      Avatar and the Dream Plane

When I first saw the preview for Avatar, I said, "OH MY GOD! THIS IS WHAT MY DREAMS LOOK LIKE." Then I knew the whole movie is based on dreams.

      Spoiler for Movie Spoiler:

I thought about it differently... I think it parallels wonderfully with Eastern Mysticism, which says that our waking 5 senses is not truly reality, only a manifestation of it. This is how I saw it:

The Avatar is like our physical Body. Jake mentions in the movie that his days start to blend together when he's not his Avatar, much like our dreams seem to be a blending of several different scenes. When the Avatar sleeps, Jake becomes his real self, he re-enters Reality.

Eastern Mysticism and Dream Yoga say that when our Bodies sleep, we become our real selves. The Avatar, or our Physical Body and its Ego, is just a shell, a manifestation of our Selves, but not our true Self. What is beyond our five senses, the Great Sense, the Cosmic Eye, is reality. That is what Jake Sully represents... Entering reality when the Avatar sleeps.

That is suprising. While in the body of the avatar, one of our own creation i.e. dream body, as it is maleable, I would think be the dream state & our tru self: a sense of unity that everything is alive or at least responsive. Also the life lived of the aboriginal people is one that has heart, a love that transends race or the dream of form & that one easily remembers the bliss of being. Anyway there are no wrong views. I see you Jake Sully/Silence Dogood. =0)

Yes there are definitely many parallels to Lucid Dreaming in that movie, as well as many other spiritual ideas, such as Gaian Consciousness, and how they said they talked about the universe as one great big "flow of energy," and how all energy is borrowed, and one day you have to give it back.

      What is Gaian Consciousness?

I loved the movie! It was one big tasty sensual treat for the imagination ....and I guess life for that matter.

By the way MrFantasy I love your signature? Did you get that off a TOOL album or who is that quoting?

She happens to be my DG!

The only flaw with that is, of course it IS fictional, but everything in that movie is real (in the movie, not reality of course.)

The REM is just their nervous link. Breathing and eyes still the same. Like SP.

True but isnt all, what we call, non-reality experienced in, what we call, reality?? Kinda wierd when we look at it like that isn't it? I am merely playing the devil's advocate because its fun & mind altering.

So the chick is named Neyitri huh?

The next day I had a dream about talking to a attractive avatar who had a little female toddler avatar. I didnt have sex with mommie avatar but it was a lot of fun talking to her (mommie avatar)

Gaian Mind is an idea that our planet Earth is not, as many people think, a lifeless rock that just coincidentally happens to be brimming with all sorts of beautiful, exotic, intelligent organisms seen nowhere else in the universe, but is in fact itself an intelligent, self regulating organism, of which all nature and life as we know it is a microcosmic expression. Humans are the most evolved expression of Gaia (that we know of), and through humans Gaia is experiencing some kind of cancer-like disease that is causing her to harm herself, much in the same way a human diagnosed with cancer has certain mutant cells that attack the rest of their healthy cells.

Many people worry that humans are in danger of destroying Mother Earth, but I personally believe that if the experiment called the human race actually becomes that damaging, Gaia will not hesitate to do away with us, as it has with almost every other species that has ever walked the Earth. The human race is a mere 100,000 years old at most, Gaia is 4 billion.

But yeah, my signature is from a Tool song called Third Eye, that was actually quoted from a comedian named Bill Hicks.

What a cool discussion. I like what everyone has shared. Have you heard of the Gaia Theory?

Who are you addressing Waking Nomad?

Maybe I am just a little wierd but I always thought that (gaia mind/theory) is what shamanism is but my view on shamanism doesn't agree with some society based definitions either. Either way I love the gaia mind theory!

I also think we could expand the idea universally and call it Universal Mind Theory. That way we could have so much more tasty little things to play in & with he he he >;oP
