does lucid dreaming effect your grasp on reality?

i have been what i can only describe as lucid dreaming for as long as i can remember. i have never heard of it till about two months ago. I think it affects my reality. sometimes i don't know whether or not things are happening. To be honest i have started to prefer dreaming to reality i feel like the people i create in my dreams actually understand me and how lonely i actually feel. i have lots of friends some closer than others but i never feel i can talk to them about anything, my dreams give me that comfort. while in school i often begin to day dream, distorting my reality from my view of the room to better suit my comfort. though when brought out of it i feel even more depressed. in the end i find that perhaps i want to just keep dreaming. rather than face the reality of the world. being a 17 year old student in my last year of high school its getting harder and harder to socialize with people because i find them all so material and shallow. does anyone else find that lucid dreaming can distort your perception on reality when in everyday situations?

You sir need some lovings.. and maybe a group of friends who also enjoy LD's.. I feel that way quite often, I'm into such eccentric things that talking to normal people about my beliefs, or what I like, or what I would like the world to be about.. they all think I'm just weird. :D

I've learned to accept my weirdness, and live for my beliefs, but you can't escape reality, without it, you wouldn't have the yin to your yang (which would be dreaming).. there's alot of people out there who aren't materialistic and shallow, and often times the people you think are materialistic and shallow, just haven't woken up and seen the world yet.

You might just be a bit ahead of your time, but don't worry people will catch up, and when they do, you'll be ahead of them XD. Blessings brother. <3.

Dreaming definitely affects my perception of reality, but in a different way than you describe. For me it just has to do with memories - I often have trouble figuring out if something was real or if I dreamed it.

I agree with everything IWIllBeLight said. Your problem is not the dreaming, you're just having a hard time finding your place in the world - believe it or not, this happens to most people your age at one point or another.


I think you put too much stock in your fellow man. You find it harder and harder to socialize with people because they are shallow and materialistic... But why are you trying to socialize with people who aren't worth your time? Is it because that's what your peers expect you to do, and you're a "loser" if you don't have a group of people to hang out with on Friday nights?

There's nothing wrong with being alone most of the time (and since you still live at home and go to school 5 days a week you will never really be alone for an extended period of time anyways). I realized towards the end of my college career that I'd rather just be alone 95% of the time. It's not that I'm totally against social interaction (I waste so much time on forums like this!), but I just find the majority of people painfully dull and don't bother with them.

You may just be a bit more mature than your peers, and that can certainly be difficult.

After over 15 years of lucid dreaming, I think reality is a dream. I really do.

Sometimes i prefer dreaming than reality....

It changed my way of thinking a little....

It touched my way of view the reality....

Mostly it's when I wake up in darkness, that I wonder if it's an FA or not. I daydreamed a lot as a kid. When I was your age, I had a lot of friends in their twenties, because I couldn't relate to my tv-brainwashed peers.

I actually went through a period of three years with no friends. Whatever. When you get older, your friends are based on where you work, and similar interests, and not so much regional. So, that's something to look forward to.

Think about how temporary and illusory high school itself is. When I look back on it (I graduated in '94), it seems like a dream in my memory. I am friends with only three people from high school, and it's fine. Most of those people are shallow and materialistic still. It's our society, man.

When you realize how artificial high school is, it will get easier to deal with.

Also, I have recently realized money itself is an illusion, because it's only an idea we collectively agree upon. Materialistic people want to amass illusion (money), to trade it for manifestations of each others' imaginations (stuff). But, you're really just playing with someone else's imagination anyway when you are playing or using or wearing that "new" thing you just bought.

So, in the sense that you realize how materialistic and shallow they are, you are waking up. You have a better grasp on reality than they. Reality is genuine human interaction. Reality is the stuff that keeps us alive; air, water, food, heat (clothing, shelter, fire).

It's okay to daydream to escape from "reality". You are just escaping an illusion that is being forced upon you by our society. I know it's depressing to come back to "reality" sometimes after a daydream, or a pleasant dream at night. But, this lifetime itself will one day seem like a dream when we look back on it.

Realize you have the power to change your own reality to a certain degree, just like in lucid dreaming.

If you feel yourself floating away during the day, and you need to come back to earth, ground yourself. Visualize roots growing down into the earth out of your feet, and energy coming up into your body. Stand up and sit up straight.

I know high school can be lonely if you're not a jock or a hot chick. but you know what man? A lot of those people from my high school feel hollow inside because they are still chasing after illusion. Screw them, dude. You don't need them.

Your dream people, that is you. It's you loving yourself, and that's a good thing. You can PM me if you want to talk more. I felt exactly like you in high school!

@ Waking Nomad, I love you and the way you reply to people. :), it's heart filled, I had a friend tell me to do the exact same advice you give for "grounding", also to take the praying baby posistion, and to touch my head to the ground. Blessings.

yeah, i have thought high school to be fake for a long time now, everything seems so contrived. Its almost as if they teach you to be stupid. thanks for the advice about "grounding" aswell. il try that out

I question everything around me a lot more latley. Like, people for the most part. I just think everyone is fake. I tend to think this i think because of my DC's in my lucids but who knows.
