A couple of times, usually with digital clocks. I'll look at one, and then look at another that has the incorrect time because of a power outage or whatever. Or sometimes the minute will change. Whenever it happens I am pretty positive it is not a dream but I do a ton of RCs, all non-digital-clock related, and prove to myself that I'm awake. It's actually fun to do this, it helps you to be serious and thorough with your critical state testing so I have a digital clock in my room that is off by a couple of hours and about 8 minutes. Just to keep me on my toes ;)
the way my clock works it kind of jumps 2 seconds ahead then falls back a second, so i looked at it just the time it was going backwards, then looked at it again and it happened again, then i did the hand RC :P
NO, I always know that im not really dreaming when im in a waking state. Some may say that defeats the purpose, I'd like to meet the person that REALLY believes they might actually be dreaming when they do a RC.
I often really believe I'm dreaming when I do an RC. My waking self is naturally skeptical (As opposed to my dream self, who just assumes that herring wear roller skates in the waking world and walking from my bedroom into a diner in Arizona is perfectly normal). I often have "reality glitches" (my term) where I notice something odd or start to zone out, the former of which tends to have a reasonable explanation (the static I'm seeing is a reflection of light from a ventian blind), and the latter of which is just me being overtired, or paranoid. But yeah, i have done reality checks in which I had to doublecheck my result, somethies because something weird is going on (messwd up clock, etc) and every oce in a great while because I forgot to check the outcome closely, or forgot which outcome means i'm dreaming.
There were a few occasions that I had that vibe. The check I used was not foolproof...I used the analog clock to counter check with my digital watch to see if they were in sync and it was a new check I created. Few days later the clock being old ran out of batteries and it stopped. But again not foolproof so I decided to countercheck and it confirmed I wasn't dreaming...:P. Another time was when I created a fictitious MSN account for RCing. This person/entity who is never online as long as I'm not dreaming. Then one day one fellow I got to know I decided to add him on MSN and decided to add him to my RC account since I was not using it anymore at the time. As it turned out he used the same nick name as the name I used for the RC person/entity..similar. That got me too...:D. I did a countercheck to confirm since it was not foolproof anymore...:P. Then there was also an incident that got me during WBTB. The bathroom light blew when I wanted to use it and I din't have my digital watch with me. I ran to my bedroom to do the RC....and no I was not dreaming..:(.

Yeah, there is a broken clock at school that goes really fast. When I was just starting lucid dreaming I looked at the clock and saw that time was speeding by. I thought I was dreaming. It was embarrassing...
Well to me, RCs were only necessary to perform whenever i had been
too stoned to believe anything was real......younger days. One time i had
one such occurrence and so i turned on the tv to make sure that i did
indeed still exist. But 'Repo Man' was on and id never seen it before and
just couldnt believe anyone would make such a stupid movie! So i still
believed nothing was real. Then i called my sister and she assured me
that i was still really here. :D
Other then that one time, ive never done reality checks while awake since
i damned well know when im awake....so no. :)
LDs - No burdens, no losing, no cares, no woes, no laws of physics,
no laws, no hunger, no thirst, no obligations (guess goes under burdens)
no limits to sheer joy!
How can anyone mistake reality for a dream?
That's assuming that someone has a lot of positive experience with lucid dreaming, of course. I know that in my non-lucids I have burdens, I lose things, I'm often worried or upset about things, the dream is very stable and physics seems 100% correct... That is even the case in some of my lucids. So for people who rely on RCs to have lucids, I'm guessing it makes sense?
Everything does always go my way in a LD, but, sometimes i have my
blocks as well. But other then that i never do experience anything at all
that i cant control. Ok say im having no mind blocks at all. Im not blind,
my flying powers are in full strength and i feel the dream is strong. Then
absolutely everything i do is what i want to happen. Mind blocks and
waking up are the only bummer things that happen to me while LDing.
Still since its not the same for everyone youre right about the rcs. In a
LD i never question if i cant do it. Never! But say i were in a very real
non-lucid dream and became suddenly aware i could be dreaming. I would
then do a RC myself. I have not yet in all these years turned a NL into
LD. Its something im trying to remember to do next time i become aware
im dreaming in a NL.
But when i get myself into a WILD as i have always done it,i know damned
well im having a LD.....so i dont do RCs then.

But at the same time i know im laying there trying to have a good LD.

Ah, see my first lucids were the DILD kind where you suddenly KNOW that you are dreaming. It wasn't until I started practicing RCs that I started to catch my NLs and turn them into Lucids, and once I could do that I realized how realistic the NLs were and that they were just as real as life. So I can fully comprehend realizing how important it is to question reality. Usually when I do RCs in RL it's just because something strange is happening. I don't necessarily think that the entire world isn't real, but I realize how important it is to prove to myself why that isn't the case if I wanna turn NLs into LDs, which means you have to seriously doubt reality every time you RC. I mean think about FAs!!
What do you mean by "I have not yet in all these years turned a NL into LD. Its something im trying to remember to do next time i become aware im dreaming in a NL. " ?? By definition if you managed to become aware that you are dreaming in a non-lucid, that makes it a lucid dream...
