What do you do when you haven't had lucid dreams in a really long time and you can't no matter what? O_o
Step 1. Make sure you are continuing to keep a journal of your dreams. The better you keep one, the liklier you will remember that you are lucid in a dream, (and the likelier it is you won't forget a lucid dream period.)
Step 2. Read alot on lucid dreaming. Daydream about lucid dreams. Get it on your mind and re-capture the magic of it all.
Step 3. Try the techniques that have worked for you before. Why shouldn't they work again? Sometimes, LDing just neds a little work.
Step 4. Attempt totally new and unique lucid approaches. You won't ever know if it works for you unless you've tried it.
That's what I do during a dry spell. Anything in particular you are having trouble with, or is this mroe hypothetical?
Yea, that pretty much says it all. The only addition to that is that you somehow need to find a way to motivate yourself. Find a real interest in the subject of lucid dreaming. Maybe do a bit of research and try to find something really strange/interesting. Maybe a fact about lucid dreaming, or someone's lucid experiences. All these things help you really want to do it. And the more you want to do it, the more likely it is that you will achieve lucidity. The same goes for any skill/hobby.
At the moment, I have been thinking about trying to sleep walk consciously, It is an interesting idea I thought of in school today when I was half asleep. I really want to look into it, and test it out etc.
If you are interested in this idea/thought, here is a thread I made.
I always look at myself and make sure that I'm not tryint "too" hard to LD. If you try too hard and begin to get discouraged it can extend your dry spell. I always relaxed before bed and convinced myself that I would surely have an LD. I changed my mindset to "expecting to have an LD" rather than trying to have one. Think of yourself as the best LDer the world has ever saw and expect to have LDs every night. By doing this, I have come out of many dry spells. Mind over matter!
Awesome guys! Thanks a bunch! Yeah, I was actually slacking with my dream journal since school started, so that might have been a contributing problem. I did have sort of a lucid dream last night, but I think it was more half-lucid 'cause no matter what I tried to think I couldn't make anything happen like I wanted it too. Sad day =( But at least it's progress!!
Huh. I never thought of expecting it to happen. That sounds like a really good idea! I'm pretty good at telling myself I'm the best at something so I'll definitely have to try that. ;p
