I'm not too sure about this type of dream..

Ok, i was wondering what you people call this type of dream??
Well, it starts when i get really tired, but cant sleep, but in the end i do sleep afterwards.
Anyways, when i know i am going into it, i can actually know i am so i can think to myself, lets dream about australia, say.. {example}, and i do. Its like i can control what type of dream i can have. Its fun :)
Can anyone help?

Its what people call day dreaming or fantasizing usualy it gets mixed into some HI and then you actulay go to sleep.

Sounds like WILD (Wake-Initiated Lucid Dream). It happens when you are able to maintain consciousness as you fall asleep and begin having HI (hypnogogic imagery). Then it turns into a full-blown dream. Is this what happens to you? If so, it's one of the more difficult techniques to do, and you should be proud. :)

that sounds kinda like a daydream mixed w/ WILD...... do you get lucid cause of it?

Hi Caroline...I understand what you're going through, it's hard when you post on something that we have all been talking about for so long and have a ton of acronyms for. Anyway...what you are experiencing is called a lucid dream. A lucid dream just basically means that you know that you are dreaming...whether or not you can control the dream is another matter. You can learn ways to manipulate your lucid dreams so that you can eventually have more control. A WILD basically happens when you, like you were saying, had trouble fallling asleep but eventually did and had a lucid dream...A WILD is a wake induced lucid dream, basically you're mind is aware of everything that is going on as it enters the dream world. I used to have unintentional WILDS, and now I've learned to have them when I want. I suggest you read through the tutorials and learn what all the acronyms mean (WILD, LD, HILD, NILD, WBTB, MILD, etc)...it's a lot of information to digest. Don't hesitate to private message me with any quesitons you are having. :wink:

I agree that it could have been a WILD (wake-induced LD). Also, a while back I commonly used a technique known as dream re-entry where you kind of continue a dream (whether you're just going to sleep or have woken up) and fall asleep with those images in your head. Re-entry has been somewhat successful, but unfortunately it takes time, something I don't always have.

Yeah, sounds like it could have been WILD then.. I seem to be able to control what happens in my dreams now, and it seems i can have these WILD whenever i want. I've been having these for a few years now, but thought there was no such thing as lucid dreaming, and it kinda freaked me out, but now i know about all the different types of dreams, i think its kinda cool.



There is 2 types of dreams i have though, maybe both lucid in some way.
Like the other night, i was dreaming, i know i was, but i was still aware what was around me in my room. I was still dreaming, but i thought i wasnt , if you know what i mean. I moved my hand up towards the ceiling, and it was kinda like see through, like a ghosts hand. Anyway, i was thinking, 'what have i done, i was only dreaming' (it felt like i wasnt sleeping), then i was like, 'maybe i am, so i kinda wasnt scared anymore.. Then i woke up, and found my hand was still under the duvet, so i must have been dreaming it all. It all felt like i was awake though, but i could tell it was a dream in some ways too. It was kinda scary.

Ghostly hand? Sounds almost like an OBE! (oh no we're killing her with acronyms ;) )

OBE = out-of-body experience

With astral projection (AP) the theory is that your consciousness mirrors itself, and you are able to move around in the real world without your physical body. Essentially, your consciousness separates from your physical self. This could explain the ghostly-looking hand, because even though your consciousness separates from your body, you'd still retain all your learned information, and so your mind would make up a replica of what you're used to (mental projection of yourself). For example, if you were born without arms (heaven forbid), your mind would recreate your astral body without arms, because that's how you've come to understand your physical body. It's the same reason we experience our dreams with physlcal 'laws' such as gravity.

Caroline: I've had the exact same experience...when I was lying in bed and at that point where you are kind of in between sleep and a lucid dream I thought I'd try to raise my arm...and I did...I saw it...very realistically...then I wanted to see if it really was raised so I made myself wake up, and just like you...it was at my side. Strange but fun. Next try, sitting up...it's a little bit harder, at least it was for me, I met with some resistance. One time though, I was able to sit up, and actually get "out of my body" and walk away...but I don't know if this was an OBE or a lucid dream, still trying to figure this stuff out. :roll: :D

To determine OBE vs. LD I'd look around for subtle clues, like a tshirt on the floor, or a car parked outside, then wake up and gauge the similarities. I dunno, just a thought :)

Yeah, so the dreams i am having where i know i am sleeping and can control what happens in my dreams are lucid dreams..
And the other type could be OBE?
Sounds pretty scary to me, could it be dangerous in any way? This type i wasnt sure i was sleeping or not, i thought i was at first , then i opened my eyes, so thought i wasnt, but i must have, because i could see the ghostly arm, but then i woke up fine.. Its really confusing to understand all that happens.

