Is it possible, when you're lucid, to save your current dream into, like a file in your brain? So that you could re-open it whenever you are lucid again?
I've thought of this, and would probably have to say no. This would require storing the entire dream to long-term memory instantly, which a lucky few people can accomplish, but is unlikely to work for the average individual. Besides, the massive amount of detail in each dream means a "seamless" save would be even less likely to happen. :P
I feel as though a "quick save" would be possible, saving jsut the basic details of the place. Like the general location of what objects and a few sights and scents, accompanying them with feelings couldl also increase the vivdness of the saves.
I've had dreams in which I intuitively 'know' that I can quicksave and load at any time. Just like a videogame. That basically meant I could teleport myself and other objects and characters all at once, to some previous state within the same dream scene. But later on it didn't work property. Certain things refused to reset -- certain characters decided to keep doing what they wanted.
I'd answer your question: yes and no. Break it down into the elementary parts. What is saving? It is remembering. Can you remember things in a dream scene? Of course. With 100% accuracy? Probably not.
What is loading? It is summoning a dream scene from memory, or teleporting yourself into that scene, depending of your perspective. Can you do this? Maybe you can summon some things (e.g. familiar real life environments that are deeply locked into your permanent memory) more reliably than others. Maybe it's something you'll have to work on. Unexpected and unintended inconsistencies will creep in. Dreams give you what they want, not necessarily what you want. Your brain is not a computer.
Basically yes. But don't expect everything to go exactly according to plan.
I didn't mean long term. All that would be needed is
-What events brought you to where you are now
-The location of the save
And that's about it. All you need to know is what you did before the save, and you need to know where you were when you saved. I think that would make a good dream exit and entering.
I think what my colleagues are trying to say that while it is difficult, it stills seems like a worthy endevour. Don't let the difficulty of an action drive you away from trying to do it. The things that are worthwhile in life are rarely easy. I myself have been trying to go back to certain places in dreams that I find worthwhile.
The most important detail in a journey like this is focus, though. And remember, the more detailed you remember your dreams, the easier it will be. You might not get all the details correct when you revisit your dream, but it will certainly help the process of remembering the general dream itself.
My friend often talked of this (now that you clarified) he said he had a seperate "life" during his dreams which he would continue each night, and I assume he would do so by this method of recalling what events took place to cause him to reach where he was now.
Although remembering half a lifetime in a dream might be difficult considering he's been doing this for years ^^'
well its impossible to make a dream 100% accurate to how it was before. but you can make it close. you would just have to have incredible in your recall and you would have to write it down in immense detail. this way you really get to "know" the dream. its the same way you can summon a friend you know. your brain and yourself actually know the person and its extremely easy with practice.
thats my opinion anywho
Hello!, now my answer is gonna sound really scientific. ok so your body has 2 types of actions voluntary and involuntary. voluntary would be like running, talking, playing basketball lol etc. Now involuntary is like your heart beat, falling asleep, dreaming. now your memory lies in involuntary, and maybe i might be wrong as im not very experienced with lds. but from a scientific standpoint, no you cannot you do not control your memory or what you remember even though our brains are the most powerful supercomputer known to man they do not work like a "computer" we dont have files in our brain just our memory
as i said again please POLITELY correct me if i am wrong but i really have to say no on this one even though it would be pretty cool
-will-
okay so i agree with you to some point. but my beef is this.
the storing of memories and what you chose to remember may be involuntary, but the possibility of bringing those memories back is definitely doable and done everyday of my life and probably yours as well :) I go back to past memories all the time, so this would seem possible to do in a lucid dream if you had good enough control.. im going to try this next time im lucid if i can remember.
Is this a joke?
Its called your memory. If you have a shit memory, too bad. :P
well it would be hard to do i dont really believe you could "load" and "save" adream thats not just how a brain works
Close, but not quite...to some degree, you do control your memory. You can put effort into remembering something, such as committing a new language to memory, or the details of a dream scene. You do not, however, have total, binding control over your memory, so a "quick save" would be very unlikely to happen.
I have a pretty damn good memory.
You're correct, the brain does not typically work like that. Some people have rare conditions that allow them to perform tasks similar to opening and saving documents, but these are exceptionally rare cases, and even then these people are limited to a degree.
o hey thanks for not being a total jerk about it
Memory does not unfailingly obey conscious commands, of course. But one can deliberately commit certain things to memory with focus, and package information in ways to make it more memorable with techniques.
Seriously though, if this was possible don't you think everyone would use it? To remember passwords, important dates, maths equations, road names? Furthermore, if it was possible, there wouldn't be so many discussions about recall issues.
Just because this is a forum dedicated to dreams doesn't mean they'll be magical answers to everything.
Just putting that out there.
