Well I am just wondering how many of us people are keeping this whole lucid dreaming thing a secret. I know I am! Well... my girlfriends knows but that's about it. You can select more than one if necessary.

Well I am just wondering how many of us people are keeping this whole lucid dreaming thing a secret. I know I am! Well... my girlfriends knows but that's about it. You can select more than one if necessary.
I've been trying to get my girlfriend to try it for a while now.. she's just not into it like I am though. I've told almost everyone else I know too, including people at work... they think it's some sort of cult thing. Some people just don't understand I guess.
i told my dad JUST the lucid dream part. hed think iwas a stoner if i went into detail about wilds and stuff.
i told my friend eddie and hes trying to do it too.
i told my exgf(gf at the time) and she probably thinks its wierd but shes a loser so idgaf
thats it i think.
I tell anyone who asks, or anyone who gets to me when I'm in dreaming mood <.< (so everyone)
my dad is the only person I know who I can have long conversations with about dreaming.
ya I only told my parents and a couple of friends who didnt seem to care very much. THey pretty mich stop listening when i tell them about dream journals.:P
I tell everyone anytime the topic comes up. Spread the LD fun!!!
Well my friends a natural, and he's the only other person I know who does it.
My immediate family listens to me when I talk about it, and my sister and I discuss dreaming sometimes, but that's the extenet of it.
I told my family about it, don't see a need to tell any of my friends. Everyone is busy with their own schedule. In my family, we talk a lot about the different dreams we have and their possible meaning :D
I told a few friends, randomly came up in conversation one day.
People who don't know about it seem to be amazed when you tell them.
I've been tring to talk about it with every opportunity however people usually react either like this: "WTF?!? Are you crazy?" or "Really? So cool. Anyway you heard about...".
As far as I'm concerned they can just go ahead and say that I'm crazy...wouldn't be a first and I don't mind really :)
It frustrates me because during the day I want to share my experiences, but no one seems to be interested.
I think Lucid dreaming is a thing that you can't experience alone, you need someone else.
This is why this is THE perfect forum :)
I have only told my Parents, Sister and one friend...They all looked at me in a way which seems like they think I'm crazy.
Sometimes I get annoyed when they dismiss it as being stupid and not true. But I no there all missing out.
I tell my family and friends sometimes. They don't get it, but that's okay. They'll soon learn...
When I tell people about lucid dreaming, I first ask them if they ever had a dream in which they realised they were dreaming. Most people answer yes and that way they look less weird at me when I tell them what lucid dreaming is.
lucid dreamings not's something commonly accepted in mainstrean society, more people probably know who on-dancing with the stars, this week, then what it is, explaining to others about the exsistance an unknown, mysterious, spiritual dimension, expect a fairshare of bias, ignorant and superstitous responses, i think the last person i mentioned it to wanted to randomly drug test me
I tell close friends, but normally only if they bring up dreaming.
Or, like Walms, if I'm in a dreaming mood.
hmm, I think the best way to tell it to someone is to do as mysterious dreamer said. Then it would be easier to discuss the subject and people won't look oddly at you when you mention it :) I do have to admit though, when I first started practicing to LD, I had my suspicions that it was impossible even with all the different experiences that I read on this and other websites. Once I had my first, my suspicions entirely left, but, I haven't been able to LD even once since then :(
I told my family and friends, and the only ones interested in it were my father (he's interested in how the brain works) and my cousin (he likes wet dreams). The other ones don't give a sh*t about it, they just look at me like I'm crazy.
Only my girlfriend and my best friend.
I find it best not to fire the lucid-cannon around others, some find the concept insane.
kind of surprised by the results. I expected more "it's a secret"
:)
I've kept it a complete secret.
All the worlds in my head are mine alone. :D
Well, most people like to let their family and friends know about something as cool as Lucid Dreaming. I think the only way that any of them will pursue it provided they aren't interested in it, is if they have a LD of their own, so, that at least the concept that it's impossible will be gone :P
About half the people that I've brought it up to will just say, "Oh, yeah, I do that all the time. Since I was four I've done that. Oh, you're saying that it's some cool skill? I geuss I'm just good at it without practice. Speaking of the metaphysical, did you hear about how I can raise my own body temperature as well as the people near me? I'll show you some time....." The other half ask a few questions about it out of politeness, and since I can usually tell when they aren't that interested I'll give them short and courteous answers so that they can introduce another topic.
