i just read a dream journal..Hirogashi's I think, and they mentioned that lights do not usually work in lucid dreams.I can attest to that...very interesting!At least my understanding from my own dreams is that in my own lucid dreams its always dark or very dim..Anyone know why this is?Is it related to the actual time of day we have the lucid dreams?Has anyone turned lights on in their lucid dreams?Lucid dreamed in bright sunshine( the dream itself being bright daytime).?
Usually, electronics don't work in regular dreams.
Sometimes, do to lack of control/expectation/trust things just don't work in lucid dreams. Electronics can be one of them.
Dark dreams aren't uncommon, I believe it is because there isn't much light around you at the time of the dream, but that is just a guess. Turn on some lamps in a LD next time. And yes, many people do this. And yes, I've had lucid dreams where the sun was sweltering. Burning hot. Shining bright.
Yeah, common rule/myth is that electronics don't work, they always work for me though, have both daytime and nighttime lucids, I see them the same. (Have more daytime than nighttime)
Huh. The electronics thing seems to be a standard test for the dream state, but I personally hadn't heard that most dreams were dark. If that's the case with you, then you have a great method for testing your state. My dreams are no different than real life. If it's dark out it's because it's night time or I'm in a dark room, but I don't normally dream dark. I've even had dreams which were so real I had to ask myself if they were dreams or not.
Yeah that was one of the reality checks used in waking life. i wouldnt rely on it though because ive controlled light in my dreams before.
ofcourse your only imagening the light.
Most of my dreams are very bright, and it is possible for electronics to work in dreams, though sometimes they will not. It's false to say that they will always work or that they will always fail to work.
Yeah mine are usually no different than the real world unless I'm lucid, everything might be more clear.

I've turned lights on and off with my mind in lucid dreams.
In my experience sometimes they work sometimes they do not. I guess it all depends on what you expect to happen. If you need the light and are worried it won't work- it usually doesn't.

I think in most cases that's all there is to it. There are some who have great control over their dreams. But personally I find that when I expect something to happen (nothing do to with WANTING it to happen) it usually happens. If I want to fly but expect that I won't be able to I find that I can't. It's all about getting past that. I'm still working on that. I guess that's why some people can't run in nightmares?Quote:

Only in one LD did I manage to turn on a light. It was the bathroom light, and even then, the light was very dim.
I've had light switch kind of work...
When I first turned it on it looked as if something was blocking the light causes some weird looking shadows to be casted on the walls, but then soon after I turned it on, the light came on fully.
To me, it seems random whether or not the lights will work. Sometimes I can easily turn on a light switch and be done with it. Other times I have to go outside and manually force the sun to rise just so I can see properly. I don't think the light switch thing is a myth, I just think it has exceptions. Obviously lights CAN work in dreams, but that doesn't mean they will.
That's why it shouldn't be used as a reality check; rather, it should be the REASON for one. If the lights don't work, RC.
Actually i use my cellphone as a rc..i always see a bunch of phone numbers appear on the screen and that's how i realise i'm dreamin...and i dream both through day or nighttime

I asked this specific question and ended up here so here's my experience. Many dreams I have differ on the environment available. I get out of bed to switch on the light and it doesn't work. Then I try other ones and they don't either. At times this just leaves a dark room but a lot of the time I have a blind experience where I feel where I am and what is where but I can't see it. Can our instincts play a stronger role in our dreams and maybe be part of the reason? Fear vs. Instinct? I don't no for sure but lights not working happens 80-90% of the time for me when in a room or house. But if a room is part of a fantasy world that takes me outside to places that connect with no logical sense then controlling light doesn't exist and I find myself ending up in places along a one way path that I can't go back along in the same way.
