There's a lot of lucid dreamers that will tell you that a dream-journal/diary is a fundamental part of increasing dream recall, and very important for furthering your frequency of having lucid dreams.
I think it can be beneficial, though reading them can be distracting to an extent - eg. whilst WBTB, and I've found personally that the more distracted my mind is, the less lucidity (I'd recommend quick exercise then meditation into dream when WBTB).
As for Yuschak's site, it hasn't been up for a while, and he's not contactable through his email (linked to his site).
I'm not sure if you're referring to a dream diary or a regular diary, I'm guessing a regular diary online by blog? Keeping a dream journal will absolutely aid in recall, which can help you identify dream signs or just become familiar with the dream environment overall. I'll also help you remember lucids if you have them.
I have not found that keeping a regular diary makes any difference whatsoever. I actually charted them once and I didn't go in depth with statistical analyses or anything but there didn't seem to be any trend at all.
** Ah wait, I found the image. Stars are lucids (one star for each lucid), numbers are how many journal entries I'd made that day.