Meh. It's why I usually don't mention it much.
Conversation broke out with the topic on dreams in my computer class at school. One class-mate said that he knew about and had some trouble with it. I think it started out with a girl who was, I think, writing in her dream journal during class. We talked about it for a while and yeah.. it was a good time.
People I know get akward when people talk about stuff they don't know about.
I've told some people, but I don't think I'd do it anymore.
I wish I knew someone who would talk to me about it IRL life though, I figure it would motivate me more.
I told my girlfriend about it. She thought it was so interesting that she actually started to attempt LD's as well, which helps motivate me, plus it's someone who I can share my LD experiences with.
2 of my teachers know and all my friends who pay attention know. I'm not ashamed about it, infact I encourage it!
I told my sister.
Lol @ "my therapist" option
I only tell close friends. There are few people I feel comfortable discussing lucid dreams with, and I only share my experiences with people who are open-minded enough to appreciate it or those who I know won't ridicule it.
I only told my boyfriend about it. honestly, he´s even annoyed by me already because I mention it every day :/
I tell everyone I can.
I've never really gotten weird looks from anyone, but perhaps one day I will, haha.
most of my class know i lucid dream they all love the idea and it seems everyone has had a LD once, its great because everyone wants to tell me there favorite dream. its kinda funny, dreaming is something most people dont talk about and I notice people really open up if given the chance. it started when my West Civ. my teacher (im sure a old stoner) started talking about a differant reality and went into tribal men with that catus drug, he saw me staring at him because we'd talked about lucid dreaming before between me and him and he said "Mr. Dugan knows exactly what im talking about" i had the whole floor for 10 min. that class talking about flying, being able to play god. the mindset of it all, lol everyone was begging me to tell them how to do it. -that was really hard to do, ya know explain how to lucid dream in a minute. couldnt tell um much gave them the basic WILD. now anyway I hear lucid dreaming come up in the locker room and such, its great because everyone tends to turns to me and say "oh yea you know all about that stuff right?" few guys tell a cool dream they had. anyway its a great topic if you can cram how awesome it is in a few sentences before people lose interest. i had the whole floor of the class to help start the knowledge of it at my school
I tell friends and family when the subject of dreaming comes up, mainly when they're relaying to me one of their particularly weird dreams. That's when I go "You know, I had this one lucid dream...", and if they ask what a lucid dream is, then peachy. If they're not interested, I move on with my life and don't dwell on it...something that a few people on this forum need to learn how to do, hint, hint. Different strokes for different folks, I always say; why should I look scathingly at people who aren't interested in LDing when they do me the mutual favor of not looking at me scathingly for not being interested in...say, American Idol, or some thing to that effect?
I haven't talked to anyone as of now, but I do plan on reporting my progress to my uncle since he is the one who instructed me. I also have a great uncle that is a shaman that I see once every 5 years or so. When I see him, I will surely bring it up.
I tell a couple of my friends my dreams if theyre interesting, but I usually don't go too far into detail about lucids. Whenever I've tried describing lucids people seem to get lost in the terminology or I can't get the right words. I think for the most part the person has to be genuinely interested to understand. Otherwise you might just sound crazy xD
I've told a lot of my friends about it, but most people think it's crazy and can't really understand it. A lot of them smoke a LOT of weed, and don't remember any of their dreams, which is kind of sad.
But there are a few who I've talked t about it and they already knew about it. I don't think anyone except this girl I knew in high school has ever actually had a lucid dream though. Most of them watched Waking Life or something and got really interested, went and did a bunch of research, but never really put in the actual effort. I still think you basically have to keep a dream journal if you seriously want to have LDs. Maybe not if your a natural or have been interested in dreams your whole life, but most people spend absolutley none of their day thinking about dreaming, and if you don't you aren't gonna think about it when your asleep.
I generally keep it a secret. I have told people I have had lucid dreams in the past, but I don't tell people I actively try for lucid dreams.
