How did you discover Lucid Dreaming?

I first learned about LDs when an old friend was telling me years ago about it. (edgewizz7) I really wanted to try it, but didn't know how. for a couple years I forgot about the whole thing, then one day I was stoned and up late at night watching tv and a movie came on called "Waking Life" (many of you are familiar with this movie) And it was an awesome experience, just watching it alone, stoned, late at night. After that I eventually had a couple LDs, but they were short and certainly not vivid. I found it very difficult to see, to move, and simple things like that. I'm sure that was because of the cannabis. Anyway, here I am, having found DV on google, having given up cannabis 4 years ago, and having regular LDs. The last was the other night - I was on the run from the FBI after robbing a bank and i fell off a train and they found me and I used 'the force' to push them away :)

So how did you guys first hear/learn about Lucid dreaming? Were you interested in dreams before you did? How has it affected your life?

I was watching a video about the life of an INTJ by a woman named Des when she said she's started learning lucid dreaming. I then somehow felt that this would become very important to me, so I googled it and found this site.

I was looking into hypnosis (inspired by the Mythbusters and my IP relations professor) in an effort to hypnotize my sister just for fun, when I somehow stumbled upon lucid dreaming. I then recalled a documentary about lucid dreaming, and decided to do a bit more digging. I liked what I saw, and here I am. :D

I doing some research about Theta Wave and their reaction with the brains and stubbles upon this website. And I remembered my friend saying he was able to control his dreams and was amazed I could actually LEARN to do it!

I was intruduced to it on another forum. We had a "Nightmare/Bad Dream" Thread going and these guys were talking about Lucids...

I asked what they were on about and Eagle, who you all know as Dairyman here informed me. I was intriuged. He later linked me to his DJ, and then that got me started here. :banana:

When I was in high school and first learned about dreaming in psych class, it occurred to me that being able to control my dreams would be really cool. One day, while I was rather interested in my dreams, I spontaneously realized I was in a dream, but immediately woke up upon that realization. About a year later, as a college freshman, at which point I think I'd heard of lucid dreaming proper (probably from a documentary video about dreams I'd gotten as a gift), I had my first stable LD, a WILD, after a long night of astronomy. Within about another year of that I bought LaBerge's book and kept dream journals and all that jazz. Since then it's been a hobby I pick back up every now and then to varying degrees of intensity. Every once in a while since I first developed the hobby I've also had very rare spontaneous LD's when I wasn't actively cultivating them.

I actually had a LD first before I knew what it was. When I was a teenager, I had a really intense dream that I had supernatural abilities, and the CIA were chasing me. Near the end of the dream, they shot my dad on our lawn outside my house. I remember thinking I didn't want to see this plot through, I didn't want this to happen or deal with it, and it was like the scene rewound and I thought, "Oh wow, this is a dream!" and told my dad to get inside the house.

That dream prompted me to keep a dream journal, ever since then. I tried doing some research on the internet and found that dream control has a name, but I couldn't really find much else about it (this was about 12 or so years ago).

I'd sporadically had LD's since then, but never had very much control over them. Mostly just that I knew I was dreaming. Sometimes I only had enough control to make plot choice changes or scene changes. Sometimes I had enough control to activate certain abilities (like one dream I was in someone's house, and I didn't want to get caught, so I levitated), sometimes I had total control to stop the dream plot and do something cool like flying, only, I wouldn't get very far with that. I could get up there, and I kept getting dragged back down, while in flight.

I found DV through a google search too when I wanted to learn if I could have more control of lucidity.

Isn't it amazing how rapidly information is continuing to expand on the internet? only 12 years ago there wasn't a great deal on the internet, now look at it! There's even multiple fricken forums just for Lucid Dreams! :D

I was clicking "random page" on Wikipedia and got pretty excited about it. At the evening, I've read through the half of Dreamviews :D Got first half-lucid that night and real lucid the next day. :)

When I was a kid I told some people about my dreams and they looked at me wonky, I was like what you dont dream like that?

