Trouble whith (re)learning lucid dreaming

Hi guys.

Three years ago I became interested in dreams and sleep - mostly the biochemistry and stuff like that -- I'm not particularly interested in Freud and Jung (the coolest psychologist on the subject IMO is Medard Boss).

After reading one of Allan Hobsons books I was introduced to lucid dreaming (which was briefly mentioned in the book). After some google fu I found DV and started practicing reality checks and began to keep a dream journal. It was during the summer holidays so I had plenty of time each morning to write and I had plenty of sleep.

But when school started I felt I didn't have enough time to keep a dream journal and stopped doing reality checks. I have had 40+ lucid dreams I can remember - most of them quite short - so I know the feeling.


In may I recovered my interest in dreams wanting to use it for more than "just fun" - like getting inspiration for my music. Since then I have worked hard and I have approximately 90 entries in my dream journal (which I am happy about) and I try to write every day even though I have to get up early.
But I have trouble getting lucid (no prob with recall). I have had one WILD (dream-reentry technique) which was awesome but besides that I have had only about 4 and every time the thing that convinced me that I was dreaming was that the dream was ending and everything fading.
I do RC's and I try not just to make them routines but to consider the situation every time.
The only problem I have with the RC's is that I forget to do them when I am really concentrated or deeply involved in a conversation...

Can you think of any other possibilities why I am failing?

Hmm Im actually a newb at this but may I suggest writing an A or another letter on your hand and then every time you see it do a Reality Check?

Good idea... That would probably help me doing rc's more often...

This might not be expert advice, but its my input. I posted this in another thread.

Might I suggest that you work on MILD, DILD, WILD (when you get the chance), and DEILD (once again, when you get the chance), using a combination of all of these will help you get lucid faster, because you can figure out which ones produce better results.

School is a very common LD killer, lol. Try to remain confident, remember, any doubts or frustrations can keep you from becoming lucid. Just keep working at it, you may be in a semi-dry spell, its very common.

I actually use the letter on my hand technique that Mancon spoke of as well. It works well for me. You could try it for a while.

I have a method I like to use for ending dry spells or becoming lucid in general. Try this: Just before going to bed, attempt to change your whole state of mind. Its a bit like acting (getting into character). Think to yourself, "I am the best lucid dreamer in the world. Nothing will stop me from becoming lucid tonight. It is so easy for me." Don't only think these thoughts, truly make yourself believe them. Fall asleep expecting to become lucid. Fall asleep knowing that you will easily have a lucid dream tonight. Try it for a few days. Remember don't get discouraged or doubt yourself. Stay positive. Good Luck to you!

Thanks :) I'm going to try out both the letter on the hand thing and your "acting" idea... I have had success with confidence before and at least I'm not losing my motivation since I like normal dreams so much too :)

Only problem with MILDs and WILDs is that I often sleep with my girlfriend and I don't want to wake her up with the alarm clock.
It would be cool though to work with one of the techniques... I have had one MILD so I think it is learnable.

Is there any difference on DEILD and the Dream Re-Entry Technique?
