I told my friend about LDing, and he thinks it's a load of bullshit. How do I convince him otherwise?
Show him the studies by Stephen Laberge, readily available through a quick google search. The ones involving moving his eyes to cue lucidity.
You don't. He's close-minded, and if he won't accept any of the sources cited above, will never believe. Don't worry about it...some people are just a lot more accepting of it than others. :P
I don't understand why LDs seem impossible to people. I mean I don't see why anyone wouldn't believe they exist. It's not THAT difficult a feat. Some people just are kinda...slow I guess
After re-explaining it to him, and showing him Stephen LaBerge's research, he said it's not all that great. I tried to explain that you can't even say such a thing without trying it first.. and he still doesn't want to listen. I guess it's his loss. But eh.. can't talk to any of my irl friends about LDing :?
That's why we're here. :) Personally, I can't see what's not to like...literally, anything you want to do, you can. Nothing to lose...oh, well. There's just no convincing people sometimes.
Your friend is just a silly goose. LDs are not that great? Thats a laugh if I ever heard one! Nothing in real life even compares to the amazing freedom in a LD. I guess I'll have to agree, his EXTREME loss.
I told my friend one time and he said iv drank too much, so i gave up (trying to tell him, not drinking ;p).
Iv once asked one of my friends if hes had a dream where he can see himself in his bed, he said yea and i told him to read this website describing obe's and he didnt write me off as a crazy person.
Do not worry about it.
Tell your friend the most basic definition of lucid dreaming is "being aware you are dreaming while dreaming" & that many people around the world have practiced it for thousands of years.
A simple google search will show many links to information.
Sometimes convincing others of something REAL just falls on deaf ears.
oh, and maybe tell your friend to get his bullshit detector adjusted.
I went through the same shit. Ya know what I came up with?
Who cares what he thinks? Your LD's don't benefit anyone accept you. So what if no one else believes you? You know it's real. Thats what matters.
I don't hold it against them though.
Hell, if I hadn't experienced it for myself. I wouldn't have believed it either.
It's one of those things that makes you want to laugh and cry at the same time.
One of my favorite quotes: One convinced against their will is of the same opinion still.
You can't convince anyone of anything. It's a good life lesson. All you can do is show someone information, and let them decide for themselves. I have told a lot of my waking life friends about my dreams. They get excited and say they are going to make an account on DV. Two out of about 15 people that said they were going to do it, have actually made an account.
Neither of them have started a DJ...:?
I would love to share the beauty of dreams with them, but there's nothing I can do. Some people just aren't ready for it. I actually came to DV about a year and a half ago. I said, "Psh. Lucid dreaming? I do that all the time." I didn't even know about WILD's.
It's amazing how many people lack the willpower. You so much as utter the word "effort" or "long-term rewards," and people instantly tune you out. :P Is America seriously this lazy, that even the opportunity to live out your wildest fantasies isn't worth a few minutes of your time every day? Sad...
