      Melatonin's connection to DMT? :o

Evidence shows that melatonin can be responsible for vivid dreaming. This may be because melatonin releases naturally produced dimethyltryptamine from the pineal gland.[/b]

That might be true...when I take melatonin it makes me feel all warm and fuzzy..ahrd to describe. Feels like my mind and body want to sleep..doesnt just knock me out. And my mind gets very active while being rested.

While on the subject of Melatonin, I was about to go and buy some, but I heard somebody mention age limits on purchasing it. Are there any, or is my memory completely jacked up and nobody ever said that

Yeah, I just went and bought a TON today with my spare cash. My parents are on a big anti-medication spree and they keep telling me to fix my sleep problems without 'drugs'. But they don't have to know about it....Thanks for the info, by the way.

You won't have to worry about that, Nebulae... Melatonin isn't allowed to be sold in Australia.

      Shame.

its sucks we used to be so lax on drugs now we are turning sctrict like america...they are happy to ban melatonin and salvia, and they call the cops every time someone buys cold and flu tablets with pseudoephedrine in it (its true!!) and their has been no heroin since 2001. but they are cool to have n overflow of the real dangerous drugs like GBH and x. i want my own country bah

Wow, that is some very interesting news to me. Thanks, Ev.

I've taken 24mg of melatonin [at once] and felt pretty warm and nice. I don't know if it was placebo either.

I do not recommend trying this. [Ab]use of drugs (like melatonin) with uncharted properties at higher doses than recommended can be harmful or fatal.

Isn't melatonin illegal in Canada as well? That's so strange.. I'm in America, and I walked right into a convenience store and bought a bottle.

Anyway, come now, it's not a drug but a supplement of something that your body naturally produces. Like B6. It's only harmful if you're an idiot and take too much.

Even if you take a lot it's safe. Well, relatively a lot anyway. 24 mg is a lot compared to the normal dose, but as mentioned before on this forum, you can take 3000mg with no side effects. You'll just be REALLY tired. However, some melatonin supplements have some other chemicals in them that might not be safe to OD on. Just be careful and don't do anything stupid and you should be okay.

3000mg is a lot, physically, to ingest.

I'd assume they had pills with less filler material and higher dosages.

      3000mg!!! Jeez that's a lot!

I personally have never gone over 9mg and that really left me feeling kind of disconnected for most of the next day!

3-6 is my usualy dosage, maybe a couple times a month or more often when I am travelling.

why do u guys even take it its naturally released in your bodies and any overdose or overuse can make your body dependent on it and weaken your natrual production....i mean if you really want it to be realeased just start correcting your sleeping schdule ..i noticed my body starting secreting melotonian from 9 oclock and upwards if i didnt take an after noon nap ..if i did take an after noon nap it starts from either 10 o clock or later depends on how long the after noon naps was.....you will notice finally when your body wants to go to sleep if u want your brain to secret a whole lot amount of melotionin then wake up from 6:30 in the morning exercise yes dance or do what ever its really refresing and helps you get really hingry and all wound up for the day..dont take an afternoon nap..and take a walk in the afternoon around 5 to 6 ''to me i start getting really sleepy around 7 coz im natrully either at the gym or working out alday which my body just yells at me bed warm dry now..after eating a big meal......u dont need a drug or a suplement which your dody already releases and eat something heavy ''not always'' but something like mashed potatos or meat again not always do it atleast once in a week or something in a specific schedule u will notice yor body secreting alot ofthe hormone even whenu dont eat at that time and specific day...

Meh, many people take it for insomnia problems. A natural supplement is way better that prescription sleeping pills.. and melatonin helps restore natural sleeping patterns, and people do not become dependent on it.

You guys are lucky to be able to buy it. It's illegal here in Canada. I went to Europe this summer and looked for some. No luck in eastern Europe and it's also illegal in Great Britain.

This topic wants me to get a hold of some even more.

      [quote]

i was doing a little salvia research, and i came across this post...

i've noticed that nice warm feeling too. i've been using melatonin on and off for several months.

for a while, i didn't think it had much of an effect at all.

but a couple of times over these past couple of weeks, i have been putting a pill in my mouth, then i start to eat a banana. so i'm chewing the pill, and the banana together. and i notice after about 20-30min while i'm sitting here at my computer checking mail, and posting on here (i get home from work about 3.30-4am, so i kinda have a jacked up sleep pattern). i feel a ring of warmth emenate from my tummy, and kinda wash over me. so i get up and go straight to bed. it's nice and dark... so i lie down, and kinda start to meditate. my body feels super relaxed w/in a couple of minutes, and i'm feeling waves of warmth wash over the upper half of my body. i feel groggy, and disconnected, i dont' want to get up, or move... but not sleepy (maybe 'cause i'm excited about what i'm feeling). i have a hard time keeping focus on meditating i'm too busy zoning out... after a while i lose it, and knock out.

i tried this w/out the banana, (empty stomach) and nothing ever happened. i have tried w/other fruit, nothing really happened either. i have more banana's now...

i guess the banana helps me absorb more melatonin... kinda like the banana helps act as a carrier. could it have something to do w/the banana being more solid that grapes, and oranges?

one thing that was pretty cool about the hg is that it was different. not like something going on behind my eyes... more like i was sitting in the back of a movie theater... the spacial aspect/preception/point of view was very different. also, the way it materialized was different also. the shapes and figures where a lot more distinct, but they are arising out of a blackness... very different from what i'm used to seeing where everything just kinda melts together, or becomes something else. very trippy. i like it. but i noticed my recall is not as good anymore, now that i'm taking melatonin again. i know i'm dreaming, 'cause i remember things happening, but it seems so distant when i wake up the next afternoon.

      this is my ba-na-na

I have heard previously that banana's contain high amounts of both potassium and tryptophan. The latter is a precursor to seratonin (another metabolic substance related to sleep and dreaming). I used to eat bananas quite religiously when taking 5-htp supplements and felt that they really encouraged the supplements to work. Could this be similar? I dunno, just thought I'd toss out the speculation to see if anyone could confirm this.

Oh and here are some linkies for the Canucks:
http://canadagazette.gc.ca/partII/2004/200...l/sor119-e.html The result of a 'melatonin' websearch on the gov't website. It mentions melatonin briefly with respect to Natural Health Products and suggests that it should be freely available or as Schedule F

Melatonin may be available for sale after jumping through some hoops (application to the gov't), see this pdf http://www.bcpharmacists.org/pdf/Melatonin_Aug_04.pdf

and...some confusing legal/biochemical Schedule stuff, seemingly to me, placing Melatonin as a Schedule 1 NHP, which may or may not be Schedule F http://www.taxtyranny.ca/images/HTML/Healt...ada/HC/HC7.html
