If i have a lucid dream that im practicing something would i get better in real life?
Simple answer: Yes. Complex answer: No. In REM sleep you'll get better at practice insomuch as the aspects of the skill that the the brain directly controls... If it's a physical skill, you're limited because of the paralyzation that occurs during sleep. You can't affect muscle memory because the muscles aren't moving, but the higher brain functions as well as motor coordination required for the skill would generally improve...
can you practice doing algebra and get better?
so if i have a lucid dream im flawless at doing math problems in my head, would it really work?
correct me if im wrong, as i know little of this.
I think it would be more of a situation where if in your lucid dreams you practice algebra, and review problems, your mind would be equally prepared for algebra as if you did the problems while awake. So, if in your dream, you practice to the point of doing problems flawlessly, (getting correct answers) then your algebra skills would be improved. As for just thinking you know it flawlessly, that may build a confidence, which would have its benefits, but i dont think it would in its self improve your skill.

i play violin, have been for many years, but i still for the life of me can't get over stage fright. i was wondering if performing in front of people in a lucid dream would have any effect on confidence in real life.
building on what i said before (seeing how i wasn't corrected), i would think that performing in front of people to deal with the stress may build confidence, which may build a confidence in reality. If that doesn't really happen; trick yourself! the power of suggestion is strong.
well, hopefully i'll figure out how to get lucid soon then so i can get over this staeg fright thing....finally.
Isn't the whole dreaming process about one's concious mind letting go of the control and removing all the normal sensory "noise"?Quote:

What i'm trying to say is that in dream you're probably more focused to the problem at hand than in real life (where you keep hearing
all kinds of sounds and seeing everything around you, distracting your thinking).
i dont think so cos the whole point of practising is to do something that you cant. In a lucid dream you can do anything, so that would kinda cancel practising out. But for things like stage fright, dreams are definitly good for bosting confidence.
Well Again from the Book Exploring the world of Lucid Dreaming
In it there are many personal experiences about something very similar, and to tell you the truth. the way I see it, When your on stage then you, or more specificly your mind, doesn't know what to do. therefore you get nervous and panicky right? well if you were to do this is a Lucid dream and perform successfully you would give your mind a frame of reference. and since it has already done it without having any trouble whats to stop it from doing the same thing again?
Also in the Book, A kid was having trouble with math, so he started practicing them in his dreams, that day he did better in his class than he ever did. his teacher was amazed. he then went on to become a straight A student.
Also Another kid was practicing his soccer techniques and in the week that followed he became the best player on his team.
Now, I dont know how much of all this is 100% accurate. But i'm sure they wouldn't put it in writing if it was false.
My personal view is that physical attributes such as strength. I dont think can be changed in dreams. But since almost everything else is in your head. then why not? why wouldn't you be ble to shoot a basketball better if you knew Exactly how to shoot it so that it would go in? I hope i'm not confusing anybody, but, I firmly believe that lucidity can be applied to many thing we do in reality to better ourselves. (hehe, I sound like a phycoligist or something) ne how
Just my 2 cents
^ *claps hands* nice! ^

recomended!
anyway, I play the drums and when I get good at LDing I hope to practice them in my dreams. I believe it will work :D
okay so, say that i wanna learn a new skateboard trick, and i dream that i can land a certain trick perfectly. would my subconcious mind think that i am able to accomplish this and make the nessecery arrangements so that i actually could?
perhaps....
I think that it would help you. Your mind controls your body so if you visualize doing something like a skateboard trick or a new song you learned to play. Or even if you visualize playing in front of a thousand peeps. Its like you have allready done it before. You will get better at it, this is proven. So the question is whats the difference between a lucid dream and visualizing. Well when you visualize your awake. When you lucid dream you are asleep yet your fully aware of it and doing as you please. So its very fine line there.
