Dream freaked me out and REM question

The past few nights I have been having really weird dreams, and I keep waking up at 2:35. Two nights ago, I dreamed my cat had its tail chopped off, and I woke up at 2:35 am. Last night I dreamed that a family member was yelling for help, so I woke up, and freaked out. I searched my house because I was sure I heard screaming. I noticed the time, and it was about 2:35 am when I woke up. Coincidence? Maybe. So I gathered my wits, and calmed down. I wrote my dream down in my journal, and I take my glasses off and turn off the light. But I noticed something strange....my room was enveloped in a fog. I put on my glasses and it was still there, but when my light was on it went away. When I turned it off, it was still there!

So I was wondering why I keep having freaky dreams and waking up at 2:35, and if the fog had anything to do with Sleep Paralysis.

Well it COULD be a false awakening, but if it isn't here are some of my thoughts.

You could have made some mental note to wake up at 2:30 or so at night so that is why you wake up. The nightmare/strange dream could just be the method to wake you up. I remember about a month ago I wanted to pick up my pace on my dream journal and decided I wanted to wake up in the middle of the night so I could remember more dreams. I didn't set an alarm, or even a time in my head, but my body woke up at 4:00am EVERY morning for about a week till I decided I needed to get more sleep. This is just an idea. As for the fog, it could have been your mind playing tricks on you since you just recently woke up. My sister used to see floating green images all over her room (fancy, like ships and things) which would go away when the light was turned on, but would stay as long as the light was off.

Anyway, just some opinions, I am sure somone else has a better answer 'cause I am tired.

Sounds like maybe an FA. Also, in dreams, if you conciously or semi-conciously think that something MIGHT happen, especially something you don't want to happen, it will probably happen. So if you thought something like "it would be freaky if it was 2:35," then the your FA, which is essentially another dream, might have just changed all the clocks to 2:35. Your subconscious is a dick like that.

Do you have a set sleeping schedule? For example, do you go to sleep at 10 and wake up at 6 or something like that? If so, your body's probably developed a routine where you come out of REM at a particular time. I know how that is and often find myself waking up just before my alarm goes off in the morning.

As far as the nightmares, just try to relax and let them go. When you wake up, take a moment to think about what just happened - such as when you heard someone yelling for help - and try to think about if it's something you've dreamed or not. Just try to see if it makes rational sense. There's nothing wrong with checking something out, but go about it in a rational manner if at all possible.

I wouldn't worry, though. Sometimes I've gone through phases where I have a row of less than pleasant dreams, usually when I've been stressed out or something weird is going on in my life, but they eventually go away. Letting those nightmares stress you out will only serve to decrease the amount of quality sleep you have, so try to relax and expect to have a good dream tonight.

As far as the fog, I'm not sure. It could be hypnopompic imagery left over from your last dream. Sometimes when someone wakes up, they'll continue to see an image for a short time, but it goes away eventually. It's possible, too, that you fell asleep and dreamed the fog.

Yes, I do sleep in a normal pattern. So maybe I could use that as a time to set my alarm so i could record more dreams....and I'm sure the nightmares will disappear when I get back into my normal daytime pattern.

      Thanks!

Interesting, my time of strange occurrences is 2:37. Numbers can be a very mysterious and important thing.

It's never very consistent. Unless I'm absolutely wiped it tends to be from 12:30 on up. Most of these strange occurrences tend to happen while I'm still awake though. I'm a fan of walks at night if the weather is suitable.