Years later I was doing some research into dreams, to understand why I dreamed the way I did and I came across lucid dreaming. Round 2000 or so I came across DV it was one of two forums on the web regarding lucid dreaming.

I was browsing a bit on Wikipedia about psychedelic drugs and such and I came on the term psychonaut, someone who is researching himself, his brain, his thoughts through various methods (I now regard myself as one) and on that page there was also a heading about lucid dreaming and I became very interested and ended up here, but I already was keeping some sort of DJ.

back in1st grade like 15 years ago and I thought It would be fun to learn but as kid I ended up waiting till i was like 17 senior year when I sleep through half my classes and say Hell I screwed up school by not putting any effort into school since after kindergarten and doing no homework in my life and I showed them I could have graduated valedictorian rather than come out of school with a 3.1 ( would have been 3.6 if i didn't sleep) g.p.a and only showing I have genius level I.q. which made me think of the lucid dream I had making me think to myself It would be nice to gain control of my dreams and do what I want to do.

I just did it. At first it just happend, I knew I was dreaming and could do whatever I wanted. When I told people about my dreams they always acted as if it was weird to remember so much of my dreams and to be able to control them. Later I tried going from the waking state to the lucid state. It wasn't until years later I discovered it had a name.

I was trying to find ways to get hallucinations and I saw somebody say about lucid dreaming and decided it sounded a lot cooler and healthier, that guy probably saved me from a life of being a druggy ^^

EDIT - That or I was just googling how to control dreams as I found out about a year ago that whatever I think about during the day a lot or just before I go to sleep is usually what I dream about.

Actually, the second option is the most likely way that I learned about lucid dreams but I saw the words lucid dreaming in the first option.

About 3 years ago, my drummer in my old band and I would chill all the time and talk about spiritual stuff, drugs, the universe, ya know, the usual things freshman psychonaughts talk about. We started experimenting with ethnobotanicals and obscure psychoactives, when one day he called me up and was like "dude do u know what lucid dreaming is? We must learn how!" I wasn't excited or anything cause when he described it it didn't sound nearly as cool as astral projection and obes. I did more research about it then became obsessed. 3 years later I am having lucids almost naturally at 8 per month, while he has only had 1 in a 3 year span. We don't keep close in contact anymore due to the law, but if it wasn't for him, I would be a closed minded ignorant bastard, he's showed me a lot and I thank him for that.

My mum told me about them years ago she learned them from a friend.

I was browzing the ZDoom forums, when I came across a thread (no longer exists) in the off-topic section where someone was talking about how they had been lucid dreaming recently. After reading thhrough the thread, I became very intewrested, and found my way here and a few days later to DV.

Well, I had my first LD three years ago, I just wanted to start looking around, and I was just like "Ok...". Break 2 years, then about last Feb. or March, I had another and another, till I had like 7 I believe...though I don't totally remember. Keep in mind I didn't know the name of them at this point.

Then, I was very interested in what I could do in these LDs...I think that before I came onto DV I used a dream dictionary, though I am not into that part of dreaming anymore. I think that I may have looked up "dreaming that you know you're dreaming", and found that the term for it was LDing. At some point I checked out a book by Labernge, the history of LDing. I saw that on this site, read the main stuff on the main page, which helped me a lot. I was impressed, so I joined the site.

i learnt how to naturally :) from nightmares when i was younger then a few months ago after asking a lot of people if they can control dreams they all said no and looked puzzled so i thought id google it and ended up here ..

i first heard about lucid dreaming after seeing this video

it starts talking about ld's after 5 mins in. its part of a series about the human body, actually a good series. anyway the way the video explained it, i thought that you needed the Novadreamer to have ld's. so i forgot about it for a while. then i think last summer or before, i had a spontaneous ld. then i thought "wait a minute, you dont need the Novadreamer!". so i looked up lucid dreaming in google and here i am! and yea Stephen Laberge is in the video, i thought yall might like that.:)

