Can you experience SP/vibrations within a MILD attempt?

I did WBTB last night, then affirmations as I went back to sleep (as in MILD). It was quite a struggle to get back to sleep. I was kind of half-dreaming about playing a computer game when suddenly vibrations hit. How to explain the vibrations? You know how a short flag can sometimes get caught by the wind and vibrate very quickly and make a funny buzzing noise? Or you put some grass between your two thumbs and blow to make a buzz? This covered my whole body.

I remember in a strange half-asleep state telling myself, "Stay calm, it's SP and no big deal". It was over quickly. Next thing I knew, my girlfriend came in the room and said, "It's time to get up". Wise to the tricks of the mind, I kind of tried to make an "X Factor" sign with my two hands and was chuffed when one hand passed straight through the other! So I knew this was a FA and got up to explore.

So, is experiencing SP onset in a MILD a common thing? I'm guessing that this makes my attempt a partial WILD, too?

I think so. It depends how still you hold. I've done a MILD where I haven't moved a muscle, and sleep paralysis set in soon. Couldn't stand the feeling of it, though. :P

You may have had some sort of MILD/WILD hybrid. While you were mantra-ing, or whatever, you probably had the onset of HH. Just a thought.

From what I know, MILDs aren't supposed to be like that. As in, you shouldn't worry about not moving and stuff like that, you're just supposed to fall asleep normally while drilling that mantra into your head, and when you feel you're done, just sleep. Most people say to make sure your last thought is about MILD, but that can be tough, cuz when you're seeing HI, it can be a bunch of random thoughts and crap, which is totally normal. You just got to make sure your last CONCIOUS thought is your mantra, and not worry about other things like school and work.

But hey, whatever works right? If you got vibrations and entered the dream, I assume that's a much better accomplishment.

Sleep Paralysis is just when your body paralyzes itself outside of the REM Cycle. The feeling of vibrations is a form of Hypnagogic Hallucination (or Hypnopompic, if you are waking up). Hypnagogic Hallucinations occur when your mind is falling asleep. It's trying to determine what is reality and what are dreams (whereas hypnopompic is your brain determining what is dreams and what is reality).

These types of hallcuniations will more than likely occur every night you go to sleep, it may just not be noticable.

So to answer your question, I would say yes, it's common for anything you do.

That's pretty common. It sounds like you got lucky, and had your MILD turn into a WILD. Good work keeping yourself from being fooled by your FA. Tricky, tricky brain.

MILD works by building up your ability to remember to ask yourself if you're dreaming. During a non-lucid dream.
Thus, it's a DILD method.

One way to strengthen your ability to remember is to visualize your past dreams and practice recognizing dreamsigns and reality checking (mnemonic, MILD)

One way to increase your chance of lucid dreaming is to WBTB.

One way to 'get into SP' is to lay in bed and keep your mind awake while your body falls asleep.

One way to enter a lucid dream is to VILD.

If you just woke up from a dream, remembering/recording it helps you to DILD, and this is of course a great time to do those practice visualizations. However, this visualizing in the middle of the night isn't the essence of the MILD exercise (visualizing to help you memorize is, but not necessarily in the middle of the night with the intention for it to turn into a WILD). These are just a way to help set your intention to remember.

If you happen to fall asleep while doing these visualizations and you enter a dream, you will have just VILDed. Unless you tried to move at some point while still awake and were incapable of movement, you cannot know whether or not you were in SP.

If you happen to end up in SP, you have just ended up in SP.

If you fall asleep, and in the middle of a nonlucid dream you remembered to RC to a dreamsign or to question things around you, you have just MILDed.

So: One doesn't attempt to MILD in the way that one actively attempts to WILD. Attempting a MILD means putting in effort to try to form that memory, that mental connection, and then going to sleep. If you end up in SP while laying in bed visualizing for your MILD, it is the same as if you had gotten into SP while attempting a VILD or if you were laying in bed thinking and ended up in SP, or were laying in bed and ended up in SP.

Obviously, waking up from a dream, recording it in your dg, going over missed dreamsign opportunities, getting in bed, composing your body in an attempt to get into SP, and then visualizing your past dream in order to set your intention and also VILD is the ideal way to go about this. If you're really lucky, you'll slip straight into a VILD. If you're almost that lucky, you'll find yourself in SP and have to 'manually' will yourself to transition into a dream. If you're lucky and your hard work pays off, you'll fall asleep normally but will realize in the midst of your next dream that you're dreaming and thus have a MILD. And if you're unlucky, you will just snooze the night away.
But yea. Combine techniques and go all out.
