Did I just sunbconsciously advertise to myself?

A vivid dream I had this morning included a small portion in which I have a detailed dialog with a DC about a promotional menu item at Taco Bell. And today, as I type and breathe, I am digesting the very same food. Is this a simple playing out of a subconscious desire, or do you think there's something more to this?

I think advertisments (in real life) run deeper than we might think.

I think you're right. This thread reminds me of a dream I had when I was but wee (9 or 10). There were these commercials on at the time for Heinz ketchup where a guy was eating something and got some ketchup on his finger and the narrator was like "Be careful, it might be too good" or something.

Later, I remember having this dream where I got ketchup on my finger , WITH the same narrator in the background. I then re awoke to an intense pain. Because of this dream, I had taken my finger, put it in my mouth, and bit it as hard as I could. My right index finger still shows the damage well over a decade later...

You just watch, someday they'll figure out how to advertise in our dreams, and you'll see like 20-30 pepsi dreams in the DJ section every day.

You bit your finger hard enough that it still shows? o.0 That's insane... maybe you should sue Heinz.

The Cusp: That will be a sad, sad day. It would probably be made illegal though, like those advertisements that flash for one frame while you're watching a movie so you subconsciously want whatever's being advertised...

"So son what did you dream about last night?""i learned how to put on a condom!"
or for girls "I learned how to insert a tampon!"

Commercials don't discriminate based on gender. Just because the person watching TV is a guy doesn't mean they won't show tampon commercials. Why a guy would ever need to know how to put in a tampon, I don't know, but...

That would be a glorious day. The day when Pepsi finally beats Coca Cola!

      Pepsi FTW!

Oh come now...Pepsi is far too sweet, it doesn't take its role very seriously. And on top of that, if you drink it the wrong way, you're more than likely gonna blow your head off due to a ridiculous amount of C02. But to each his own.

      I think I just made this a Coke v. Pepsi thread....shit.

      Stay on topic...

I agree, ads probably do run farther than we think.

Do you guys think this is merely an unintended coincidence, or could there be something far more sinister lurking deep in the midst of companies' advertising division?

Personally I don't believe there's much more to it than simply advertising. I'd like to believe there was more to it, but most advertisement teams are just guys spinning ideas off each other, nothing psychological. But to be honest I may have a naive look on it as I tend to question most advertising, and how it was produced so I've never really had it affect me that bad.

I think if adverts were played in dreams a lot of people would be buying into things to stop it, lets face it most of the time the media can do what they want and get away with it, so it wouldn't surprise me if it did happen that's of course if it was actually possible Ooh idea for TV ad blocker

I thinkt he ads are innocent enough most times, it's just that our minds percieve the whole vibe and atmosphere of any ad and apply it to our own tastes and culture, and if it's significant to us, the atmosphere of the ad could easily imprint itself into your head.
      good times

Actually, my sister was studying psychology in school and a lot of her classmates were planning on going into advertising. Ad firms want people who know how to get messages across and they will use those with a knowledge of psychology to do it.

You know, subconsciously, that Pepsi is better. The blue revolution will be soon. *maniacal laugh*

You walk down the road. You see grass. You dream at night of grass. Is that advertisement? No, it's just your brain making a salad of the things that you've seen.

I believe that the ads are harmless. They are "diabolically engineered" to get your attention, not alter the quality of their product.

Lol yeah, I was thinking more just for actual TV sets (lets face it there's still a lot of people who barely know how to use a computer) I then thought about it and decided it wasn't worth the time lol

I have to say in my class for Psychology at A-level there weren't a great deal of people who were interested in advertising let alone people that were particularly bright (it seen as a bit of a cool/doss subject at my old school) so i guess I just assumed wrong ^_^ anyhow I realise my comment is probably void and that advertising personnel tend to have backgrounds in communication studies, psychology etc. anyway. I still believe that most psychology doesn't apply across the board anyway, everyone's different.

P.S Pepsi has always been better =D (carbonated drinks are meant to be sweet Fattoxthegreat (hence sparkling water is pointless on it's own))
