      keeping dream journal

I've started keeping a dream journal right by my bed. I've heard that when I wake up in the middle of the night after a dream I should only write down keypoints of the dream, but then I've heard that I should write out my whole dream and everything that happened. It seems like it would be better to just write keypoints so I can fall back asleep easier, and then look it over in the morning and remember the dream. What's the best way?

i think you should just go with writing down the key points. im sure if you write down the key points you will remember most of it in the morning.

oh yeah, unless you have dream recall problems, i dont really think its neccessary to wake up in the middle of the night. you can though if you want

I recommend jotting down key points as soon as you wake up from a dream, and then when you get a chance during the day, go over your notes, rememering details of the dream and enter it in it's entirety in your dream journal. Describe particular places or sensations in as much detail as you can. You'll be surprised when you go back months later and read through your journal logs at how many details you may have forgotten about since then. Patterns can be detected easier this way. Good luck.

Although, if you're doing WBTB, then you can write the entire dream since you're awake and it keeps your mind on dreams.
What's the point of waking up when dreams are so fun?

like dreamwalker said, if you do WBTB it's a great chance to fill in your journal entirely. i do this because it keeps my mind fresh on dreaming... sometimes i recognize patterns from the dreams i've had through the one night alone, and later that night see them again in a dream... easily triggering lucidity.

also, i wanted to point out that i like your username. The Beatles rock
