New Approach?

This is probably going to be completely wrong, because I don't fully understand the human mind (well, at least not as much as some of you...) so I guess you can just stop here if you want...

But could the approach of RCing, where you do an RC whenever you see something unusual occur, be wrong? I mean I'm sure that it's helped people get lucid dreams, but what about this...

If something weird happens in a normal dream, don't you think it's normal? What would happen, if instead of doing an RC whenever you see something weird happen... You do an RC when something normal happens. Would your brain register that so when something weird happens in a dream and you think it's normal, you'd do an RC in the dream...

I know I worded that complete wrong and weird but whatever... Also, this is only a thought, probably completely wrong... So you can just tell me if I'm dead wrong...

That's actually a really good idea. However, it would be terribly hard work to successfully implement. You'd be RCing all day long, at nearly every moment throughout the day. At that point, it's better to just go the awareness route.

Well, how many "normal" dreams do you have? 9/10 of my dreams have something out of the ordinary in it, so RCing, for me, IRL when something out of the ordinary happens helps me notice weird things in my dream, and then I become lucid.

You think these weird things in your dreams are normal because you are not aware throughout the day. Practicing RC's helps raise your awareness and helps point out these oddities in your dreams, triggering you to become lucid.

RCing when something normal happens may help increase your awareness throughout the day but I would think that by relying on that you would just be waiting for a random RC to make you lucid, and not having it triggered by being aware and realizing something is not right.

Thank you, and I didn't expect people to RC whenever something normal happens because of that exact reason... But even if you did it 3 out of ten times, I'd think it'd be plenty..

And to The Silver Bullet: But (for me atleast, I can't speak for many people I'd think...) it's hard to see the difference between unusual things and normal things in dreams... So this may work for me, as well as some other people.. But the topic of Lucid Dreaming varies from person to person, so I guess whatever floats your boat is fine :D.

i've read places that if you RC too much your mind no longer gets that feeling of alertness about that RC
the very fact that it IS unusual is what makes it good.
personally, i tend to go lucid on the unusual or things that i have been really focusing on ... but the unusual is far more successful

Well, if you've only practiced it on unusual events that occur than it will obviously be far more successful for unusual :P...

But you didn't state if you've practice when normal events occur, so I guess I really can't say anything...

Yes, I believe, at the very least, it's worth testing out before everyone dismisses it as a preposterous idea. The reasoning behind it is actually fairly sound.

True, true, different people learn different ways. Try this out if you want, if it works for you then keep practicing till perfection :D.

It just seems easier for me to spot out the unusual than the usual. I would suggest just practicing being aware throughout the day. Remember to actually be aware while doing the RC so it doesn't fail while your dreaming, like I've did three times this past week.

That sucks XD (the missing three lucid dreams thing).

But yeah, I'm just wondering... does it really matter if you have an RC done at a specific time? Is it enough just to be aware and understanding as you're doing the RC?

Bro, most of us already do this. We pick certain times to do it.
Like, at one time, whenever I would think about, say, or hear the word "aware" I would RC.

Would be incredibly hard to condition yourself to RC for everything "normal". How do you define normal anyways?

I consider walking past a tree and not having it talk to me normal. So now I have to RC every time I pass a tree? That might get a little annoying.



I'm thinking that I'm going to condition myself that, whenever I look at my watch to see the time, I'll check the time a 2nd time after that, and make sure I'm paying attention both times.

I figure that this will give me alot of RCs that only have to be triggered by me wondering what time it is, which I do often enough. ^^

I guess you're right, we all have different times we've kind of set when we RC...
