right, in the few LD' I had thus far I always had this nagging feeling to hurry before the dream ends. Is this a useful feeling to have- should I hurry in dreams or should I try to slow them down, or find some medium route in between?

I'd recommend trying to find a balance between the two extremes. If you hurry too much, you may be able to get more done and have an easier time staying in the dream, but your lucidity will suffer. I find that if I hurry, I may blindly pursue a dream goal to the point where I stop being rational and can't make reasoned decisions, sometimes eliminating my lucidity altogether. On the other hand, if you move too slowly in a dream you are more likely to awaken. Even doing something as simple as sitting in a chair is enough to wake me up usually. Personally, I'd lean more towards slowing down than hurrying; I prefer the quality of the dream over how much I can "get done" while lucid.
I've hurried around in most of mine, but I don't think that is a good way of going about things as I tend to have quite short LDs. Just last night I actually spent some time paying attention to stuff in detail and it really helped prolong the LD. However, I still had that rushed feeling and ended up killing it due to my impatience in the end.
I say take it slow, When I rush, I too loose my lucidity. Slowing down helps you stay grounded and pay attention.