It's not that I wouldn't tell them but it's something which has never really come up in conversation with family or friends.
What would be cool is if someone at school started a dream club. I mean they got clubs that seems... not as interesting as dreams I mean who wants to talk about recycling right?
I do that on my own time but if there was some other people in real life that are interested in dreams, they should be interested in lucid dreams even more so. I started college not that long ago but I highly doubt we have a dream club but I could always check. Why not just go do that after I get off the computer I mean I'm typing from school right now.
I find it interesting that societies like these don't exist... or if they do somewhat secretly. which is a pity because I would find that interesting.
on the other hand I probably would want to share my LD experiences to real-life that I don't know people because most people have childish judgemental attitudes. Beyond that any such society will probably get flooded with wackos with highly dubious theological/pseudoscience beliefs regarding dreams.
i made the mistake of telling some people who were a lot more closed-minded then I expected them to be, and now I either never talk about it or am very very careful about who I tell. Luckily my best friend thought it was awesome and tries to lucid dream all the time now, so it was nice that she was really open minded and cool about it. However, it doesn't happen that often for some reason, so I keep it on the down-low.
I've told my mom at Mcdonalds one night. And we got into this discussion about it and she said she had lucid dreams before, but, she would rather have normal dreams and have that feeling of surprise or fear.:D
i slyly told my brother but then he asked me if i write awake on my hand, weird guy writing stuff on his hand ;p
I met up with a good friend of mine at work. I told him to look up the Astral Plane and he knew exactly what I was talking about! xD He used to be buddhist and was into meditation, but infortunatly he gave it up:shock: Maybe he can give me some insight though
I'm so interested in the topic and I'm so anxious to have one that I WANT to tell everyone, but I don't. Well, I tell some people. Most of the time they seem uninterested or I just get the feeling they don't fully understand the concept. That's why I don't tell anybody about it anymore. The thing is, I'm so into the whole idea of it, I'm shocked when other people aren't. How could you NOT be into this?
I have often wondered this and from what I can find by carefully asking family members who don't seem to be interested ( that is all of them :( ) and a couple of trusted friends it has become obvious to me that most people do not take any interest in dreams because either, they our two proud to explore something that doesn't literally exist. or more commonly, they have never had vivid dream recall or any dream recall ever.
you'll be stunned just how many people can become middle-aged without being able to recall a single dream. In which case it's no wonder.
The only one that really knows of my lucid dreaming interest is my girlfriend, but she´s like "what´s that good for?". She´s one of those that rarely remember her dreams, but I´m sure that if she tried she would get better pretty fast. I bet she´s thinking "why can´t he stop talking about his freakin dreams all the time!". She´s very sceptic towards all things supernatural and "wierd", I can´t even talk about ghosts because then she get nightmares she claims. I´ll talk her into trying LD eventually though :)
When I was reading Stephen LaBerge´s book about lucid dreaming I got some questions about it from my family, but I think they were just trying to be polite. They didn´t really care.
The fact that most people just doesn´t seem to care when they hear about lucid dreaming suprises me. I mean I´ve fantisised about flying and doing all this cool stuff you can do in a lucid dream since I was a baby! Why do you think that some people just don´t find it interesting?
yeh i tell anyone when the subject comes up but im not too enthusiastic as most people are like "yeah i had a dream the other day when i was like that" when they are blatently lieing. my best friend and I have a partnership hobby of it thoughand i tell my family with pleasure. :)
I really don't see why not.
If I actually had Lucid Dreams, I'd be all over everyone with my dreams.
But so far, I tell people about lucid dreaming if the subject comes up. If they are interested, I might explain the WILd and DILD shortly.
Usually, that ends with them saying that they have had that kind of dreams before, and then continue to tell me what awesome shit they did.
Then I shut up because I haven't had any awesomes yet.
Seem like everyone around me is dead...
They can't seem to understand the fact they basically wasting each night where they could be doing anything they want. They act like it a lame flash game or something small...They should be treating it as a skill like drawing which can have great outcomes.
Guess everyone around me are too simple minded to understand.
