REM - detectors ?

does anybody know what that REM detector is in stephen laberges dreammask novadreamer? is that a infrared detector?

Hi! I am pretty sure it is infared and consists of an IR-LED and an IR-Phototransistor.

It then watches for fluctuations in the current of the transistor to detect eye movement.

thanks for the info. i would like to build my own dreammask. do you know of anyone who has made such a device that can detect the eye-movements?
i know that several people on this forum made their own devices with timers set to go off a few hours later - but what i am interested is the real thing with the REM-phases... is stephen laberge's novadreamer really the only device on the market that can do this?
