Do they know?

Last night, I went to my friend's house to watch movie with other friends. I had just arrived, therefore, we were only three. We talked and something reminded me of one of my dreams which I felt obliged to talk about. I never told anyone about LDs, but I talk a lot about my dreams. Then one of my friends, which I don't know that well, we just hang out with the same people, that's all. He asked my other friend "Is he one of these people that keep getting dreams?" He asked and it didn't sound as a compliment. My other friend said "Yeah" with a sighed (kinda in the bad way). Then we changed subjects... I just wondered... What did he mean "Is he one of these people that keep getting dreams". Do they know about LDs? Does everyone know about LDs, just as we found them, except they don't believe or just don't like the idea? Are we like two or maybe three kind of people: The people That Lucid Dream, the people that know about it but find it pathetic and the people that don't know about it. Could the second group be bigger than we think? I mean, if we, lucid dreamer, don't talk so much about lucid dreams, why would the one that find it stupid ever talk about it? Would it be the reason we don't know about people knowing about it? Because no one talk about it? When he said "Is he one of these people..."... Would it mean he knows more than me? Or just that... Anyways, I don't even really know what I'm asking, but it just kinda felt weird in the moment and had to share.

I dunno why they would mention your dreaming in a negative way, but It sounds more like he frowns at dreaming in general, or that he personally doesn't dream anymore and you're "...one of these people that keep getting dreams". I don't see his remark suggesting any knowledge about LDs. (Unless you were retelling an LD?)

I don't think he knows about lucid dreaming.

It seems like he thinks of you as one of those people who thinks dreams are more than 'just dreams', you know? A person who feels that they're important, and relevant to waking life.

He probably also thinks that it's strange to dream frequently, because he doesn't know that he also dreams, though has bad recall...

Someone asked me before if i was one of those people who doesn't remember their dreams..lol...that was in a stage in my life when i didn't remember them well...funny,...i am in and out of those stages often

Many people just dont like to discuss dreams full stop. It makes them uncomfortable. Others do like to talk about them. Perhaps he was jealous that you can LD? My housemate is jealous of my LDs, although hes happy to talk about normal dreams. Perhaps its just jealousy.

Hm, that sounds to me like the normal thing when people don't know they dream daily, and find weird the ones who remember these dreams <.<

Why didn't you just ask him what he meant? It seems very strange for that chap to be asking others about you in your presence.

And no, I'm sure the vast majority of people don't know about it. Either way, don't worry about it mate - you seem to get very stressed out about this stuff. :happy:

I think the majority of the world understands the concept of 'having a dream and knowing you are dreaming in the dream', but I think most don't realize the control, stability, and vividness that is possible, or the fact that you can induce them to have more than one in a week, let alone a lifetime.

They probably just think you're some new age person.

Overall, people who spend a lot of their time talking to others about their dreams are viewed sort of negatively, or strangely. Especially if the other people does not understand how easy lucid dreaming is and how natural it is.

I agree though... I tend to view people who talk about dreams as being new age and weird. Reason is because hardly any of them know about lucids and they're only talking about dreams because they are looking for meaning/messages/spiritual guidance in them. That sort of thing bores the crap out of me to be honest. I feel like saying "One too many cups of dandelion tea today?"

By easy, I really just meant 'not impossible'.

Also, with the right amount of dedication you can learn to lucid dream at least a few times a month pretty quickly. So yes. Not impossible. Not paranormal. Not bullshit.

Hey Sleepy,

It just sounds like you talk about dreaming too much with these guys. I used to have a friend who was into magic. I'm also an amateur magician myself, but this guy talked about it constantly! Then one day, he started talking about going to school to take some classes. I thought, "Thank heavens! A different topic for once!". But he later revealed that he wanted to go to school to help him better his magic! It just gets hard to hear the same old stuff over and over again. Dreaming or anything else.

Some people do not like to talk about dreams, some even do not remember them clearly.

I mean I have talked to friends about LD, but they just think It is a dream where I think I know I'm dreaming/controlling my actions, and then they proceed to do a weird/funny face. And I feel I need to change the topic, cause they just won't get what a LD is.

Its possible he has very bad recall and thus doesn't remember any dreams. I know from my experience that I would remember a dream a month if I'm lucky otherwise, I always wake up with a blank in the morning. As someone here mentioned, its possible that you are talking about dreams too much and the subject has started to bore your friends. I would take a little break from it and see their reaction. Also, I wouldn't talk about LDs with anyone other than family members unless the guy that you're talking to mentions something about them which would open the topic up for discussion :)
