My first taste of Lucidity!!

Last night I officially had my first lucid (or at least semi-lucid) dream. YAY!:D

Although, something odd happened. In my dream, I was In a piano lounge at my school, hanging out with my friends and Rob Schneider (no idea why... I don't particularly like him or his movies:? ) somehow the topic of conversation happened on lucid dreams. As soon as the phrase was uttered, it smacked me like a ton of bricks. I was struck by the realization that I was dreaming.

As soon as I realized this, things became chaotic around me. My dream friends tried, almost violently, to change the subject, to get me to focus on something else. I refused to listen, too excited by the epiphany. But the more I resisted, the more aggressive they became, shouting and screaming, grabbing at my arms, attempting to get my attention. When I tried to get away, I couldn't move my limbs, as though I was paralyzed.

Then I was overcome by the sensation that i was falling. I thought I was going to fall through the couch, through the world and into nothingness, because technically the couch didn't exist. Being afraid of falling, I remembered I was in a dream and tried to will myself out of the situation. However, maybe I mixed up my intentions because instead of leaving to a new area of my dream, I willed myself awake. I couldn't move for a moment, struck by the realization that I just had my first Lucid (although not controlled) dream.

I don't understand. What happened? Why did my dream rebel against me so violently? I certainly expected it to be more.... serene. Does anyone have any insight into the problem?

At any rate though, i'm proud that I've taken my first steps into lucidity. And granted that it wasn't intentional, I'm proud of myself.


Unfortunately, i've now reached an impasse. Now that I've had my first lucid dream, I'm unsure what to do next. Do I ignore it and continue to improve my dream recall? Do I try to induce another dream intentionally? And if I can, what do I do if my mind tries to eject me from the dream again?

Even though it was a bit odd and not necessarily controlled, it was still a lucid. I don't know why your DC's were so adamant about you remaining unaware...odd. But hell, Congrats! I've yet to get there.

To be honest with you, it scared the crap out of me. I also disticntly remember being aware that my real body was in sleep paralysis, which also scared me.

Wow, that's really strange! Unfortunately I've nothing to offer in the way of explanation. But nevertheless, congratulations on having your first lucid! Look at it this way, at least you didn't wake up immediately like I did.

In the few lucids I've had, I've also been strangely aware of my body as well, which has caused me to wake up sooner than I'd have liked. I'm hoping this will taper off as I become more experienced with my dream control.

I'd say definitely keep trying, though. What do you have to lose?

Nothing, I just don't know how to proceed. I'm also kind of freaked about my DC's reaction to my lucidity. I wish i could be adopted, but there's no one adopting right now, So i'll have to power through on my own for now...

Maybe I'm not ready for a lucid dream? O.o

This happens to many people. DCs seem to not want you to be lucid and do everything possible to distract you. Next time, try to make them dissappear or do something to make them stop. The more you try, the more likely they are to go away.

Lol I know but darnit, they were violent! I'm not sure why. what should I do to make them stop? Cause clearly willing myself away didn't work out too well. Or maybe I did it wrong?

Also, How should I proceed now? What's my next step in the path to lucidity?

Congratualtions on your first lucid and your DC's can sometimes get angry about you being lucid but it doesn't happen much

I don't get it though. My DCs are an extension of my mind trying to entertain me during the dreams. Why would I get mad at me for being lucid? Thinking about it like that makes me feel Schizophrenic ><

Maybe I'm missing something integral? Something I'm simply not understanding about DCs because the more I think about it, the more confused I get ><

This is why its happening. The more you think about your DCs not wanting you lucid, the more often it will become. Take your mind off of it, make it the least of your worries for LDing, and its most likely to go away

There isn't anything wrong with you, it's like your subconscious has different moods because 1 time all my DC's went ballistic at me telling me this is real but sometimes they remind me i'm dreaming and one time even told me that I was when I didn't know.

You think so? So Maybe I'm bringing it on myself then...

Oh! I had another lucid dream last night! It only lasted about a minute or so, but this time my DC didn't freak out at me. He only tried to gain my attention, but not as violent as last time. But I managed to get a reality check off, the digital clock reality check (although the fact that i had a digital alarm desk clock strapped to my arm should have been clue enough:? )

It worked, but then I tried to concentrate on staying lucid, and not listening to my DC, but in that moment, the room shook a little, like it was on a roller coaster track, and the DC used the distraction to gain my attention. I forgot my lucidity for a quick moment before willing my body awake (sort of a "if i'm going down i'm taking you with me" thing :D )

Anyways, I'm not sure how I would go about controlling my DCs. It's usually a random person, or (sadly) an ex of mine. How do you control or get rid of your DCs?

I am definitly not a guru. I've had only one LD :D Most of my answers come from reading other people's experience. I could probably only tell you what it feels like to have a 3 second LD :P

Anyways, it sounds like a problem with dream control. I would advise you start with something like running away from them when they start yelling. If you can't get away that way, try spinning to change the dream scene. Once you have improved dream control, try forcing them to go away. Once you can "defeat" them, they usually don't come back. I actually can give advice on dream control, because I have many dreams where I am in complete control of the dream, just without being aware I am dreaming.

Just to solve the problem where you can feel your body in bed if you had that the other time as well, there are techniques to get rid of that, here is the tutorial.

I think that if you carry on getting lucid then your dream characters will start being more ok with it.

You could try repeating "I am dreaming" to yourself if they try to stop you and shift your attention away from them completely for a few moments untill they disappear or just quickly punch them into a wall :P

Oh, and I actually use the hand rubbing technique in that tutorial to enter a WILD when I'm having HI.

Seriously I understand your frustration. It's odd how a dream, a product of your own mind, can make you believe that you are subject to it's will, rather than the other way around.

My big problem has always been staying asleep. I've worked on it, and I've worked on it & it keeps happening over and over again & it aggravates the hell out of me.

practice, practice, practice. I don't know what else to tell you.
It's really cool though, isn't it?

Here's a tip:
whenever I feel an like LD is getting away from me I've found it helps to say, out loud, "I am God here" This really helps me to confirm that this my dream, nothing can touch me here, Rob Schneider, you're a douche bag, and you're on fire now, & lets all go ride dune buggies.

I had a similar case where upon realization that I'm dreaming via pointing out that my brother had 6 fingers, things got violent and I had to jump out the window..

I think it was the first semi-lucid dream I had.

So, next time I should change dream-scene immediately? like spin?

If you are desperate to get away, yes. But be aware that sometimes spinning causes people to lose lucidity. If you are good at dream control, try to control the situation yourself.

My dream characters also became violent when I became lucid during my second dream. I fought back and destroyed them all but then I was so excited I woke up. Anybody will tell you...remain calm. I don't have much input here maybe someone else can help.

Next step could be both improving dream recall and trying to induce lucidity of course. Good luck.
