Lucid Dream Mask. Is it worth it?

Ok I know many people are into Lucid Dreaming. I've read about an Article about the Lucid Dreaming Mask. They say if you put it on before bed, It will detect the REM when you sleep. The Lucid Dreaming Mask has two lights in it. Once you dream. You will notice the lights flashing in your dream while your in REM sleep. I may not know what I'm talking about but that's what I remember from the article. It was also on CNN news awhile back. I was wondering if the Lucid Dreaming Mask was worth getting. Has anyone bought it and tried it for your self? If so what have you experienced when you had it on? When you recognized the lights from the mask in the dream. It will let you know you are dreaming and you can instantly become Lucid. So I don't know if its a fake, scam, or what.

I've never heard of anything like that before, but I'm not sure it would work for me anyway. Lighting isn't one of the strong clues for me in dreaming, I can even convince myself that the light has changed when I flip light switches. For other people, though, it might work. Wouldn't it be difficult to fall asleep in it?

I read something about it too
Some people tend to interpret the lights as for example a police car with siren etc.
Here's a shop which sells them, however I'm sure there are cheaper ones

OK this sounds pretty cool now. But if you live alone, couldn't you just make something like this that doesn't go on your face? Maybe wire some lights to a timer that would flash in the middle of REM?

Yeah, that would be the DIY version, this mask actually detects REM-sleep

That'd be cool if someone in the dreamviews community made something similar to this. Make a Lucid Dream type mask that will actually get you into lucid dream when ever you want. I don't know if this is possible or not. But it sounds like a good idea. Just a thought.

A cheap solution would be (note the hypothetical "would", I haven't tried this) to view a film on your computer (if you have a computer in your room). The film would be mostly black and silent, with flashes and sounds such as "do a reality check now" every 90 minutes or so.
Of course, that would be a one-way device, since it couldn't interpret your rem, but if it coincides with rem sleep it may work.
I'll give it a try as soon as I manage to transfer my film editing software onto this computer.

Seems like a cheap solution. Just get the monitor near your bed, use your film-editing software to make a film that is black until you hit general REM times, then flashes.

Or someone might be able to make a program where you can get your computer to produce flashes after a certain (set) time

OK...I've had a year's expereince with using DIY light cues and to expect it to work as a cue.....quite slim chance to make you lucid. First of all to use a light that will go off during REM you will need a REM detector...hard to comeby even for me not an expert. So what I did was to use a resettable timer that will reset with a push switch held in the hand/fingers. The light I used is a spotlight connected to a dimmer and aimed at the face some distance from the bed. Does it work....it did hit REM a few times but it din't make me lucid. It made me remember stuff that are from waking life pertaining to this light I used. It's due to the fact that the light is an external source and in order for the mind to interact or respond to the light cue it has to be in a quite awake state in the dream. So what I can conclude based on using light cues DIY is that either you see it or you don't or it wakes you up and you just fall back into normal sleep. When you do see the light, the mind is too drowsy to link it with reality checks and lucid dreaming, it will either pass it off as part of the dream or....like for my case try to interact with it as though in waking time which is to reset the timer only thing it can't because it's a dream state action.

I've heard of a couple different devises like that. It seems like many people did not get the desired results while wearing it.
If it worked well I imagine it would be much more popular.

I have the REM-Dreamer. I will say that it does work, there is a downside and that is you need very good recall or you will find it of no use. 4+ dreams a night i would say.

I have stopped useing it at the moment since my recall is awefull anyway

Sometimes I can remember my dreams fully, Sometimes I can't. And sometimes I can remember the whole detail. Usually when the day is over I usually forget what I dreamed about last night.

I find the recall is really important because it makes you a little more aware of the light cue.