I wouldn't say ordinary either, i'd say people are not open minded about things like dreams, which most people barely know anything about anyway. People fear the unknown, and im usually called a hippy when I talk about lucid dreaming, which is always very amusing.
I'd go with "less conscious, having less awareness of their surroundings and being unfamiliar with their own mind".
Yeah at first I told my friends and my mom about the amazing LD-s I had but my mom made an insane face at me jokingly and stuff and acted like I was insane, my friends were basically the same though some were polite- one even almost gained lucidity but didn't. At first I was very quite upset that I couldn't share my great experiences with them, however I am now okay with it and don't talk about it except on the interwebz so I think everybody assumes I just got bored with it and stopped or something.
I am not frustrated with em because being so would be the same as being frustrated with video game characters for having bad AIm or with DC's for that matter. Each form of consciousness/reality has it's own rules.
i have only told to my best friend...
I voted only my best friend, and that's my Mum :) Apart from her I haven't told anyone else, I don't feel the need to.
Wouldn't you say it is a little... "simple minded"... to not care about wasting 1/3 of your entire lifetime (8 out of 24 hours) doing nothing at all :P? I'll tell my family when i have an awesome :D!
EDIT: of course, I'm overgeneralizing, only half of that is "useful" REM sleep ^-^
I've told my family and wife, but that is all. My brother thought it was cool and tried to get some LD's working but he never could and gave up.
I think I've mentioned it to some other friends in passing, but we were on the topics of dreams and they moved on without interest.
I've mentioned it. I told a friend about it about two years ago and he got interested. I talked to him about astral projection too, but he seemed skeptical about that. He said it sounded like some kind of cult thing.
I think to not care that you can do anything you want is uhhh... well maybe they're aliens from another planet or something as i've said in another post. andus lucid dreamers are the only real life forms here.
how about that?
Everyone is always telling me about their dreams and asking me about them.
I'm getting quite sick of explaining and usually avoid the topic all-together now.
My dad knows I can lucid dream (he used to be a natural). My grandparents know I'm a member on this site. I've had 3 friends sign up for this site;Sjord, Khatool, and JJill55. I'm fairly certain Sjord's stopped posting, JJill55 probably only posted once or twice, and Khatool got banned for being a year underage. I told one friend (rather, she asked what I was writing). Turns our she knew about lucid dreams, but never invested the time. She's always been courteous enough to ask about it though when I'm writing. Some people think it's ridiculous. At one point, I had to use my free time at school to type my dreams into my dream journal. Almost every day, this one girl would ask me "typing your dreams again?" Drawing out the dream, trying to make it condescending. I once answered "Yes. Am I really so far above you that that's the only thing you can make fun of me for?". She answered "pretty much, yes"
I was telling my mom about it today...
How'd that go?
I tell people who I think might also be interested in it.
Yeah, I haven't really told anyone that I am currently trying to get lucid dreams, and I usually approach the subject by saying, "So, there's this really cool thing I've heard of..." If they respond well to that, I'll probably tell them that I try to lucid dream and induction methods and stuff. I've only told this to one or two people though.
My dad just told me he lucid dreams sometimes. I said I do it all the time.
I did a presentation about it in front of my entire English class. Before that I had never mentioned it to anyone.
I still haven't told my family, but it's not something I would be interested in discussing with them anyway.
I believe you should tell anyone that is willing to hear it. Lucid Dreaming is perfectly natural we are just on the look out for superstitious people that would think we flipped our bippy.
I don't advertise my hobby, but its something my friends know I'm interested in and who cares about anyone else?
I have told a few people. My brother and a couple of friends. I usually get the same glasd stare as if I'm crazy. LDing seems so natural to me that I thought alot more peple had them. I was suprised that so few people have good dream recall. Dreams have always played a powerful role in my life and I get very excited when I have those really vivid dreams. I feel I want to tell everyone but I know iits better just to bite my lip.
