Is a second in real life the same as a second In dream world. When people say stuff like "I had a 30 min dream" is it really 30 min is there anyway to know? I just think that there might be a ratio like 1 real second is say 5 dream seconds

supposedly, there is a correlation between RL time and Dream time.
Hmm that's cool so when someone has a 1 hour dream it might be 1 hour
In the book "Exploring The World Of Lucid Dreaming" By Stephen Laberge, he had done scientific studies to see how much RL time and Dreamworld Time is different. He came up with the conclusion at the end of his study that, they are pretty much the same. If there is any difference, it is just a small sliver..
very interesting. I wish while yo uwere sleeping it seemed like that. You know how time flies when you are sleeping. i wish time would slowdown to normal time when sleeping. does that make sense?
Anyhow, hey Spirit Of The Wolf, you are from my neck of the woods. Born and raised in Sanford. I now live near Nashville TN though.
In general 10 seconds is 10 seconds, though 30 minutes may not be 30 minutes, because while generally dream time and real time are the same, sometimes the dream can "skip" bits - as in you might start walking across a desert, then suddenly be on the other side. There is no real time in between, but you still get the feeling that you have been walking for a week or something.
I think RedfishBluefish just explained that.Quote:
Lets not forget that those scattered reports also suggest it is possible to live weeks/months/years worth of experiences in a 1hr REM period.
I'm going to go vote "tosh" on that one.
Once in a non-lucid I had a dream last 2 months. Everything was totally realistic. It was set in a city that my mind made up but the city remained consistent and 100% vivid the entire time. Nothing changed randomly, nothing was science-fictiony. At any rate the city was similar to New York City and I was a grown bachellor with my own mundane job and an ordinary family.
Each day in the dream was like a real day. I got up in my apartment, (that once again stayed the same throughout the whole dream once again,) I went
to my job, afterwards maybe hit up a bar with some friends or watched a movie or saw my mom. None of my family, friends, or co-workers were anyone that I've ever met but each had disticnt personalities and lives and histories that I knew.
Getting into the dream was easy, as the moment it started I knew everyone that was a DC and all seemed familiar. Getting out of the dream was not so easy. When I woke up I had no idea where I was. And then things in my real life started to spill back in. I had to get up and get ready for school. I didn't know how I was just going to do that. I didn't feel like I was Aaron. I felt like I was my dream alias. It was hard to get back into my life for a while.
My only guess is that each second my un-conciouss brain comprehended a crap load more than my conciouss brain could and my sub-conciouss brain percieved it as a longer time than had elapsed in the waking world. As in, 2 moths worth of data was percieved in an hour or two. But the difference of time elapsed is merely semantics as it felt like a long time.
Another theory on it is that the brain generates memories to make an experience seem longer, instead of directly processing every piece of false sensory input.
i have a dream that lasted like 3 seconds... and passed 6 hours in real life
Any links?
I'm not buying it. Skipping bits, yes. But actually creating fake memories, nah.
I can understand someone thinking oh how did I get here, thinking about it I must have walked. But that's because the brains logic processors are somewhat fuzzy during dreams. Meaning you accept it with very little evidence.
But actually creating fake memories, in that you haven't experienced them but if you think back you remember experiencing them. Theres no logical reason for it.
What LaBerge found is that it's possible for dream time and real time to pass at similar speeds. Not that it's impossible for a dream to be slower or faster than real time. So, like most things in dreams, probably if you want it to be, then, yes.
Fake memories is common in my dreams, even in lucid ones.
I know who is my bro, my dad, and any of my friends even if the DC don't look anything like them. My dreams skip a lot. It seem like I never walking anywhere, I just there.
Wow lots of responses thanks for the info everyone, but wow you lived two months durring one night that's amazing I can imagine it would be odd waking up and realizing you spent 1/6 of a year in a dream and knowing you may never go back to that world again.
but you don't dream for the entire time that you're asleep.Quote:
