      WILDS - saliva

right, I have a slight problem. Whenever I try to WILD and am lying still in whatever position I notice that saliva slowly begins to accumulate in my mouth till there is almost an "imminent drowning" fear- if I swallow it it involves me sending signals to my body so I think it's why I can't WILD. what to do??

I'm with you brotha. Either my mouth is too dry, or I'm drooling on my face consciously, or I can't breath through my nose.

Try your best to ignore it.

      This is common.
Turn your head to the side - though you will probably drool in the night.

But you don't have to sleep on your back.
You can wild on your front or side - without the saliva problem.

You can just swallow without making a big deal out of it, too. You do it without realizing all the time... just try to let it happen and not disrupt your groove by panicking 'OH MY GOD I NEED TO SWALLOW AHHHH!" Instead just, "Oh?" *swallow, continue with WILD*

Yeah, a few people have said that. I suppose if its unavoidable it is good to get it done and forget about it.

What I'm unsure about is whether swallowing, being a conscious action, does set back SP. Numerous posters have noted the same.
On my first wild attempt I actually felt the big wave come over me, and then a terrific pressure in my head. I'm sure I was on the verge of a WILD.
But I swallowed, and I lost it.

The great thing about SP (when you do it right) is that if it gets interrupted, it only takes a few seconds to get back into it. Just swallow and lie still and you'll be feeling vibrations in no time.

yuriythebest, I'm sure that we swallow in our sleep so it shouldn't stop you from WILDing, but if you pay too much conscious attention to the act of swallowing, your body will know that you're truly not asleep.

I've read that propping your head/upper body up a little helps with the saliva buildup/swallowing.. it's certainly worth a try.

I just figured out something amazing! it's an illusion! in my case, at least. When I don't move and SP tries to set in it feels like my mouth is all filled with saliva and even starts dribbling from the sides, but if I then break it and check my mouth I notice that it's not wet at all. Happens every time I try to WILD

That may be true with me too, because whenever I do swallow, I can, but it doesn't feel like anything's going down my throat... Still, I have to do it. Oh, well...

seems it's imaginary only sometimes. sometimes when I swallow nothings there, other times I drool on the pillow.

Yes, I also noticed that, but didn't think anything about it.

At first I read this as "WILD - Salvia". I'm sick of hearing about that stuff.

But what you should do is try to WILD on your side with a rag next to you so that you drool onto the rag.

      Trust me, it works!

Exactly. Suppressing the swallow reflex would be more of a hassle. What would the body do if the mind was absent? Right, it would simply swallow. So by preventing it, you're signalling that you're still there.

Yes, Ive had this happened to me as well. Except, Im pretty sure that I was just entering the dream, I felt the wave come over me and everything, but I couldnt resist the urge to swallow. I did, and fund myself lying back in my bed, as awake as when I first started WILDing.

I guess this could work too. Whenever, I feel I have to swallow, I just try to do it as naturally as possible (but Im usually not fooling any part of my brain).
But I think its a big help by breathing out of your nose. This seems to alleviate the saliva problem somewhat.
