      idea

I have heard this in a few places and I am thinking of trying myself.in addition to
any of the techniques, draw an "A" on your hand(awake). eventually you will see this in a dream and become lucid......

      is it worth trying?

I don't think so. I doubt you would take any notice in a dream. Also, the key to a good reality check is that the check demonstrates behaviour that is markedly different in the dream world and in the real world. For example, putting your finger through your hand works because you can only do it if you're dreaming.

I would say, why not give it a go? It would only be helpful, if you looked at your hand and saw a "Q" or a big wart where the "A" should be. One of my reality checks is to look at my tattoos....they're just "blobs" when I'm LD'ing...same thing might happen for your "A". I also like to try breathing with my nose pinched.

I never understood the concept of that technique. So if you see an A on your hand in RL, and in your dream you see an A on your hand...? Then what? Why would that mean anything? Unless it came out strange as text sometimes does, but if you focused on the picture of the simple letter A, it would probably just look normal in your dream.

So what is it that is supposed to happen?
I'd much rather just look at my fingers and put my finger through my palm. Then people won't ask me why I've got a scarlet letter lol

Well, it can't hurt. And who knows, there must be a reason people talk about it. I've just never heard exactly what it is about that technique that cues lucidity. Let me know!

...well the problem is...I cant control my dreams when im not lucid! so how would I know to put my finger through my hand? in my dreams usually it has nothing to do with real life.....for example one of the dreams I had last night i was in camp...I have never been to camp before and I wasnt thinking about it...i was thinking about lucidity. sigh..

Well the whole point is that you conduct reality checks over and over during the day, raising your awareness of your environment and your own behaviors and what is going on around you. It causes you to be more aware, so that in your dreams, you begin to question things and naturally become more conscious. Once this happens, you'll start wondering, "Ok, why is whatever happening? This is so weird. It's like a dream. Oh yeah, I'm supposed to do a reality check whenever something is like a dream." and then you do a reality check, and your finger goes through your palm, and you realize it's a dream!
Or, you may just suspect it's a dream, but be unsure, and having your finger go through your palm is the proof that you are indeed inside your own head.

Try checking out this post if you are confused about reality checks http://www.dreamviews.com/community/...ad.php?t=62049 They really do help you become more aware and lucid more often.

You're right...unless when you looked at your hand in waking life and used it as a reminder to do a RC. I think the problem for me would be I might just get used to seeing the letter on my hand, and it wouldn't really trigger a RC, I'd simply get used to having it there and not see it as anything odd. When I do RC's throughout the day, I really stop whatever I'm doing and ask myself, "is this a drream?" I then look around my environment for anything unusual, look at my tattoos, try to breathe with my nose plugged etc. RC's are pretty important, so I try and really question my reality when I do them. Maybe the technique works for some because text is so unstable in the dream world, and as I said earlier, it would NOT look normal and could thus trigger lucidity.

most of the time in my dreams....it is completely different then real life. for example last night I had a dream of going to jail with my gothic sister(which i dont have one) but for some reason we were looking for a motel room there...?? the point is no matter how much I do something it is just going to end up different in my mind....

Not if you work on doing RCs and remaining aware. Then your dream self will become more natural than it is right now. You, in the dream, will start realizing that going to jail and having a gothic sister you don't have is just as ridiculous as you, awake, think it is right now. You'll start being more like yourself right now while you are asleep.
