First off, I like to say I do not believe this is in the wrong forum because what I have to comment on is about dreaming.
Are their any Doctor Who fans out there? Is it just me, or does it seem that new Doctor Who TV series incorporate a lot of subtle dream related imagery.
For example in the last episode ("Turn Left"), the Doctor's companion Donna somehow has an alien insect attach itself to her back. I'm not going to interpret it's meaning, but long before this weeks (UK) episode aired, I too have seen such images in my dreams.
I've seen an episode ("The Unicorn and the Wasp") where this character, Donna, fends of a giant alien wasp using the focused light from a magnifying glass.
In an episode of Sarah Jane Chronicles (Doctor Who spin-off) Sarah Jane fights a group of "evil" nuns. the nuns aren't really evil, but they are under psychic control. My point is, the show seems to have a lot of these symbols. The themes are subtle but distinct because they aren't plots you usually see on TV, or Sci-fi in general.
There have been a lot of times watching Dr. Who where I thought, "That is like stuff that happens in my dreams." So, yeah, you're not alone in thinking that.
On the flip side, I've taken stuff from Dr. Who and incorporated it into my lucids.
Right now I'm traveling around the world in my own TARDIS. Unfortunately my TARDIS is too much like the one in the show, so it's always breaking or taking me someplace I wasn't planning on going to...
I'm not sure, but I think I also dreampt of a Tardis once.

That's great to hear. Do you remember any examples of metaphors/imagery that you have seen in the show, that you also have noticed in your dreams?
Many of the locations and alien species. I've had SO many dreams with humanoid-cat creatures! That one episode with people driving on an underground highway for years and years, but never geting anywhere.
Of course there are all the wild things that happen in that show (and my dreams) and the people around just act like nothing out of the ordinary is going on!
Plus I had one dream with Captain Jack Harkness and we urm... you get the idea.

I also dreamt about that. Weird huh. But not before.
Importantly though, I think I see a clearer example in the Episode 9: "Forest of the Dead". Where Donna is saved on the computer, and is stuck in this virtual world, unaware that it is a virtual world (like a non-lucid dream). Also, this world was desrcibed as a "dream" by one of the characters.
Yeah, I was actually just noticing the greater and greater amounts of sybolism in the show, andhow more of it has to do with dreams. For example 9symbolism in general, not symbolism about dreams),
Spoiler for Silence in the Library:
in Silence in the Library, how the shadows were a symbo of peoples' fear of what's in the dark eventually turning into a fear of the dark itself, and the shadows themselves becoming dangerous to compensate.
Or at least that's how i interpreted it. And that's just the most prominent recent example. IU think the revived Doctor Who really is becoming a different series from the original.
PS@Naiya: I would love a TARDIS to be in my dreams. Particularly one that goes where it should, rather than where I want it to. That way it wouldn;t get dull if I ran out of interesting places and times to go to.

I interpreted the episodes "Silence in the Library" and "Forest of the Dead" as representing how what we perceive as true reality is an illusion and the library is the true reality. It really hadn't occurred to me till now. The library represents the akashic plane and the virtual reality represents the "real" world.
Also in "Forest of the Dead" The "forest" was actually the books. The books were made of paper. The paper came from a forest of trees where the evil darkness once reside. The darkness remained in the books even after the trees were turned into paper. In a way the forest is like a garden of Eden except imagine if all the trees in Eden were corrupted; the anti-Eden. Is that what our world is like?
The books represent a form of media like the soul, designed to keep a record. In the case of the soul, keep a record of a human beings existence. The idea that the darkness exists in the books is a metaphor representing what happens when a soul becomes corrupt. When the many books come together they form the cosm of the library. Since all the books in the library are corrupt the story is a metaphor of how all of physical reality is corrupt. All the people trapped in the virtual reality are prisoners of that corrupt reality. Thus we are prisoners of a corrupt reality.
I have seen similar metaphors in my dreams. Movies like "The Ring", "One Missed Call", and Pulse illustrate a similar metaphor. The oldest version of these types of stories is the Story of Adam and Eve. How when someone ingests corrupt sensory info, that corrupt sensory info can destroy that person. By sensory info I mean light, sound, smell, touch, and in the case of Adam and Eve taste.
Has anyone else dreamt about libraries? I also think the movie "Jumper" also embodies the metaphor of the power of the library aka akashic plane. In the movie the main character first jumps to a library. This initial jump saves him from drowning.
Spoiler for spoilers:
Also, in the episode "Midnight" notice how the canyon they travel through is called "The Winter Witch Canyon". I think it pays homage to "The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe". If you remember, the entire planet is made of crystal. In the scene were the Doctor goes into cockpit of the transport vehicle, for a moment they open the metal shield and look out into the planet. They mention how the radiation from the star near the planet has poisoned all the diamonds on the planet. If anyone were to touch the diamonds they'd die instantly from radiation poisoning.
I've seen crystals in my dreams. I think the crystals represent spiritual growth. Because crystals are grown. The fact that the crystals on the planet are toxic shows what happens when spiritual development is corrupted. I think the fact that the canyon is called the winter witch represents what how witches logic can corrupt spiritual development.
You see this in "The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe" , in Tin Man the miniseries based on The Wizard of OZ, you see it in the Wizard of OZ, and you even see it in the Harry Potter movies, etc. It's the idea of how Witches try to covet other peoples souls, or more to the point their microcosms. And that's what you see in the episode "Midnight" . The unknown entity takes possession of the Doctor. The Doctor!!! As powerful as he is even he isn't impervious to such corruption. Even though witches weren't the theme of this episode, I think it's hinted at. The crystals of the soul act as an egg housing the microcosm, our own personal reality. When we allow them to become corrupted that's how evil gains the ability to possess us.
Sorry for ranting so long. Just had a moment of inspiration.
Dr. Who plots are highly compelling but bizarre and only loosely make sense if you don't think about them too hard. So yeah, just like a typical dream. Must be why I love Dr. Who so much . . .
I've also had a couple dreams about the show. They were pretty awesome.
Thanks to those of you who used the spoiler function since I record the show and haven't seen this week's episode yet.
iv'e only seen The Doctor in my dreams a few times but he and a random comanion come running by me talking frantically. Like the ending of the episode Don't Blink.Never have seen the tardis though...
