Effects of WILD on sleep stages

ok, so as most of you know, sleep has 5 stages. stages 1 and 2 are light sleep, 3 and 4 are deep sleep, and 5 is REM. the entire cycle repeats about every 90 minutes and REM is the last 20. apparently people dream in all 5 stages, but dreams are most vivid during REM. so, WILD involves just stepping directly into a dream from a waking state. let's take a look at the implications:

does this mean that WILDs will be inherently less vivid than DILDs, due to not being in REM?

or does it mean that doing a WILD causes REM to occur immediately?

does WILD just completely screw up your sleep stages, because you're dreaming when you're not supposed to be?

i know there's almost no research that's been done into this area but i'd like to see what you guys think about it.

Most people WILD after WBTB, so they WILD when they would normally be going into a REM stage. Other people WILD at the start of the evening, but are sleep deprived so they will also go directly into REM anyway. I would assume that for anyone who is not WILDing during REM, their resulting LD would be less vivid, but I doubt that there are many people who do this.