Can you do anything real in OBE'S like say move something, and when you wake up it is moved? Or would this just be called sleep walking.. ?

First off, an OBE is *not* in any way dangerous. Your original mind is still safe in your physical self, so no matter what happens during the OBE you will always return. The worst thing I can think of happening would be the OBE turning into something scary, but that's about it.

Moving things in the physical world during an OBE is not possible as far as I know. That would be pretty cool though :D

I honestly think the wild or lucid dreams are much better though, they are fun. Its great, the way i can control what happens in my dreams and what i dream about.

Has anyone ever experienced being lucid then going into obe, then back to lucid? Is that possible? :)

I was once drifting in and out of shorts dreams , and then i was in a dream where i was watching myself do things , i watched myself walk over to a table and pick something up , next thing i know is i feel like im laying down but i was floating as high as the ceiling , then felt like i was floating back down to bed .

Then i woke up wondering what the hell had just happend
It was ages before i even knew about lucid dreaming and was completly random

Ever had the dreams where you vividly feel like you're falling? Many times right as I'm drifting off, I suddenly visualize myself tripping over something and falling flat on my face, which causes me to jolt and snap myself back to waking consciousness. Sometimes it happens 2 or 3 times a night! It feels so real when it happens. Also my last (also my first) WILD experience had me begin flying, and then after getting about 40 feet in the air, start falling and get the realistic butterfly feeling in the stomach. Weird experience.

Yeah i have , i always get alot of 'feeling' in dreams .. the other night i was really high up on a dreamscape and i had the butterflyies really really intensly , more than ive ever had in waking life.
and once a dream started off with me falling into water , but i woke up before i hit it ecause i got too scared and woke myself up

but all this was quite a while before i knew about lucidity , and ive never done a WILD ( i dont think)

Weird thing happened tonight again when i went for a little nap just a few hours. I was trying to go into a lucid dream but this is what happened...

I knew i was going into it, so as usual i wanted to see if it worked, i said i wanted to dream about a few friends, have them in my dream, this usually works, but instead it didnt this time.. Instead i felt like i was moving , like vibrating on the bed, i could hear a noise, sort of like a windy noise, then i could see myself lying in the bed.. I was thinking maybe this was an OBE?? Could i be right..? but then, still in the dream , i was still looking with eyes open, i felt as if someone was touching the right side of my face, but i couldnt move to see what it was, it was then touching both sides, then i woke up and nothing was there?? Hallucinations maybe??

Why do i get all these dream types? Or are they all really connected?

I wouldn't know what to make of the feeling of something touching your face. As a best guess I'd say it was just the integration of a dream feeling, something your mind just decided to incorporate into the scenario - dreams can be strikingly real... But to determine if it was or was not an OBE or AP, I'd recommend looking around to determine how realistic the scenario is. If applicable, try looking outside for scenes which change such as where cars are parked. Or try moving around through the house and see if anyone is around, and if so, where they are. Then compare it to when you wake up.

I know, i have all different types of dreams and i never know why or which type is which lol..
Anyway, in the very last type of dream i wrote, i couldnt move anywhere, i even tried the thing where lucidnina said about sitting up, i couldnt move at all... This is weird because the type of dream before hand , with the ghostly hand, i could. When i have that type again, i'll try and do what you say, and look for parked cars etc. And if they are the same scenario, then what exactly does this mean? It was an OBE?

Not being able to move is an indication of sleep paralysis. You were probably conscious of your physical self, but your brain had you paralyzed so you wouldn't act out your dreams with your physical body. As for looking for parked cars and whatnot, I don't want to definitively say that it would distinguish between an OBE/AP versus a LD, but if you end up with a number of conclusive results, it would probably give you some personal confidence in the difference. I know it would boost my confidence if I found out I was "guessing" correctly!

I too have had a number of strange experiences.

I woke up from a dream and I was in my bed. I thought it may have been a FA, so I poked finger through my hand and it felt rubbery so I figured I was still dreaming. I tried to sit up in my bed, but it was so difficult to do so. I tried a number of times. The feeling I can liken to this situation would be being drunk heavy-headed and very weak.

I was finally able to (so it seemed) leave my bed and I went to my door and I could see my self - I was at the doorway and I was able to control myself from outside my body.

Then my alarm clock woke me up.

Its good when you can actually go back into a lucid dream, once waking up.. Well i can anyway, i never usually just have 1, i remember the times when i used to have it twice on after the other.. Found them scary back then, cause i didnt know what was happening, but now that i want to have them that many times i cant..