I started when i was real young, it came almost natural. It all began because i've always had and still do have this giant yearning to fly, and in my dreams i began to fly. Funny thing though is that when i started i would flap my arms to fly lmao! i eventually started to think to myself (outside the dream realm) that flapping my arms to fly is rediculouse(dono why since it's a dream and i could blink to fly if i wanted lol) so i promised myself on my next flight dream i would do it the right way. Now i fly atleast once a week unless it's been a stressful week. My father was never in my life but he had left this box of his stuff and in it was The Art of Dreaming by Carlos Castaneda and with that and my interest i devoted my life to become an ascended being. I began practicing gaining control throughout school and never spoke to anyone about it as i live in a little hick town that thinks anyone who doesn't go to church EVERY sunday is a devil worshipper... anyways i went to the military after high school and met a man than is a very well known magician and is part of the brotherhood of magicians. He taught me how to have OBE's and about The Secret and about energy beings in general (i will be sharing this very soon) and i was discharged from the military from what they said was anxiety, i came home and ran into my best friend and he was in a bad position in his life and i began teaching him about LD and OBE's and helped to open is mind. That's the point when i realized this is a way of life for me.

Through a nightmare! Became lucid on the nightmare, so started from there. Though if you mean the formal name, a few years ago in another forum, thread about dreams, I mentioned a dream, someone said you can't control your dreams and that it was BS and only the nuts think it can be done, someone said it was LD and linked to laberge in wikipedia. Didn't care for the name though, only read the description and hurried to join a LD site <.<

Well, no one ever told me that it's possible to control your dreams. About 4 months ago, I had my very first (vivid) lucid dream. My brother told me the house was going to explode.

And I said 'that's odd...'
I took a look around myself, and thought alot of things were off.

'THis is a dream.'

And I took complete control, like a pro:)
About a month later I searched 'Can you control your dreams?' because I wanted to know if anyone else could do it. And I found this place.

And just a few days ago I decided to join. (I would'ce gotten into it sooner, but algebra is kicking my ass:( )

I had a lucid dream shortly after discovering this site,

and immediately realized that it was going to become something very important in my life.

Idk..though after having sleep paralysis for the first time I became interested in dreaming and other things that I never thought I would as before then dreams meant nothing to me and I would have thought of controlling dreams as impossible like it never existed.

I've had lucid dreams since I was a child. I had my first one when I was in elementary school. I dreamed that a spider cut my fingers in half, so I had ten fingers on each hand. But somehow I realized that it was a dream and that there was nothing to be afraid of. Unfortunately, I woke up then and looked at my fingers, only to discover that my fingers were still cut in half - eerie false awakening!

I've had spontaneous lucids ever since, most of them starting as nightmares. Later I got really interested in dream interpretation and started to keep a dream journal. I had lucids pretty regular then. When I began reading about dream interpretation, I finally came across a book that explained these strange, conscious dreams and I learned about lucid dreaming.

Well, I'm still into dream interpretation and lucid dreaming, though it's more like a hobby that comes and goes, depending on how much time I have. I stumbled on this forum when I was looking for some info on WILD and how to do it. I finally managed to have one, thanks to your neat tutorials :D

I was playing through a song in StepMania called "Lucid Rhythms," and didn't know what the word lucid meant. So I looked it up on Wikipedia, and one of the search results was 'Lucid Dreaming.' I read the page, was absolutely fascinated, did a quick web search on lucid dreaming, and now I'm here. Sometimes having a crappy vocabulary can be a good thing... :D

I am a cybernaut. I travel the Internet looking for phenomena (videos, memes, threads, etc) that contain win, fail, lulz, or other notable qualities. I tend to go off on extremely random expeditions into the depths of the Web just to see what I can learn about whatever I happen to be thinking about at the time, and whatever else happens to catch my eye along the way.

About a year ago, I was on one of my random Googling sprees and, well, one link led to another, and somehow I ended up on Dreamviews. I read through the homepage and found some basic information on lucid dreaming. Intrigued, I delved deeper into the site and found the forum (which, by the way, contains large quantities of win :)). After a bit of reading, I went from "Fascinating, Captain" to "HOLY SHIT I must learn to do this!!"

