If you're trying the WBTB technique would it be better to do some vigorous exercise before you go back to sleep? It would seem that this would make you exhausted and make you fall asleep faster.

I suppose it can go either way. You also risk feeling more awake and alert after the exercise since you had just slept.
No. That's not how it works. You get exhausted later in the day, but in the short term you're hyper. You would throw away any chance you had of getting back to sleep.
