Leaving the door open to your mind=letting evil in?

I just noticed something and want to see what you guys thought or perhaps you could do it to, to prove my point or disprove it.

Last night, i had agreed for some here to hack into my dreams and he said to leave the back door open. So i thought "why dont i just visualize the door to my mind/dream be wide open?" I had no idea what the consequences were going to be.

I remembered 4-5 dreams that night, but my visitor didn't come. he forgot to visit me =D.

So anyway in ALL my dreams that i remember i was attacked or saw some evil force in my dreams

Dream #1: I was being harrased/hit/slapped by some kid from my school
Dream #2: I was being attacked by witches(i of course fought back)
Dream #3: I was being challenged and attacked by some superpowered jackass(he made me lose my lucidity damnit)
Dream #4: I spotted evil-looking aliens that scared the f*** out of me(im very scared of aliens). I was so scared/shock that i immidiately woke up in fright.
Dream #5: Aliens wanted to abduct me to study me and if i did not agree, they would kill all my family and friends(I think i was clark kent in this one)

I dunno, it's just that i never had so many nightmares/negativity in one night before like this in multiple dreams. Perhaps leaving the door to your mind open let's unwanted forces, maybe evil, into your dreams? I'd also like to note that i very rarely get any nightmares at all...

There is no frickin way in hell im going to try this again so i was thinking maybe others could experiement with this concept? Leaving the door open to your mind/dreams? See if you notice anything negative or strange?

I would be intrested in trying this I havent had nightmares in years and years so if I have some i guess that would make it significant. Did you use any other techniques apart from just visualising a door when you went to sleep?

sounds like you were thinking evil, so evil showed up. Interesting visualization. It ocud be used maybe to unduce dreams of a different sort, also. Like opening the door to your childhood and goign back to a time when you spoke portuguese? Just a thought. I may have to try this.

Secondly...if leaving the door open to your mind lets in other things like evil, then why not good as well? Why did you only have nightmares that night? If your mind was really open wouldn't both evil and good come in, and therefore wouldn't you have had a mix of good and bad dreams? Just a thought.

Well, it was probably more near dream incubation than acutally opening a door, so he incubated "evil" things into his dream. At least that's what it seems like to me.

It might have been caused by other factors.
I also had extremely unpleasant dreams that night... Exept that I was on offensive.

Maybe you could try visualizing a hallway of doors, and each door opens up to a different aspect. For example, you may have opened a door that lead to either fear, despair, or just evil. Maybe you can try visualizing opening a specific door to contentment, or kindness, or just good. I might have to experiment with that myself.

Actually. something this morning made me remember what else i dreamt, but its VERY vague. I remember my ex-girlfriend at my door asking me something and acted very meek. I also saved some dude from going down a slide, which i guess ment hurling towards your death or he was just exagerrating(and i was nicole kidman to :? ) not sure if that counts as good though.

i suppose. I mean, i DID realize that i would be letting unkown forces in, good or bad, but i didnt dwell on the idea at all. Right after i opened it, i just went back to fantasizing a story for me to watch for entertainment

that sounds interesting. I might actually tried that. I'll try it tonight i guess. opening the door to only good or something. Or maybe adding a protection spell to the door so that any evil that tries to go through the door are instantly eliminated, but the good are allowed in? i dunno, but i'll try.

I like this idea....

Well here is my take on it or something that I was taught anyway. I grew up very religious and I was taught that evil will attack when we sleep in the form of nightmares because that is when our mind is most vulnerable. As Lucid Dreamers we have learned to "close that door” or "protect" ourselves in our dreams, even if we are not having an LD. When you opened the door you were allowing evil to come in along with the good. You knew what you were doing but didn't know what was going to happen, so, you didn't know how to prepare yourself. Now that you know what will happen you will not open that specific door again. Hence... why I like Ame's idea!!!

Doors and Mirrors are powerful things. You could use the two together perhaps?
Eg. A mirror in the doorway. The image in the mirror reflects whats behind the door.
Just a thought :D

As for nightmares... I love nightmares. They're the easiest thing for lucidity - and it really gets me riled up. I learn my best abilities in situations like that.