I must say that of all the phenomena I've found in the wonderful world of the Internets, lucid dreaming has been one of the most influential. I finally had my first LD a few weeks ago, and after that experience there's no way I'm giving up on it. I have cerebral palsy which limits the strength and range of motion in my legs, and the opportunity to use LDing to do everything my disability prevents me from doing in real life (and more!) is just too good to pass up. Also, I'm designing a PC game, and dreams (especially lucid ones) are great ways to come up with ideas! :D

I was a kid when I started lucid dreaming and didn't know there was even a word for it. Thought everyone did it! I found a book as a teen, and began to learn all about it, how to work it etc. Oddly, after a lifetime of dreaming and remembering them every night, I stopped dreaming once I was several months pregnant. Totally stopped! My son is now 3 and until recently I wouldn't remember much; no flying, which was really disappointing more than anything. I recently started using some lavender oil to help me sleep and found I was able to remember my dreams AND do some lucid dreaming once again.

A few months ago I was randomly browsing on Google and thought I would type in 'psychology' and see what came up. One of the results was about dream psychology, which I thought sounded interesting. I looked up 'dream psychology' in Google and of course lucid dreaming was one of the topics. I read the basic description of it and thought it sounded really cool. I researched further into it, taking in more and more information about it until it became important to me. I started my own dream journal and eventually found this site. :banana:

A guy told me about it on MSN.

Google suggests weird things and it suggested lucid dreaming to me so i clicked it because i had nothing better to do.

i had an accidental LD and looked up how to control your dreams on Google.

I was first given a taste of it because of a female witch DC. I was hunting her in a normal dream but she killed my friend and was throwing lightning at me. And when I was pinned down by it I wondered how come she can throw lightning like that(I just thought it in my head)and then she called out to me "It's all in your mind"..

And after she told me that I just knew what she meant and so I stood up and threw heaps of these little gold darts at her with both my hands, like gold needles which she somersaulted over and then she disappeared into thin air with a laugh.

So after that dream I knew dreams had more potential because I had knowingly done my first impossible action during one. But I wasnt lucid so much it was more like I just knew I could do anything with will power alone.

And then soon after I came across an add in the paper from a guy who was teaching 'lucid dreaming' which sounded just like what I was after. So I learned from him over an 8 week course I think it was. Which got me started around 1991/92.

If you've ever read the Wheel of Time by Robert Jordan (If you havn't, I HIGHLY recommend. My favorite book series of all time) he has something in it called the dream world.

In his series, the dream world is something that certain people who were able to learn how could enter whenever they wanted. When they entered, they were in a reflection of the real world. There were no people there but other dreamers, but everything was real. You couldn't make your own areas to explore, but you could go to any known corner of the world to look around.
Anything that happened to you in the dream happened to in real life as well.

Anyways, this was a really intriguing concept to me and I was surfing around and found out about lucid dreaming, than I found Dreamviews. And here I am :)

I saw some people on various websites (not forums) talking about it, so I decided to Google it.

I discovered the term 'Lucid Dreaming' in the book Dreamrider by Barry Jonsberg.

The concept I've known of for a long time now.

I heard about Lucid Dreams from Waking Life. After watching that movie with a very close and open minded friend of mine. Personally for me the realization of Lucid Dreams are very overwhelming because to me it is a completely separate reality in which i can escape and live in. It still has not sunk in i watched the movie last night and i am still mind boggled about it.

I don't know if escaping and living in the dream world is the right way to think about it. The dream world to me is an extension of the real world, where everything is possible. I don't look at it as a second life and I don't think you should. Not that that makes Lding less amazing. But also when you don't see it as a second life but an extension where you can also solve problems from your everyday life. It can enhance your everyday life so you don't even want to escape from it.

It was at least 5 years a go (maybe more) when I had a fase awakening and I realized I was asleep.
I was telling my mother about it and she was saying how you can have dreams where you are aware you are asleep and you can do things in them like change them for your benefit.
I then found out they were lucid dreams. I spent many years hoping each night I'd have one, and when I did have a lucid dream it was so amazing.
Only recently I found the forum. I wanted to find a lucid community for at least 2 years now, and failed my search twice. Finally DV popped up. Its great. Now I can LD when I want.

