Dreaming but RC's Failed?

OK last night I was in this awesome dream, not sure if it was lucid, I dont think it was....no it wasnt..but i still knew I was dreaming in the back of my mind...anyway..I woke up eventually but not in my house..I knew it felt weird and I wasnt home, so I did the plug nose RC and I couldnt breath while holding it...then I tried to put my hand thru a wall or door because i pretty much mastered that , and it was solid as a rock.....but when I woke up from that...I was really pissed off because it was a damn dream but the RC's failed......so my question is...how did this happen? or why did this happen? If I was dreaming and I had a idea I was and I RC'd but they failed...what gives? Usually when im dreaming and I discover that I am..and i RC...it always passes....so I am stumped...anyone?

Alot of times when you are on that "maybe i'm dreaming, maybe i'm not" fence, RCs can fail. I suggest trying a wider variety of RCs and also make sure you repeat these RCs several times. Many times a RC failed for me, but I repeated it and it worked. Even if you think you are dreaming, you can have the slightest doubt in the back of your mind that can cause a RC to fail. It is very common, so don't get discouraged. Good Luck to you!

Yeah man, that is frustrating.

Whenever you get a legit feeling of, 'Hey, I think I may be dreaming and should RC' you should be really persistent with proving to yourself that you are asleep. Very rarely will you actually question your state of consciousness while awake. Granted, we do RCs out of habit and try and convince ourselves that the RC is actually necessary, (so that we aren't just going through the motions with our reality checks,) it is still different.

I've had dreams where RCs have failed and I was like, 'Screw it, this is a friggin' dream anyway!' because if you are actually questioning your dream state and not making yourself RC and forcing the 'questioning' emotion onto yourself- you can bet that you are dreaming and at this point, for a number of people, the RC is more to boost your confidence than to give you lucidity.

One way to do an RC is to just attempt dream control. Even if it is just through auto suggestion or opening a door and willing something to be on the other side. If it succeeds- you've done an RC of sorts already!

I know it can be pretty frustrating to have failed reality checks. Just be more open to the concept of lucidity, and genuinely ask yourself if you are dreaming throughout the day.
