STOP "TRING" TO BECOME lucid!!!

hey all. i've been hit with these words of wisdom from a great man known as Gameover.

YOu AlreADY are ASLEEp. ONe ReAliTY iSN'T morE rEAL tHaN tHe neXT.

think about it. you can move in this "reality", u can move in the Dream "reality". u can feel pain in this "reality", you can also feel pain in the dream "reality". you can feel and obtain emotions in this world, and the same in the dream world. so, how the heck do u define real anywayz!?!?!?

you CAN'T goto sleep to become lucid becuz you already ARE LUCID!!!! once you realize this truely, u will be living to the fullest. there will be no more tring to become lucid, only being lucid. stop tring and start doing!!

(and gameover, if your reading this, thnx a million for showing me this!!)

You make a lot of sense. Too bad I have a headache and can't think about it right now...:P

The part about reality not meaning anything, and being lucid while awake makes sense, but for the rest, being awake and dreaming are two different realities. The fun of becoming lucid while dreaming is because you can do things while dreaming that would be impossible or get you in jail if you were awake. 8)

I once asked a dream char if he could help me to become lucid more often and he said I am already always lucid.

Old news kinda, but its easier said then done. Monks have practised constant awareness for quite some time now and let me tell you its very hard.

Its not that both realities are the same, its just that you should be aware always, it doesn't matter where you are, you are there. Lets just say "now" is the dominant reality, and when you are dreaming "now" is the dominant reality aswell..now is always reality..as you experience now and suffer the consiquenses from what happens right now

Yes, a lucid existance. When you get to the bottom of it, it is all an illusion. Waking, sleeping, other states of conciousness.

yes. that's a good point. 2 realities makes more sense.

uhh couple of things to get off my chest before i say anything. theres no need to have a spasmic fit on your shift key when typing a sentance,and tring is spelt 'trying'

but seriously,i personally consider this view quite paranoid. sure you can go round waving possibilities and calling them true,then falling back upon the old 'well theres no evidence to disprove it' trick,but to take a real look at it and consider the probobility against this sort of thing being real,you really gotta consider how strange it is to be even thinking about it.
i mean,we eat chocolate,but dont read the back label to check what ingredients are in it,study these ingredients and double check them.
we just eat it. so why not just leave little possibilities like this alone. its fine if all your saying is 'hey,even this is possible,just shows what we dont know' or something along the lines (a symbolic meaning) of it. but to actually consider and investigate something like this is futile. all we would end up with is many different views. and no further to the truth from where we started. dont worry over little things that dont really matter. sure, even if we could find the answer to this,would it change anything?

This is on-topic, so bear with me for a sec:

The Buddha taught that our present forms and view of reality arise from 12 different causes, each arising from the previous cause and all working interconnectedly to create the apparent solidity of the world around us. The first four are seen as belonging to the distant past, the next four to the present, and the final four to the future, which is to say our ordinary perception is attached to the middle four, with roots extending in either direction.

I found this recently in a book called "Dream Cultures," about how different cultures have viewed dreaming: the fifth link in the chain, sometimes translated as "awareness," is seen by some to be dream-consciousness. It's our first awareness in the present moment, but it precedes the senses or awareness of anything external, and creates the ground for that future consciousness. When we fall asleep, we are again without senses or external awareness, though unlike, say, a bacterium, we do have memories of the senses, so we revert to the more basic awareness, but it takes the form of the remembered external world.

Whether dreaming or awake, the perceptions, the "reality," is generated from within, hence alterable from within. When awake, though, reality is held rigid by form, the senses, and all the other links of the chain of causation. It's like a wheel with twelve spokes vs. a wheel with five--the 12-spoke wheel will hold its shape more persistently, whereas the 5-spoke wheel is more easily bent and reshaped.

Perhaps, as Lucius suggested, it's possible to bend the 12-spoke wheel as well, but in addition to the belief it can be done, one would also need either tremendous skill and knowledge of the wheel, or access to tremendous energy.

This is the first time I've really thought about it from this perspective, so I'm not saying this is the hard-and-fast truth, just another take.

EDIT: Getting to know the 5-spoke wheel is probably good practice for learning about the 12-spoke wheel, as well. LDs are our training wheel :D

If you're going to compare reality to dreaming... then, no, we are not "lucid".

Most people go through a dream thinking it is reality. If they were to simply realize that it isn't, they would be able to do things beyond the limits of their imagination. You all know that; that's what this site is dedicated to.

To parallel it with real life... most people go through life thinking it is reality. If they were to simply realize that it isn't, they would be able to do things beyond the limits of their imagination. People we think of as enlightened - Jesus, Gandhi, Maharishi, etc. - are the closest thing we have to "lucid". They see things clearly, vividly - lucidly.

See what I mean?

Siddhartha Buddha was once asked what separated him from the rest of the human race. He responded "I am awake."

I'm gonna throw a view on this in. I wanna raise the possibility that reality is a dream, and we are all created by a dreamer.. or a couple dreamers.. or maybe even ourselves. If you think about it, you could have dreamed up everything, or I could have dreamed it all up, or someone else could have. And when we go into dreaming, we create our own world. There is much i do not understand, but it is all possible.

There are a few things that quite deffinately seperate our life now, anda lucid dream. Of course, these things are all based on my own experiences, and may vary from dreamer to dreamer.

In reality, we cannot do things like fly or jump out of ten story buildings or drink acid, but in our dreams we can do it all. This is a world with rules, scientific barriers holding us back from complete physical anarchy, as I like to call it. Dreams are simply images created by our minds that can be manipulated. Reality is a universe controlled by chance, or God, depending on what you believe.
Think of the Matrix.

Also, dreams are differing from our waking lives because in reality, we can learn new and unknown things, which means that we must be interacting with real people. We weren't just born with knowledge of quantum physics. If this were all a dream, then how could I have learned all that I know? I know that I am not in a dream world, that everyone on this forum truly exists.

I say, keep LDing. It is wonderful to have a chance once in a while to break the rules, and cross the "scientific barrier". It's an experience worth having.