Already being intrested in dreams I was on Dreammoods a dream interprutation site and i was reading stuff and i stumbled upon Flying dreams and it said that they were associated with Lucid Dreams and i found another link on the site that said lucid dreams and i clicked on it. I read what the thing said and being pretty intrested in it i typed it up on youtube. I found some videos and watched them and then i went to bed. The next day i typed it again and found reecejoness' channel who you guys have probably seen. I became an LDer for awhile and then quit. I then became intrested again and typed up Lucid Dreaming Forums and found dreamviews. SO HERE I AM!

I found it out myself, but I thought I went crazy or something, lol. Then I asked my friends and they had the same experience but we never knew what it was, until now. :]

It's the same as depersonalization and derealization, you think your crazy but get a relief when you hear about it.

I could do it before I knew what it was. Since I was young actually... but it was hit and miss... and I never knew what caused it. When the matrix came out I started calling it sleep matrix... but after I got internet access and got used to using google I searched and found out all about it. So... I kinda discovered it on my own... but didn't know much about it till google.

I found out about lucid dreaming from the game "Dreamfall: The Longest Journey."

I had a few LDs years ago when I was about five or six. I heard the term "lucid dreaming" used in various places but I didn't really look into it. Then I saw a thing about it on the "Why do we dream?" episode of Horizon, which got me interested. I was like, "Wow, I want to do that!" A year or so later it occured to me I should do some Internet research...

A combination of Google and a romp through various Wikipedia pages.

I searched "how to control your dreams" on Google. I found this whole site dedicated to this thing called "lucid dreaming". I was excited :)

I had them but didn't know they had a name for most of my life.

I was reading about dreams on Howstuffworks.com and it had a link to this website.

I first heard of lucid dreaming sometime in the late 70's or early 80's. I don't remember what magazine it was now, but there was an ad for the original Novadreamer I think, and if I remember right it was a big full page ad with lots of info about LaBerge's then fledgeling studies. I also remember for those who couldn't afford something like a Novadreamer they sold lighted pens for writing in your DJ. The whole idea intrigued me powerfully, and I marked that page and kept telling myself one day I'd order a lighted pen and start my dream journal - but somehow I never did. I also dreamed (daydreamed) about one day saving up enough to get that Novadreamer (never did that either).

Shortly after that I started working up an idea for a comic book series I wanted to do called The Dreaming, about a lucid dreamer who inadvertently lets aliens into our world through his dreams and has to use powers of lucidity to hunt them down and save the earth before these advance scouts can bring in the equipment to open up portals and let in the actual invasion forces.

I didn't know much about lucidity or dreaming then... remember the internet wasn't even a gleam in Al Gore's eye yet... so I made a lot of it up, but I ended up with ideas pretty close to much of actual lucid techniques... I had my main character studying meditation and Eastern belief systems to master his state of mind so he can gain control over his dreaming mind etc.

Anyway, fast forward to a few months ago... very end of 2009 to be exact, I had long forgotten about all of it but a conversation I was having through email with a couple friends made me think about that long-buried comic book idea and I suddenly thought Damn! I have the internet now... I can google Lucid Dreaming!!!

... And here I am. Ironically, I'm now living The Dreaming.

My grandmother, actually, who is quite amazed that it does indeed exist, because she read it in a magazine and didn't believe it. :lol: I googled it and found this forum. :)
She is more suportive then my mother. My mother thinks SP is Demonic Possession, but the only problem my grandmother has with it is that she's a Worry Wort, so she thinks I might 'hurt myself'. I have no clue what she's on about... :?

One morning I woke up and remembered the dream from that night. The things that happened in it made no sense, and I had this amazing idea: what if you could realize that you were dreaming? Then couldn't you do anything you want?

So I got online, found out that what I realized was true, and that over one million people had realized this before me.

watched waking life, then net searched lucid dreaming and ended up buying exploring the world of lucid dreaming by stephen laberge.

