hey i'm a little confused.. i only stumbled across this sight linking through various wikipedia articles that interested me (bored, and nothing better to do) and i came across lucid dreaming. thats where i got confused- i'd never heard of lucidity as a term, but i recognised it as something i've always done whilst dreaming. is this abnormal?
it is known that people just do it....so you have been aware and in control of your dreams before. not knowing about the term 'lucid dreams'
yeah that has always been what i've defined dreaming as. in fact my definition of a nightmare has always been having no controll over a dream whatsoever. to the best of my knowledge, all my dreams are lucid, although if i'm especially tired for whatever reason i'll deliberately relinquish controll during the dream so that i might get a good night's rest (i stay in the dream though- it's nice). controll has always come naturally to me (a tip for ending a dream quickly and abruptly- an utter certainty of denial during the dream at any time will end it, you can usually accompany this by closing your eyes and 'going to sleep' during the dream, although doing this when not in 100% controll of the dream will not pull you out- good for scary situations)
dont quite understand the last bit you wrote about ending but anyway......now you know that having a dream that you are aware of and in control is a lucid dream and not a normal dream,and most people have to learn this as a skill,so you are special lol
lol yey! but what i meant about the second part was that it is the method i use when leaving a dream i dont like. thats why i find the few nightmares i have so terrifying- they are the only times when i have little or no controll over my dreams, and cannot escape (thats why they're nightmares to me) i don'tthink i've ever had a 'normal' dream (not scary yet no controll)
So you can control all your dreams just like that? Cool you must be a natural lucid dreamer. *steals your skill*
yeah but it's not even that- i'm struggling to comprehend a dream where you actually have NO CONTROL whatsoever. is natural lucidity really that rare?
There's probably a higher percentage of naturals on a Lucid dreaming site, but yes, the large majority of people (including me) normally have NO control or conception that you're in a dream.

I know just what you mean here; in many (most?) of my non-lucid dreams there is an element of self-concious production, however slight. It's like I'm obliquely aware that I am staging the dream events as they happen, but it's a far cry from a full Lucid.

I've never quite understood what control without lucidity meant. I mean, if you don't know you're dreaming how can you control it. Unless you mean your own actions, but I don't really see it as control since you're obliviously basing your actions on events in the dream.
Yeah I agree, if you realize you're dreaming you should have control. I can't imagine that you realize your dreaming, but having no control..

Actually it never came to my mind to control a dream and I was most of the time aware of dreaming as long as I can think. When the dream sucked I refused to dream this any further or I woke up. It came by chance that I can control a dream, to be more precise, my dreaming-I figured out that it was creating these dreams and not watching dreams like watching TV.Quote:

I think if you'd ask anybody if he thinks if he's able to alter his own dreams, everybody would say "no of course". The next question of yours should be: "did you ever try?"
For me, non-lucid dream control is a bit like kayaking down a fast river; I can influence the direction I'm going but I'm at the mercy of the overall current. Or put another way - I'm swept along by the dream events but I can sort of direct where it's carrying me without being aware that I'm dreaming. Maybe control is too strong a word; non-lucid dream influence is more accurate.

what works for me to get the control is this:
I have no word for it, it is similar like going in the battle and summoning all your strenght and will, maybe you scream and feel like you are getting overloaded with energy and you could tear down walls with your bare hands, you feel superstong and powerfull.
Other things won't do for me, I need this super... mega .... GIGA POWERCHARGE!!!
