LDs and DMT

Would I be right in saying that Lucid Dreaming is heavily controlled by the amount of DMT produced by the pineal gland?

Assuming such, an LD can only last about an hour at a time (during REM sleep), as after a heavy bout of REM sleep (and if you're able to to control this dream, I'm going to say you had a heavy REM-sleep) you often either sleep really lightly, or wake up all together.
Therefor, theoretically, the point in which you wake up from a lucid dream is also the point at which you exit REM sleep.

Saying this, would substances such as Chacruna, which are known for stimulating the pineal gland, increase the possibility and likely-hood of a Lucid Dream occurring during heavy REM sleep?

we actually use 100% of our brain at present. the 10% myth has been demolished years ago.

Good point. I just used that article since it mentions Dr. Callaway connecting DMT to dreaming. I'm sure hes not the only one, I just used the first reference I could find.


Meard- You would need to make an extract of chacruna, if you want to experiment with it. I am more inclined to use salvia for ld enhancement because it is legal, even though it is much less enjoyable. Smoking salvia before bed can be very helpful and yields similar results to DMT.

No.

While it has been proposed that endogenous DMT may play an important role in certain experiences such as dreaming and NDEs (near death experiences), this is based primarily on anecdotal evidence. The author that lucid4sho cited is mistaken in claiming that DMT has been concretely implicated in these processes. (The natural function of endogenous DMT is not currently known.) Additionally, the facts that she endorses the 10% brain myth and that she makes a living as a hypnotherapist and Jungian do not bode well for her credibility.

If you're looking for a good LDing supplement, I recommend using one with a better track record, such as Galantamine or Calea Z.

Salvia for dreaming seems like a bad idea unless you chewed it as a quid. I wouldn't smell the aroma of salvia without a couple of relaxed friends with me *ever.* I have seen people have psychotic breaks and throw themselves into walls with no recollection of the incident. We once left one person unattended for only 5 minutes and he had drank probably 16 or so glasses of water...When asked what he was doing he said he was "finishing this movie of myself drinking a glass of water." Salvinorin A stimulates an opiate receptor tied to schizophrenia, so I *really* don't recommend anyone with any mental issues, even the mildest of depressions, trying it at all.

From my understanding, DMT works by activating a lot of neural connections that haven't been used much since birth...it just turns on all the switches, in layman's terms.

For example, you look at a chair, and a couple of specific connections fire to tell you it's a chair...A large hallucinogenic dose of DMT will activate a huge number of connections at once, giving the illusion that the chair is everything. You won't be able to consciously perceive this though, because of the mind-shattering recursion caused by the fact that "everything is now everything"...your vision would rapidly fill with fractal patterns, which are the very visual representation of recursion, and your thoughts would snowball into each other as one thought leads to another, leads to another, etc. in a giant logical loop.

In other words, your mind is *so* active that you are trapped inside it...not a functional state at all, but a serious and grueling mental workout. A study of shamans who took it on a regular basis showed no mental deficits; in fact they showed an *increase* in IQ from tripping.

Just food for thought...no pun intended :-P

Oh and I forgot, bright light, specifically the bluer wavelengths of sunlight, makes the pineal swell with endogenous tryptamines (serotonin, melatonin, DMT), while darkness releases them. So if you want their benefits for lucid dreaming, get some outdoors time in and use those "full spectrum" lights in your house. I don't know how supplemental melatonin plays into DMT production, I feel most of the info on the internet is false.

I agree, though I've seen it suggested countless times, I've never seen any real solid studies connecting endogenous dmt and lding. I just wanted to show that its been proposed, clearly I picked a relatively lousy reference.

I may be wrong but I thought that the brain usage percent was originally based off voluntary actions & thoughts VS involuntary ones, but people mistakenly thought it meant that parts of our brains are just inactive.

actually the 10% myth is based off of some guy in the 1800's who said we only use 10% of our brain. i can't fathom why this myth is still circulating around when we know much more about our brains now, as oppose to the freakin' 1800's lol.