I had seen a youtube video on what LDing was, and the video linked me to Dreamviews, where I learnt to actually do it. I have never looked back. Thanks, DV! =D

The concept of LD came to me when I was pretty young... like 9 or 10? I remember thinking about dreams... and asking myself if they were random or if I was actually controlling them. I came to the conclusion I couldn't ( I kept thinking of stuff I would do when I was dreaming... I could never get myself to do them, lol)

Then, years later, I was reading something, I forgot what, and the expression lucid dream appeared there. At first I thought it was another way to say "wet dream", but realized it didn't make any sense at all, and decided to google it. Needless to say, I became fascinated about it, since it's something I always wanted to do, but thought it wasn't possible.

I found out about lucid dreaming a couple of years back when I first found out about OBEs. I ended up finding out about OBEs after I decided to google telekinesis after watching the Xmen 3 movie and the rest is history :D

Well, a couple of years ago, I was at camp, and this one guy on the last day fell asleep. I then decided to say something to him to mess with his head. When I woke up, he dreamed about what I said (being at an airport,btw). Everyone thought it was funny.:lol: (:cheeky:) Later, I made him want Doritoes. :D I've figured that it was hypnosis, so I decided to look for it more to become a better hypnotist. And, from that, I found the Lucid Crossroads. Then, this great website, but I joined LD4all, then abandoned it for here, where I got my first lucids!:banana:

Saw "Exploring the World of Lucid Dreaming" on the shelf. Read the back, bought it, and then googled for a forums because I'm a bit of a forum hoe.

And here I am.

I first discovered the concept about 3 years ago. I encountered the word lucid, and didn't know what it meant (I still haven't encountered that word outside of dreaming topics, even though I read books all the time) so I googled it. I found lots of things about LDing. Around 6 months later, I decided I wanted to have a lucid dream, and since then I've been on and off, but never really dedicated enough to make any real progress (I also split my attention, half the time trying to OBE, the other half trying to LD. As you can guess, I got nowhere on either.). One year ago, I was trying to OBE, so I signed up tor DV to ask for advice in the beyond dreaming forum, but I still wasn't dedicated enough.
In the middle of February, I came back here for some more advice, using the same account I had from last year. Since then, I've been keeping a dream journal, and I had two near misses for LDs. (The first time, a few weeks ago, I thought about it in a dream, but didn't RC. Last night, I did RC, but was woken up before I could become truly lucid.)
I probably wouldn't have became as dedicated as I did in the last month and a half, except that this DV is a surprisingly friendly community, compared to most of the internet. I haven't seen anybody get made fun of for anything here. I shouldn't be surprised, though, considering that a lot of people would make fun of all of us just because of the topic. The only other forum that looks like it's as friendly as this forum (and also has a strange topic) is the INTJ forum.

I've had lucid dreams since I can remember. I could think about something and will it to happen in my dreams. I've always had great dream recall and people thought I was making up all the elaborate details of my dreams. I've kept a DJ since I was in gradeschool.

In highschool I watched Waking Life, and realized that's what I was doing. Then read Exploring the World of Lucid Dreaming by Stephen Laberge.

Since then my brother and I have both studied lucid dreaming (he more than I, I'm a slacker when it comes to studying, but I do practice) People think I'm wierd when I look forward to my dreams, and randomly tell people about them. meh, oh well, they're missing out

Well my first lucid dreams were when I was very young....maybe between 4-7. What was interesting about those early dreams was that they would all start the same. I would lie in bed for what felt like a long time...looking out this one window, then the next thing I knew I would have jumped to the window sill. There was always a moment of exhilaration here as I looked out at the dream world and then back at the bed where my real body was sleeping.

It wasn't until my teenage years that I heard of lucid dreaming, and realized what I had remembered had a name. When I was young I knew I was dreaming at the time and could do all kinds of wild stuff in my dreams, just didn't have a name for it just "dreaming".

I've always been interested in dreaming in general. One day in school I was bored, so I searched dreams on google. I came across several sites and one talked about being able to control dreams. I thought that would be super cool to learn how to do that. The site linked to here.. and now here I am.

