Subconsciousness
So in waking life, I guess it's our conscious selves doing stuff, while subconsciousness pops up from time to time when it gets the chance. However, while dreaming, subconsciousness is on the loose while our consciousness is sleeping. I believe that our dreams are actually our subconsciousness half the time trying to tell us stuff, and other half just being random.
So when we LD, what do we do in fact? Take control of our subconsciousness, actually become conscious, or a combination of both with either one prevailing differently depending on the situation? My guess is the last option and I believe that most people would say that too. I just thought this may be an interesting topic to discuss.

I think we become more or less conscious, however when awake our brain creates some kind of chemical or something that prevents hallucinations and we can only truly visualize very vaguely, but as we are dreaming it's like we woke up and are interacting in the dreams, in other words I don't know. I think the consciousness and subconsiousness, but the only thing that has changed is that now, since we are no longer "deluded" this interaction can now occur on our terms and not the subconsciousness terms, then again I don't think it had any inclination to control us to begin with per say, more a case of us being completely ignorant of what's going on around us. If children were taught to LD from birth this wouldn't be an issue as we'd always be lucid more or less.

I say we interact, after all dreams are the place of the subconcious.

I'd say we start to interact. I don't see the subconscious as another being. It could be seen as one, but I see it as a complex system of storage and functions, which are revealed so directly in dreams. It's what makes me me, but what I'm not at the core - the consciousness, soul, whatever.

In my opinion, LDing is mostly conscious with some subconscious. To me, our conscious is choosing what to do and is able to choose and make the environment sometimes while the subconscious fills in all of the missing parts.

Absolutely - interacting
think of this scenario
You're lucid and think..I WANT A SUPER COOL BIKE! So you imagine a hot red super cool bike, wave your finger and poof one appears........But look at all those details. You conscious imagination of the red bike was fuzzy, abstract.
Your subconscious did the real magic and turned your fuzzy idea into something 3D
It's not exactly taking 'control', your subconscious can still express it's creativity