Just a thought but..there is nothing wrong with opening up a door, just make sure you know who you let in..you know..lets say you had a open door, and you had your very own big bulky bouncer in front of your door, now you give your big bulky bouncher the assignment to kick shady figures and only let in your friends.

Now of course the bouncer thing is just silly..but what Im trying to say is open your door, but let in the light, opening up is good, imagine you would open your door to positive things/energy and ward the negative with a..bouncer =P. Dont just open your door, open it to the right things.
I mean its the same as being open minded..you are open to new ideas and thoughts, but you dont just accept ANY thought. If you would ever do it again open yourself to the "light" sort to speak, not to just anything.

This is so funny...all this talk about a hall of doors is SO like this project I did in school last fall. It is a 3d interactive game type of thing where you explore the Hall of Doors. I would put it up to let you guys play with it, but its like 50 megs so here's a couple screen shots.

The results of the test:

Method: put myself to sleep and told my subconscious (named) that the door should be left open but if anything really nasty came in and I got really upset it should be closed (and you thought the bouncer idea was silly Lucius).

Results: While I didn’t have any outright nightmares all my dreams where very negative.

Dream 1) I’m young in a swimming competition. When I was really young I couldn’t swim very well at all and I’m really scared by having to go in this competition.

Dream 2) I’m young again had to go to the dentist but i also needed to go to an exam at the same time. Nobody seems to want to help me out of my problem.

Dream 3) I’m writing my dream diary and my dad comes in and tells me its just escapism and totally pointless and stupid. This makes me really upset for some reason like its an attack on me and saying my life is worthless.

Kinda strange this because I’ve talked to my dad about LDing and he was really interested in it.

Dream 4) Im trying to get to work for my first day working as a mechanic for some reason but i keep getting later and later..

Conclusions:
I think perhaps i was conditioned by nightowls first post in to believing it would have a negative effect on me, its also worth saying i had an exam today so i might have been subconsciously stressed out about it even though i was consciously very positive about how I would do.

Saying all this I rarely have dreams as negative as these and the previous night I had happy drems, so might be best to leave the door shut from now on :-)

Lucius that's a great idea, I'll try that out when i feel like opening the door again.

Turkeh, your results are interesting. I agree though. You might've been already influenced by my results and so you were expecting negativeness...

You know i probably should've just asked for people to open the door and to post results instead of posting what happened to me..hm oh well *shrugs*

Turkey, did you use use a generic door? any old door? or did you open one of many?

Maybe instead of opening a door, we should have some sort of waiting room where something/one can enter but must wait there until we decide it can come in... Do you think that'd work? I don't know, personally.

One possibility is that the person you opened the door for did come. Maybe they have a darkside you aren't familiar with and you saw that darkside.

On a more practical level, I imagine...

You asked your unconscious for something and your unconscious mind just gave you what you asked for. The problem is that you didn't get what you were expecting.

I imagine the UFOs represent opening that door to a larger consciousness, which is what you wanted.

The negative imagry is a reflection of some aspect of yourself, a darkside you are ready to confront. Your mind has taken this specific opportunity to reveal that darkside to you.

I think you mind is trying to send you a message. It's like when your talking to someone, but they do not listen, so instead you yell at them and hope to catch there attention. Nightmares work in the same way, they use shock to try to grab your attention.

I have nightmares often. I have learned that usually negative images are our minds way of telling us we need to change something about ourselves. When I fail to be sensitive to others, my dreams become insensitive to me. Your mind is trying to show you something about yourself that you are unable to see on your own. Maybe you are treating someone in a way you wouldn't want to be treated.

It is possible that the dream is telling you that before you take that next big step into a larger conscious you may need to change some aspect of your personality which you have been neglecting. Somehow, this part of your person is holding you back, keeping you from reaching you potential.

Dreamcaster, thank you for answering me. I feel much better know with your answer. Perhaps you are right and it is telling me something or that im nelgecting something about me or another thing. I will give this more thought. Thank you. With posts like that, Im sure you'll become another valued member here.
