Well no matter what you are falling asleep. Alot of people have so much trouble with WILDs because they get hung up on magic HI or SP that supposedly has to set it off.
Yes it is a common symptom, yes I experience both on a near nightly basis. But I have most defiantly had a WILD without either. They are both in a way just assistants. I've had a full out WILD transition in pitch black with the lightest of tingling.
You need to be in the right state of mind to WILD (Doing a WBTB usually helps you get there.) Being tired usually isn't the best stage to be in because its hard to remain conscious. But just remember the following.
- You are trying to fall asleep and dream - NOT lay in bed like a brick waiting for flashy lights and SP. Yes you make a conscious transition; but you still need to fall asleep. (WILD's can happen in 5 minutes if you are ready for it)
- You simply want to passively remain conscious and observant throughout this phase - Do not rush yourself and Do not let your mind wander to far.
- Dont get ahead of yourself; WILDing can take a long time. Just take baby steps for now and try to work on finding the in between stage in Wakefullness and Sleep. You need to train your mind to stay active in this phase.
- Your goal is to lucid dream not reach SP. (If you want sleep paralysis disregard this; but its not something I look for while attempting to LD; its something that happens in the background.)
