Never been to me. I suppose it could for other people.
Yes, One time i saw a clown and i shat myself, Woke up and realised it was a False awakening. And then i realised i unrinated all over myself.
You cannot get hurt in your dreams, Do not fear them.
"Scared by the dream"? I highly doubt that, my first lucid I was one of the most amazing experiences I have ever had, and this dream was a total accident. I didn't know lucid dreaming was possible until then!
I know, ive been wanting to have them for a long time, but i recently thought about it an i was thinking "what if having a lucid dream could actually turn out to be scary", but its just another stupid irrational fear of mine
Worry not, as you are all powerful in a Lucid dream!
lucid dreaming can be scary yes.. it depends on what happens.
i have had many scary lucids.. but you will probably find that when you become lucid it will be the happiest moment of your life and there will be nothing to fear unless you spawn a demon or something like that =p
being scared of the realness of a lucid is common too.. sometimes i am in a dream and i am so convinced that it is real life after i do a RC i am terrified for a second that it was a dream.. but you get over it quickly when you realize you can do whatever you want =p
Do you mean just being scared because you've just become lucid or the content of the dream being scary, such as monsters etc?
I think both qualify really, as in my first LD I was falling from the sky and didn't know why, but somehow parts of it were so realistic that I kept doing a double check just in case it was real lol.
Mostly, I think if you're new to LDing in general then it could be scary just getting the lucid feeling, but first time it'll be a shock, followed by..hey cool, I'm dreaming! followed by excitement and then waking up wanting more.
Yeah, not so much just the fact of being lucid, i can imagine that would be an amazing feeling once you realize your lucid. But i mean what if the second you become lucid your mind purposefly creates terrible things and the such just on purpose you know?
I cannot believe people are doubting this. you have to realise that not only do you dream the five senses but many of your thoughts are part of your dream mind even if lucid and the same is true for emotions.
The first couple of times I did a WILD the first thing I experienced was erratic changes in emotion. This usually fitted from excitement to fear.
Just last night I had a lucid false awakening where I looked out of the bedroom window and so the sky be a psychedelic oscillation between pink and purple. Most people would find this wonderful however I was paralysed by fear (no idea why) and the colours disappeared followed by a white flash and mushroom cloud. Unsurprisingly I woke up when the blast hit.
Of course I knew all along that it was a dream however for me inexplicable dream fear is a regular occurrence and I usually use it as a dreamsign to trigger LDs.
The same also tend to go for other emotions. All that said why do people actively remove the fear from a dream? It is your only opportunity to become comfortable with your own sense of fear and thus train better coping skills for real life. I kind of like being terrified in a LD its the only way to explore your sense of fear without having to put yourself in danger.
I've only had 3 LD's so far so not really qualified on how the dream world reacts once you're aware of what it is, but mine were generally run of the mill places such as work or at home so there was no scary things in them. I would be interested in what would have happened if I'd have opened a door wthout full expectation of what was going to be on the other side. Hopefully, I would like it to be what I expect rather than the unexpected, but who knows! Others can perhaps tell you what might happen if you had a pretty open mind whilst exploring the dreamscape. And don't forget, as a general rule, what you expect to be there should be, but if not and it's something you don't like, then pay it no attention by turning around or looking away and it should cease to exist ( i think )
Oh so you meant get scared on lucids, not of lucids, of course it can happen and I actually like it, of course thats only me <.<
Unless you mean scared of knowing your asleep and then think you may never wake up.
Yes. It can happen. It's happened to me a couple of times. Usually it's the other way around, where I will be having a dream that suddenly turns itself into a nightmare, and then I'll become lucid - but every now and then, I'll be having a dream, become lucid, and then weird shit will start happening as if my subconscious is actually trying to freak me out.
It's no more common than any other 'bad dream,' though, so it shouldn't be something that would make you apprehensive about lucid dreaming.
It happens to me. Not often, but it still does.
I think ill just try to remember that "This is all just an illusion created by my your mind and that it isnt real" and hopefully that should be enough to not even be scared by the biggest things (hopefully) lol
Delph you kanti sig and avatar are awsome!
Haven't you been talking to fellow LDers much yet? :) Mostly people feel elated, fear is a rarity.
If you think so, you've never been really scared :)Quote:

Hi Arutad I don't think you know me so I cannot imagine how you can have any idea of my forum history especially since it is possible to use multiple avatars and there are multiple forums. don't let my number of posts fool you on this login.
as for "fear is a rarity." I can say that my dreams are whatever my dreams are and if yours are different that's absolutely fine. after all isn't anything possible in an LD? isn't it possible to dream emotions and sensations...? I find it very disappointing that some people think your senses are just the basic five.
It is well documented that dream orgasms occur in normal dreams as well as lucid ones (read EWLD). so why not negative emotions?
And as for "really scared" again you don't know me. I have been assaulted twice. Investigated on suspicion of assault once. Had my hand trapped in the double hinges of an automatic closing door whilst someone who doesn't like me threatens to close the mechanism (which is technically a third assault). and been run over on my pushbike.
I really don't think you know me at all.
Lol man what's wrong with you? I'm not accusing you of anything or attacking your personality.
Sometimes I get lonely, which can be a little scary. Then I realize how silly I am and get on with something else.
Of course you can get scared in a lucid dream, just like how you can get scared in a regular dream. But that shouldn't be a reason to fear lucid dreaming, since in a scary lucid dream you know that it isn't real and you know that you are almighty. If anything, a scary LD should be less scary than a regular scary dream.
Of course there are scary lucids. Sure, you may (or may not...) be in control while lucid, but that doesn't mean unexpected and sometimes scary things won't continue to happen around you anyway. It's still the dream world, lucid or not.
EDIT: Uh...yeah, basically exactly what she^ said. I need to start looking at other posts before replying :P .
Scary lucids are very much possible.
Some people probably set up nightmares for themselves when they are lucid. Anything can happen in a dream, and remember, just because you're in a dream and are lucid, does not mean you will have full control over the dream. So if your dream starts out in a nightmare, and you become lucid, it can still be scary.
Even if a LD is scary it's a lucid dream after all so you should be able to control it and make it into something not so scary ;)
Lucid dream may become scary when the dreamscape ressemble a phobia or trauma. I had a LD some years ago where I saw all the surroundings from where I live totally destroyed. The realism of the scene shocked me, even knowing that was just a dream.
People here write about control... Can you really control nightmares? When I'm scared I can't control anything.
It only works in an indirect way, like leaving a scary room or getting rid of scary characters by killing them. If for some reason it's impossible or difficult, then I'm pretty much stuck :(. Can't just make them vanish. Even dream scenery will change accordingly to be scarier, fear feeds on itself.
I've seen chairs move across rooms, evil faces on the television. I've been pinned to the floor, and to my bed - not able to move a single muscle. I've watched my room turn to fire and fall as ash.
I only see these apparitions when I'm lucid dreaming. It's like turning on a scary movie - you know it is not real, but that does not make you fearless. Your skin can still crawl, the hair on your arms and neck can still stand on end.
Every lucid experience I've ever had was terrifying. And yet part of me continues to want this, as if it's ever actually going to improve and not be so strange and foreign. Yes. Lucids can be scary.
