Question On having great dream recall...

I know some people say when you just begin to keep a dream journal, try to wake up in the middle of the night, after every dream, to remember your dreams. What I'm wondering is, when you get good at remembering dreams, do you have to keep waking up in the middle of the night to write down dreams? Or will you remember them all in the mourning?

I never wake up in the middle of the night to write down my dreams, and in the morning I remember 3 to 6 dreams. But if I don't write them down right when I wake up, I start to lose bits and pieces of them like what DCs say, but the main plot sticks with me for a while without writing it down. Other times I'll wake up and not be able to remember any dreams, then an hour or so later I will. I think it's just personal preference if you decide to wake up after each dream or not. You'd definitely have the dreams more fresh in your mind, but I never have the patience to write down every little detail anyways.
