thing I can think of is: know how the mind works.. Have the right mindset: if you think that all those creepy things are gonna show up during HI they probably will. Just believe they will not show up or just repeat when you are in SP: "I will have a smooth ride. I won't see corpses, hear screams and get chased by canabalistic butchers when I enter or are about to enter my dream!" It's a little long, but you get the idea.:)

I have that too! I love SP and it's just freaking cool! I don't have that 'wild' WILD's though! To be honest, just one worked and that was a long time ago.. I am now, once again, trying to WILD every night, but I don't get past SP till now, which I (as previously mentioned) don't mind that much, even though it's not quite 'the ultimate goal'.

I did had my eyes in fifth gear, while attempting to WILD, once. I woke up, because I thought my eyes were about to open, which they eventually did so to speak.:roll: I did had that really great feeling afterwards, because it was so cool!!:boogie:

And you know that there's a raygun in your pocket (or whatever your imagination can fancy) that can blast anything out there away, or an escape hatch around the corner. -- Btw, sometimes the weapons can morph or not fire, but never fear, you're packin' like Inspector Gadget!

To me its a simple strategy of acknowledging everything, and letting it go. Another way to say it is accept, then forgive. I've seen shadow people staring at me with loud screaming and a hearts beating and all sorts of weird stuff. I don't try to ignore it, I just don't let my head get wrapped around it. I coexist.

For me it's just like a reverse cymbal type sound. Like noise that creeps up very quickly, sometimes with a flash of white. I suppose this is that tearing metal sound people describe. My body sometimes gets really hot and tingly. My eyes dart around under my eyelids. I've yet to hear any sort of sound like screaming or crying.

Last night I used the advice of pretending sandbags were pulling me through the mattress when I got to the stage of feeling really light. This worked in that I felt weightless yet was heavy and pulled through the mattress.

Sometimes I also experience my body in strange proportions (Huge head with tiny mouth etc.)

Just try it.