I will give my best friend his due. He tollerates me rattling on about the subject allthough I know he's never had an LD.
i have told most of my friends and most of my immediate family.
a couple of my friends are lucid dreamers themselves and are of course into the subject.
a couple of my friends have been really interested and said they were definitely going to start practicing.
most have not cared at all. i don't understand why.
a few really good friends think it sound's awesome but are probably not going to attempt to have lucid dreams.
my mom thinks its some kind of drug-related escapism or something. this is what i gather anyway.
i will probably end up telling my dad about it someday and he will probably give me a weird look and change the subject or not say anything.
my oldest sister thinks it sounds cool but she "doesn't like dreaming." and "doesn't want to have to do anything extra while sleeping."
my other two sisters are indifferent to the subject.
simply put, not being interested in lucid dreaming is unfathomable to me. i can think only very few things i would realistically like to be able to have/do/be more.
edit: the word 'realistically'
I told people about it... and they made fun of me... never again:(
i have told two people. My friend Josh and my friend John. I told them because i think that they are the most likely not to care and not make fun of me or think im crazy. Josh doesnt really care and doesnt see the significance in Lucid Dream and john doesnt really believe me. I kinda want to tell my girlfriend but im afraid of how she will respond. I dont want her to think im crazy or something. So for now it is basically a secret.
Me and a friend got a lot of our friends into it, but now it's just me and him that stuck with it.
Anyways i use to have Lucid Dreams often, and i even managed to have 1 min dreams everyday until i told a friend of mine who then mentioned it to my parents and they took me to a therapist. I then told him and i went through a hypnosis experiment to REVERT me back to normal :embarrassed: since then i haven't had a lucid dream. However, i realized that i wasnt crazy and Lucid dreams were normal so i tryed having them again and now am back but i still cant manage to have them. SO i am trying to hypnotize myself into having lucids but even then i am not as good as i was before. Even my regular dreams are less vivid..its like i am a zombie an my dreams are barely there. Its sad because i cant even sleep well...:( help
I told to some people, but they didn't seem to understand or to get interested in what I told them.
I think some people are intrested but other people do not understand and think its strange and bascally just do not care about it even tho everyone just about dreams. Were normal not them:banana:
wow dude that's sick. What about finding that therapist or another one and asking him to reverse this? Honestly how could they do that to you??
However remember that whatever the "nazi therapist" did it's still your mind and your subconsciousness. you have the power. keep a dream journal and read it before sleep, drink plenty of milk in the evening and tea at night, say mantras like "I will remember my dreams and they'll be vivid", and practice all sorts of induction techniques. In time, whatever he did to you will loose effect.
That is just insane! there is absolutely nothing wrong with LDing many people do it by accident all the time. As is mentioned above the entire matter really is in your head and with time you will be fine. If you want to go the route of extra material to increase vividness I would recommend 200mg of 5-HTP a day.
And since when did anybody consider lucid dreaming dangerous? There sure aren't any peer review articles on this. I would ask this therapist for "qualifications" you may have been treated by a cowboy practitioner.
wow, thats a lotta crazy in one story blade, cant believe a friend told your parents!
Anyone I tell isn't really interested in lucid dreaming and are just like "Oh...right"
I told my best friend and my mom. At first nothing really happened, but then my mom decided it was cool and now tells everyone that I lucid dream. I don't mind though, because I'm really awkward when it comes to bringing up LDing. Oh, and I told my other friend after we had a long conversation about dreams. I was surprised that she didn't really get it, especially considering that she'd had several lucid dreams before...
The first time I read about lucid dreaming, I thought it was a supernatural phenomenon, and didn't totally buy into it. Its understandable that most people would feel this way.
I believe that many people who are interested in LDs think there is some supernatural element to it, when really...it's all just in your head (in a good way!)
I have shared my fascination with LDs with many of my friends, but I have always been sure to explain that it is a real phenomenon and can be scientifically explained.
Actually my friend told me he was able to control his dreams sometime, then I did some research about controlling our dream and found this forum, but he's not interested in how to have these dreams and what they are. He just get those and enjoy (I hate him lol).
I told my parents but now they think I'm crazy.
I got the impression that relatively few people who are interested in lucid dreaming think it's something supernatural. People who are serious about it (or are just curious) will soon find out that there's nothing unnatural about it.
