New here, Experienced Sleep Paralysis, need help!

Hi,

Glad to have found this forum, am a new member.

As in zen, I try to be aware at all times, so I thought I could be aware during sleep, and perhaps experience lucid dreaming. So last night, I tried to be passively aware, not really forcing myself to focus, but simply aware of everything effortlessly. Doing this, I didn't fall asleep but remained awake.

Suddenly, my eyes closed on their own, my body became numb, it's like I was withdrawing into myself, I can't really put it into words. It was a shocking experience, felt like I was entering another dimension. But I became so scared, I shook my body and returned to normalcy.:(

Can experienced people here tell me what this is, why it happened, and what I must do reg. this? Am I on the right track, is this experience evidence of that? I really wish someone could explain this, I tried reading stuff on your site, but the info. is overwhelming and my queries too specific. So I hope someone can provide some insight into this.

Ya this is Sleep Paralysis and is a way of entering a lucid dream through SP but usually its done after a couple hours of sleep so I don't beleive you would have entered a Lucid dream, although you are on track!!!


My first sleep paralysis was interesting and like you I was scared and snapped myself out of it, now I can't get it back and I'm mad at myself!!! Hopefully you can do it easily, try going to sleep for 3 or 4.5 hours and then wake up, slap yourself a bit, read a book, just get your mind working and then try getting sleep paralysis, after SP if your still mentally awake try moving and it might just happen that your in your dream or you can try to imagine a scenario etc etc.

Sleep paralysis, if I am not mistaken, happens to everyone. Most people just are not aware when it happens. Anything can happen during sleep paralysis (well, not really happen, but be percieved to be happening) just as anything can happen in our dreams. It's a bizarre and spooky feeling, but sleep paralysis can be used to enter a lucid dream if you are going back to sleep (we don't start off dreaming).

Just now, I lied down and tried to be aware, as I did last night. I tried for two hours. Something very weird happened. I didn't drift to sleep, yet I had a dream which I remember now, but wasn't aware of whilst dreaming. I know what people may think, that I must've drifted off to sleep for a while or the dream wouldn't have occurred. But I swear, I didn't drift to sleep, even though I couldn't LD when the dream was happening.

I can't explain it.:( I know it sounds weird when I say I wasn't sleeping yet the dream occurred. But that's the way I feel, there were no effects of sleeping like drowsiness, watery eyes etc., in fact, I looked very fresh like I was awake the whole time, NOT like one who's had a good sleep. I hope it's clear what I am conveying.

You could have had a small lapse in consciousness, not necessarily fell asleep, at about the point where you begin to shape dreams. In that time you may have had a dream while still remaining conscious but it could have been completely ignored by your conscious until later.
As for sleep paralysis, it can be quite fun if you know what to expect, That was my mistake :?. When it first happened for me, my heart was beating out of my chest, and I was seeing shroom-like visuals, and it felt like I couldn't (or shouldn't) move my body for some odd reason and I had to get out of it.
Just remember, whatever happens, let it happen.

I wish it was that easy haha.... It seems that after the first success its even harder because you don't really know what you did!

Haha ya its hard gettin it a second time, but I think it has less to do with what you did rather than your state of mind at the time. I don't think its possible to enter that state while you are stressed out or depressed or whatnot. As long as your mind is clear, and you're relaxed, there should be at least a good chance that you'll experience SP, if not continue into a LD.
