      Sleep paralasis??

I have been experiencing this phenomenon for 15 yrs and yet I'm puzzled by this 4 ft figured gray creature of the night. I have seen this several times, but not with in the last year or so. Instead I awake to find the room cold or even a tap on the shoulder. Once i could of sworn my bed was shaking violently. Or maybe i awoke suddenly and it startled me, I dunno. But in do respect. I'm usaualy not quite alseep when this occurs. NE 1 else have this strange problem????

This sounds like HH or hypnagogic hallucination. This is a normal physical phenomenon that happens as the body enters or leaves sleep, usually when SP (sleep paralysis) starts or ends. Usually people are pretty out of it when this happens and don't even notice it. For all kinds of info on HH you can google it. There is a lot of scientific info about it.

Weird, scary or otherwise unpleasant HH is common. I've had some pretty hairy HH experiences. Just remember that it isn't real, and that when it comes to HH, wierd is normal.

I get these quite often. I know what you mean about the sensation of physical touching - I can remember feeling cold fingers around my neck, sometimes with spooky noises/whispering too... not nice! This used to worry me but not anymore, now I'm always fascinated with the realism of the sensation (even more real than in fully lucid dreams). I also get almost electric buzzing in my head in this stage, it feels a bit like something is vibrating at a low-ish level, usually in a wave passing through my head. Nearly at the level of some kind of seizure. Or, if I'm half-awake and trying to achieve lucidity, there's sometimes a sense of my body either levitating or really sinking (annoying part of this is that I almost never actually become lucid this way - so I wake up feeling like I 'forced' it and therefore failed).

Come to think of it, sometimes I do become lucid and these the least fun but most intense lucid dreams I ever have (I don't have many, maybe once every month or two and can have dry spells of months though I have had spells of several a month, very occasionally). In these dreams I'm moving around the house, in a very realistic environment - always the house I'm actually in, moving around rooms which actually exist and often worrying about waking people or being too noisy, or thinking it's morning and trying to get myself ready for work!

Anyway, you're not alone in these spooky parts of being half-conscious while asleep!

I used to be plagued by such experiences from my teens until now, including night terrors.

One time I was in bed with a broken leg (in a cast). A grey figure walked out of my wardrobe and came towards me.
I closed my eyes until I calmed down. When I opened them again, the figure was leering right over me.
Cast or not I leapt across the room in a single bound to find the light switch.

I would see things (Creepy girls at the foot of my bed, lights flying about the room), I would hear things (whispering voices, footsteps).

I now know what they were and thankfully no longer fear them.

A few times I've also woken up feeling like my head was pulsing and going to explode.
My guess now is that I was waking up with the SP vibration head rush.

      Knowledge is power.
Big Thanks to this forum and community for helping me sort this stuff out.

very interesting. Last night i had a strange dream of being abducted but it was in an auto shop. First he was a mechanic, then turned into an alien. Funny thing is, when i awoke, I was SP. But to tired to care. So i went back to bed and tried what PPL told me about being very LUCID. I was with three naked chicks but I looked up at the sky, then relized it was a dream. I shot out into the sky {ZOOMED} to such a far away place. The stars was everywhere. I seen images I have only seen through the pictures of hubble telescope. I seen one of them moving stars. And I tried to catch it by ZOOMING. When I approached it speed off even faster. So when I actualy caught up with it, I attatched my hands into the brilliant colored UFO and from there I do not recall anythng.

Strange but true. Just before work, I cleaned my ears without piercing to deep. And filled up 3 Qtips with blood..... Very odd But at least I experienced space agian. I can dream of{checks if G\F is over shoulder} chicks ne time.

Because when it happens your defense mechanisims usually kick in while interpreting the eroneous data in your brain.

Hrmmm... now that's something interesting to do... can I have a "good" HH... I dunno... where I wake up and see happy bunnies and rays of sunshine instead of floating spiders and other creepy shadow things.

I think the closest I've come is waking up and thinking there was some bizarre power problem because everything was blue and crackling down the hallway until I regained my senses. (instead of scary shadow objects).

I had my first tactile HH yesterday. I saw a little girl move her open hand towards my cheek, I felt it, and the HH just disappeared.

When I'm very groggy after waking from sleep I can often recreate the shaking bed feeling or the spinning faster and faster in circles which in the end, puts me in a dream.

Last night I had a dream lasting only a few seconds of some figure at the end of my friends driveway but with it was the worst feeling of fear I have felt in a while!. The figure did not scare me at all really but there was an immense sence of dread coming from this character that woke me. any ideas?

      I have lots of ideas.

If you mean for your specific case, you're being a little vague about what you want.

For dream interpretation, well, you need to be cautious with the "this means that" junk because everyone has a different mental set of "symbols" based on their life experience. So as is customary, I give you the default advice of proceed with caution... trust what you know about yourself over what junk you look up on google.

If you're wondering what is going on physically in your brain, you'll need to be a bit more specific about the feelings.

eg: If it felt like a shadowy physical presence was causing the dread, that would be stimulation of the left temporoparietal junction.

Also, way to necro a thread.
