Had my third vivid LD - false awakening?

I took a nap at approximately 4:15 today, hoping to WILD, but I fell asleep before I could feel any signs of SP or get any HI. I was counting (1, I am dreaming, etc) but then my mind wandered and I fell asleep before anything could happen.

I became lucid in my dream nearly immediately, though. I was in a tennis court and I even did three reality checks for fun - I tried to put my hand through my other palm, but it didn't go through, so I just tried with one finger, and it did. It was pretty vivid, and my dream didn't even require any stabilization or clarity improvement. I also looked in a mirror, fully aware of the possibility of being disturbed of what I may see, and saw myself normally. I also looked at my hands - both had six fingers. =P I also closed my eyes for a second and imagined myself in my school, and it worked. I also turned around, expecting to see three of my friends coming around the corner, and I saw them. I even remember what they were wearing! Must have been the apple juice I drank that night...

The only problem is, at the end of the dream (which was pretty darn long, by the way), I saw a soft white light and I said to myself, "aw, the dream's ending?"
I was swallowed up and I found myself in bed, lights off, etc. I tried to DEILD by staying still, but then something wierd happened - I got sleep paralysis, almost a tingly feeling, and then suddenly my body jerked into a position 90 degrees to the left, and then jerked another 90 degrees seconds later, as if I was having a bunch of really crazy hypgognic jerks. Then I thought, "ugh, what's going on?"

Then I really woke up. I made sure by doing a reality check.


I'm not sure if this was some whacked-out form of WILD, or just a coincidence. Any advice or explanations for this?

yup sounds like a false awakening. Soft white lights don't cause dreams to end- your expectation that it will end the dream led to the false awakening since it mirrored what you were thinking.

Makes sense. Would a mindset of 'I will still be lucid in the next dream' help, if I know my dream is going to end?

this is still unknown I think, but it definitely won't hurt. just yesterday I finally completed a dreamgoal where I told my subconsiousness (which appeared like me in a mirror) that I will have LD's every time I sleep (repeated it many times) - no idea if it will actually help

Didn't know that looking into self mirror character in a dream is a link to subconsciounsess! Often I get lucid just by looking myself in a mirror. Maybe next time I could try your dream goal. Does someone know whether that gain some lucidity?

Ugh, for christ's sakes. My DEILD failed last night, too!

A nice RC would be skeptically looking into a mirror and expecting yourself to be different (not warped, as this may turn your dream into a nightmare), but like a different person - your mom, perhaps? =P

If you do, you're dreaming. If not, then you're not dreaming.

For sure. I founded that's maybe one of most reliable RC, because everyone is most certain about exact self image.. :)

I don't usually see mirrors in my dream, though, so I'm a bit... err... unsure about adopting that RC as a part of my daily routine.
