wanting SP. how should i breath.

Over the past few days i have been trying to get SP to enter a dream.

i have tryed to concentrate on my breathing and counting my breaths, but i have noticed when i do they are much deeper than normal breaths when i think about them.
but when i breath normally and count them they end up changing to these heavier, deeper breaths.

is just doing deep breaths and focusing on them (with out counting) enough to keep me aware?

i tried a very basic WBTB last night. i got up, went to toilet, got into bed, and just lay there, waiting, with an 'empty'mind.

after yonks of nothingness, i gave up after the mega itch on my nose was unbearable.

in the past, iv been able to get to SP much much quicker, thats why i gave up. after an annalysis the next morning, i realised what the problem was.

i was not relaxed enough. relaxation techniqes are very important for a WBTB WILD.
i suggest doing some stetches + some relaxed breathing (get in relaxing position, take very slow deep beaths and feel tension let go)

as for what to do with the mind, try imagining you are in a lucid dream. this is good for 3 reasons.

1)it replicates the brain paterns of a dream, so SP comes faster

2)the time will pass faster

3)it will be easier to ignor itches

try them out, they might work, they might not.

i have tryed imagining that i'm infront of my house on the grass just walking about and stuff.
is this the sort of thing you mean?
and will this be enough to keep my mind aware, but not awake?

When we sleep we breath a lot slower and more rhythmically.

Someone suggested a while back that you should record yourself sleeping to see what you sleep breathing pattern is. Then try to replicate it while doing WILD.

I try to breath slowly and evenly, but not in a forced way. I focus on a few breaths to help myself get deeply relaxed, then I stop thinking about my breathing altogether. The goal is to get yourself right on the edge of losing consciousness or falling asleep. If your breathing is distracting you, forget about it. On the other hand, if you are using it as something to focus on so you don't lose consciousness completely, then focus on it all you want.

I don't like to focus on my breathing while WILDing, because it freaks me out. When I start to hit SP or get some hypnagogia, my breathinig and heart rate often seem to get all whacked out. By the time I reach that point, I like to have completely lost track of my physical body, and be halfway in a hallucination or dream.