Unless you meant that a lot of people who hear about it for the first time are interested because they think it's something supernatural... Although I'm not sure I'd agree with that either.
i told my dad he laughtet and dont believed it..hes like "yeah last night i got a dream with 3 brasil girls but the dog woke me up and i was angry..haha" then i told some friends they did not care much...very strange that the people dont see the possibilities..its like beeing in the matrix..the coolest thing ever...
i told my girlfirend from the beginning of my practise and first she told me thats not possible blahblah but now when i tell her about my approve she starts to believe and maybe try it by herself...
this pretty much sums up the entire thread. Very cool, yet very... now it could be my lamentable knowledge of the english language, but I just have trouble describing that feeling. sad? - in that you can't share the joy with relatives? maybe at least in the beginning, later that goes away. The frustration of not being able to tell anyone? is that it? or "the secret" that's cause ppl think you're weird/nuts and are only able to share in places such as this, and the consequences of having to live your, presumably, entire life this way, hiding your "beliefs", as people of different religions, political opinions and of unconventional sexual orientations have been doing for ages- and just as all of the aforementioned gained at least some form of recognition in at least some parts of the world, our "ways of life" are so alien to the general populous they aren't even aware it exists, so general acceptance is very far off indeed- could be tomorrow that some public figures admit they're LD-ers and educate the masses, or could be generations, or thousands of years (if humanity survives that long), or indeed never.
However, unlike religion/politics/etc, this form of life is not and never will be under threat, and because of the Internet the community of LD-ers will grow and grow, hopefully support groups, nay, bad choice of words, since we do not require support- conventions/gatherings, yeah, that's more appropriate- anyhow meetings/conventions will hopefully begin to take place, in various countries and arranged over the internet, so people can come and share their experiences- no doubt if discovered they might seem cult-like by the media and ridiculed, but what new idea wasn't? then I see public debate, and eventually, hopefully acceptance.
Till then I'll continue to LD and not give a f**k about telling anyone and be just a little more "lucid" then my compatriots :)
I've only told one friend that I'm recording my dreams, because I can't help but to share them with her!
I don't want to tell anyone about lucidity because I feel like they would think I was twisted for wanting to do something like controlling my dreams.
I almost told my dad a long time ago, then realized I'd rather keep it a special thing and not make it public. If I could get anyone interested in discussing waking in a dream, I'd probably tell them about the induction part. I can see how the resemblance to all the pseudo-spiritual junk out there could definitely put people off though.
I tell everyone who seems even remotely interested.
I've told most of my closest friends. And most of them don't really seem to "get it".
Except for one of them who actually had a LD the same night I told her about it.. Only, it was sort of a semi-lucid nightmare where she was trapped in a room with transparent walls without any exits, and a psychotic guy was walking around pounding on the walls from the other side. A part of her realized that she was in a dream, but she had no control at all.
It really freaked her out so she told me she never wanted to hear another thing about Lucid dreaming ever again. I tried explaining to her that Lucid dreaming isn't simply knowing that you're dreaming, but also taking control over them. But she just told me to shut up basicly
lol. Nice job, Woozie.
I tell anybody who's interested, or seems interested. Philosophical people like myself.
Were they still interested after you told them that, or were they just like, "Oh. So, did you see what was on TV last night? blah blah blah blah..."
I actually forced my friend to do a WBTB (we were having a sleepover and I set an alarm) and told her how to DILD, DEILD (from a non-lucid where you feel the dream fading out and realize that you were just dreaming), and RC. She had a lucid that same night, but said she didn't do anything in the dream aside from thinking, "Yay! Now I can do whatever I want." She didn't seem all that excited, not like I was after my first lucid. Then again, it took me a whole month to get mine. I think part of the excitement of LDing is discovering and accomplishing it for yourself.
i can't believe that freaking happend. i just really don't get it. lucid dreaming i believe is good for the mind. Exploring a picture that you painted, seeing what kind of weird things your mind holds. I would actually think a hypnotist would understand what lucid dreaming is. he could be some kind of fraud or just a cheap ass doc.
I wouldnt give up. just keep practicing. it is in your control.
Well, I told my cousin, but this was when I couldn't lucid dream and said I wanted to. So he didn't think I was crazy and said he also wanted to.