I saw Avatar and my brother was like "man I wish i lived there. I should do lucid dreaming or something."
I then watched ReeceJones87's videos on youtube and read a wikipedia article - which led me to this site.

I was reading an article on Cracked.com
I believe the title was "5 Ways To Hack Your Brain Into Awesomeness", well, one of those ways was lucid dreaming :D!
I decided to do some research, and then came across DV.

Before Lucid Dreaming hit the market in the 60's I had asked myself a question "Can people practice right behavior in dreams." It took me three nights to enter state, from then on I explored, I played, and I learned. This was in the late 50's. Althought I was agnostic, and am still not religious-I do not expect to ever be either-I became, by definition, a prophet. Not a prophet sent, but I am still confused about why--and more confused as to why it would matter to anyone. It simply made me very afraid, and resentful. Much of the work is study outside of the state, a life dedicated to understanding. If, whatever it is wants to teach, it will teach, if it does not, it will not. All I ever wanted out of life was to get marrried, raise a family, and explore this reality with a companion. Well, so much for desires.

Sharing what one has learned, and been through can be quite dangerous--learning how to do that in a manner that is safe is actually a challenge--especially when one seems to be artless. And so, I have been leaning toward a formal presentation, even though it has been written "line upon line, precept upon precept." The real crunch is will I ever get it right.

Google "control my dreams." It honestly changed my life.

I have no idea how I first learned about lucid dreams, it just seems as if I've always known that it is possible to control ones dreams. I've always been interested in dreams, but until very recently I'd never had an LD. A month ago however I was visiting my family and my sister told me about a lucid dream she'd had where she'd turned into a wolf. I thought that sounded great, so I decided I wanted to start having LDs too. I googled it, and found this site.

my art teacher in high school mentioned it one day

then I went home and asked my sister what it was.
I thought lucid dreaming was just being kinda half awake and seeing really vivid images, but i never knew it was when you were all the way asleep and you could control your dreams

then after I graduated I started having all these nightmares that I was back in school, and all my classmates were always there, I really hated high school, and everyone in my high school so it was really hard for me to dream I was back there again. I was a bit desperate to do something about it so I wouldn't have those nightmares anymore, that's when I got the idea to learn how to lucid dream. so I could at least have some sort of say on what I dreamed of, or not.

I actually was attempting with little success to LD before I ever knew what it was. I had to use a technique where you tell yourself not to wet the bed out loud before you sleep to prevent bedwetting when I was a young child. And once out of random as a teenager I accidently became aware in a dream then I thought maybe I would be able to do it again so I used to try telling myself to realise I'm dreaming before going to bed.

I found out that LDing was actually a known and trainable thing recently on 4chan where somone linked me this site. :D

I now know the technique I was trying actually does work so I'm fairly proud of that hehe :shadewink:

I got interested in lucid dreaming when I read an article on another forum.

I was really into the Nightmare on Elm street series. One day while I was watching part three, I started to think to myself, "Wow that's weird, it's like they always know when they're dreaming". I started to wonder if it was possible. Actually, I kinda had a feeling it was, because I had one lucid dream as a boy and for years I tried to tell people about it but they never understood me. Anyways, I looked up "knowing you're dreaming". I found the definition on wikipedia, and I was amazed. I was originally on another forum but that place was whack, so I eventually found this site :).

I got told about it from a friend who found DV and now I'm here.

I really don't remember even though it was recent. I may have stumbled across it on the web and I always had these handful of dreams in my life I always remembered and it turns out one was a lucid dream when I was 8. I flew and I still remember how crazy it felt and I wanted to do it again.

I suffer from regular sleep paralysis. In search for advice I came across Lucid Dreaming and how I can use sleep paralysis to induce it.

One night, I randomly had a lucid dream.
Then I google'd it and found out you can do it intentionally (I found out about Dream Journals, WBTB etc )
But for some reason I never started to practice until around 1 month ago I decided to google it some more then I found this site and found out about DILDs/WILDs and other methods.
